If James Bond had to pay for repairs himself, he'd be driving a Japanese car 100%. Thank God for Q and M who see to all of his needs. However, for those people who are not James Bond it might not be a bad idea to do your own research on the reliability of certain cars. Those lucky enough with a 401k that exceeds 8 figures, no problem-o. You guys got this! You can search around for average costs to replace such common items as a water pump, wheel bearing and window regulator and you might find numbers like $700, $400 and $800 as compared with those same items which almost never need replacing on certain other cars. IMHO, if money is no object, buy the car you want or dream about. Keep in mind you don't get James' "Special 007" License, the PPK or the amazing ability to come up with clever remarks at just the right moment. These are pretty cars, no doubt. But, like with everything else in life...do your homework.
I own a 2009 DB9, my warning to all, be prepared for substantial maintenance costs. Apart from that great car to drive. It’s not a Honda or toyota, there finicky so they require ongoing tweaks. Also as a Canadian who stores in winters in BC make sure you start every 3 weeks DONT let your seals and system dry out you will get fluid leaks. I have the 6.0 liter v12 oil change costs are damn costly , you have been warned
Winston Wang I drive it 6 months a year so about 700 insurance here pleasure only, fuel is pricey because it’s premium only and a v12 is thirsty so probably 1800.-2000 for the 6 months For fuel with very few lengthy trips. Maintenance has been reasonable it takes a lot of synthetic oil so minimum 400.00 for oil change filter etc, if nothing is broken so far I’ve been lucky. This year I need new wheels so it’s about 700 a piece for rears and 300-400 for the fronts. It’s an expensive play thing but I love it.
Marty K yeah. I see if nothing is broken. It's just not more expensive than a 911. However, It seems like older aston just need a lot of things to fix lol
Winston Wang I find things like brakes and a few electrical things like the electric seats tend to need more fixes than let’s say a Honda or vW however I accept that from a handmade car
Hi there. I’m planning on getting an 07 Ashton Martin vangate and do you have any advice for me? What am I looking at for annual costs for everything. Can you please break it down for me? Thank you sir
The hundred and whatever point inspection is a joke! Have turned back two cars when I had them inspected by another independent expert for clear issues the original dealership should have caught. One example, worn rear bushings at a cost of over 3k to repair, both sides were cracked and clearly visible to the eye, (independent mechanic sent me pics). If Aston Martin as decided to settle in your city, there is an independent expert close by also, take it to them for the Pre Purchase Inspection (PPI).....Justmy2cents
Hey - so did the Aston Martin technician fail to identify problems which the independent technician DID identify? Very interesting to know as a prospective buyer
Correct! I’m expecting my DB9 next week and had a PPI done by an Aston independent specialist! Thankfully he only found a couple of small issues but the selling dealer paid to rectify them, saving me a few hundred pounds further down the line!🤷🏻 Invaluable!👍
I’ve owned my Aston Martin v8 vantage for four years it’s never missed a beat very reliable always put a smile on my face James Bond is right! no other car comes near to an Aston Martin definitely recomend purchasing one!
Great video, just bought the Vantage Roadster and im having the dealership get me the sapphire key...they thought i wasn't going to notice i only got the Valet key...who in the WORLD would actually think an Aston Martin only comes with a cheap plastic KEY!? haha anyways keep up the vids :)
Very natural in front of the camera and great job presenting the car and brand! A lot of great tips to consider when looking to purchase this sports car!
Forget the newer Aston Martins , the best ones were built in the 60s and 70s , no electronics , no emissions gubbins , you can easily service them yourself. I have had my old V8 since the 70s , been all over Europe and the Middle East in it. Apart from it chucking all the belts off in France and one end of the fuel pump packing up in Syria , it has been reliable. What do you do if the fuel injection system or the ECU pack up in the middle of nowhere , with the four twin choke Webbers , you can strip them down at the side of the road and be on your way.
awesome channel! I remember your dealerships grand opening. Went for a walk with my dog and got to see the president of Lamborghini make a speech and got to see a fully carbon fiber Centenario
Thank you Thank you for the tips I’m looking and have been on a quest for some time for a car and this information is very important. Your video are great keep up the good work. Next you could talk about the warranty and yearly maintains for the light use. Keep them coming
As a long term owner I will tell you...........they are bulletproof. There is no other supercar which has a more reliable engine. Anything negative you see written about them is probably written by Lamborghini, Maserati, Ferrari, Porsche, etc.
Appreciate an car dealer wants to qualify interested parties a bit, but I would not sign any agreement to purchase type document prior to taking a car for a test drive. It's a competitive world out there and if you are truly serious, some understanding should be shown to the buyer.
If I recall correctly, he said it was an agreement subject-to. You're not hooked into it if you're not happy with the drive. It's an important difference but one commonly misunderstood or overlooked. They don't want people coming in talking out of their rears and only looking for a joyride. I'd suspect that this won't even be mentioned if you're a regular customer with a good history with the dealership.
Plug for the Aston Martin dealer network. If they are like any other dealer I wouldn't trust the paper the service history was printed or written on. Just a tick box exercise. I've had cars and bikes before with claimed "Full Main Dealer History" from new and yet when I have done a service the air filters are black with encrusted dirt and debris, the coolant is like black coffee and the engine and gearbox oils are like chocolate.
It's worse. The main dealer service scams happen everywhere but Astons come from the factory with paint chips, loose nuts and bolts, misaligned doors etc. A friend who works for a dealer in Cambridgeshire, England says that it beggars belief what can slip through the QC!
Enjoyed this video... it gives Aston Martin a kind of Confidence... Thank you... Looking Forward to Challenge the salesman in Bordeaux France. Can we get a real checklist some how! like a documents or flyers...( PDF or Excel form )
This video was awesome and very helpfully. Just one question, did you hear from aston martin owner some motor problem about the 2009 DBS ? Or it is really a reliable motor ? Thanks.
Hi Steve Lee , Australia How are you , well I hope . Watched you video and some good information , I am looking at a 2005 Aston Martin V12 Convertible . I went onto Google and typed in 205 Aston Martin DB9 and clicked onto Engine Detonation , and the third one down a guy in a red top OIL STARVATION 21.25 MIN . a ENGINE WITH 9.500 MILES with piston 6 and 12 completely in bits . I would be happy to hear your view on this Regards Steven Lee .
I am a very experienced auto body technician. I found one with all cosmetic damage. 2014 v8 vantage 12k miles they want 28k and comes with multiple parts I'll need. Is it something I could fix then have inspected and sell or is it nearly impossible to sell previously damaged ones?
When i bought my 2014 Shelby gt500 last year it had 6600 miles. It was a one owner car. I actually know the person. You do more damage by letting a car sit around and be driven. Especially if the car was built to be driven hard things get fouled up. Like the carbs or throttle body parts rust if you don't have a climax controlled garage like i have to prevent rust and rubber drying up. I pulled my Shelby apart before going for a hard ride. I found grease in the strut boots and grease on the abs sensors. The owner did it to prevent rusting since he never drove it. I had to pull everything apart and clean the abs system. I did a full service all fluids & flushed the brake lines. Sway bar bushings were frozen on the bar so it wasn't working properly. I shocks & springs rubber were dry rotted. It took my a week to get the vehicle back to new standards. I also sanded down the spindles and used rust kill & ceramic painted all components.
I’ve been told 2009 V8 Vantages use many Ford parts. Is that really the case? Wouldn’t an Aston Martin dealership check for any “alignment issues” in its 150 point check before letting a potential customer test drive it?
Silly question but do the mirrors fold with the push of a button or are they manual. Reason I have a small garage and they need to fold to get the car in.
Regarding what are used cars, since presumably there are no brand new ones left, at least in Canada: the 2017 Vantage S V12 manual: I understand that 24 were brought in. Would it be possible to find out how many had B & O sound system?
I am thinking of purchasing my first exotics car the 2008 v8 vantage is at the top of my list along with the 911 and sl amg63 what would give the Aston the edge over the others
Hi Alek. Is there anything to consider when buying a certified pre-owned Aston. Would appreciate your feedback or thoughts.

Great video. I'm torn between Virage, which is best looking model by far, and DBS that I'd like to get in manual. One question about the clutch: What is the usual replacement interval? Both automatic and manual.
Good for you... I imported a DB9 (2009 with 27K) from Germany about 7 years ago and drove it for about three years. In the meantime I also got hold of a very rare DBS Carbon Black edition (2012). As I preferred the DBS, I finally sold the DB9. I loved the DB9 but, the DBS is just a cooler car and technically better.
If your dead set on a DBS watch prices their 20-30 over a DB9 and try to get a manual there rare and hold value better. I own a 2009 DB9 and did 6k mods to bring it to 510hp and looks better. If you decide to get the DB9 instead send me a reply and i'll tell you what to look for ED
@@amard12007 Best advice is to do as much research as possible, check out all options like I read there's a carbon package. And look everywhere at prices and best area to buy. This is very important a car from a dry climate like California/ Arizona is better than cars out East[ rust]. Try and see who owned it are they elderly or rich, did they keep up with maintenance or was it ratbagged. And if it's to good to be true deal it most likely is. A car like an Aston Martin can be your greatest joy or your worst nightmare. Be as picky on your car as you would finding a mate. Good hunting
I stopped listening 7:00 min when I hear the arrogant BS from a car salesmen telling you that you need to commit before test drive, I just walk away. They need to remember without my money they have no business… and I will tell you what it’s worth to me after I have evaluated it , which may even be higher than originally discussed because I am now emotively connected. I won’t comment on the rest of this piece it’s a waste of my breath…. I have seen this in Porsche sales rooms I just walk out and buy elsewhere and would be my recommendation to anyone, service trained tech don’t always fix everything they see… they fix some, then take a second slice at your wallet when you come back again…..
I'm not nearly as rich enough to buy one from even 5 years ago...so is it a good idea to buy a 2006 db9 for around 30k$ with around 70k miles? I'm an engineering student and know cars well enough to fix most issues myself...any advice?
Even if you can do the repairs, how much are the parts, and where do you get them? With these cars, you need to do authorized repairs and service or it kills your value.
I'm looking into buying a used DB9 2012 and i can get a 3 year or 36,000 miles bumper to bumper warranty for $4,800 so yo think it's worth it? it covers everything apart from tires, brakes, oil change and filters. Thoughts? I'll try driving it 10k miles per year realistically.
My DB9 misfired on two occasions after it had been garaged for a while. Thank you so much for mentioning that it is not a problem. My local Aston dealership, who I had the car recovered to when it first happened, knew nothing about why it happened. You set my mind at rest. You said that there were a few driving techniques to be used to make sure that excessive carbonisation of the engine doesn’t occur. Do you have a video to explain those techniques please.
Chris West Yeh. Floor it mate. Long Term Memory, (LTM), effects the fuel trim which is adaptive to your driving style. Taking it easy equals more carbon. Very basically. Not sure how the filth will view that as an excuse for going everywhere sideways.

Carfax reports are NOT always accurate at all. Carfax reports ONLY include the information that dealerships, 3rd party independent shops, emission test facilities, and motor vehicle departments load into the Carfax system. People can choose to hide issues by having not insurance pay for damages, asking repair shops not to load data in carfax, or conversely asking their friendly insurance agent to increase the damage so that they can get out of the car. But to say Carfax reports are accurate, is in invite disappointment. Ask me how I know 1st hand! And Carfax does NOT take any responsibility of errors, nor will not make any effort to remedy the issue, or correct information on a vehicles report. Again, ask me how I know 1st hand... Carfax should be used as a guide, be but relied upon for being "the source of a vehicle's historical information".
Good Morning Alek, Can I have your advice about my future choice ? Indeed, I have the future intention to buy an used Aston-Martin V8 4.7 with mecanic gear box. Thank you for your answer and your professional advice. Sorry for my poor English … Friendly from France.
How much are the brake pads and roaders on a 2014 vantage?, And if the sapphire on the key fob has a crack do you replace the sapphire piece and how much does it cost ?
belt is too short. Also, Porsche is much better, reliable, holds value better, faster and feels more premium. I had a db9 and it broke down almost once a month. 911 didn't break once since the day I bought it. Here's an opinion from a guy that doesn't just sell the dream but that had them :)... and seriously... your belt man.....
Had a 2016 911 Targa 4S, I bought in 2017, traded it in for a 2015 Vanquish Volante. Not comparable, a $350k car V a $150k car. 400HP v 575HP.. Mine is holding its value. Much more head turning than a 911 see them all the time!
2 days ago,I tried to buy a 2006 DB9 Volante. It had 169k miles on it.Had only the valet key,the top, radio, did not work and did not have service records. The guy wanted $22k for it.I offered him $10k and he got mad.He only had the car for 30 days so I figured him for a car flipper. Was I out of line w/my offer?
Good advice. I bought a Vantage from an Aston dealer. Didn't think much of their inspection process. An 18k mile Vantage needed £5k of warranty work and £3k of wear and tear work within the first 3k miles I had it. I avoided the main dealers after that. Great car, did another 30k miles in it.
Never have anything to do with main dealers of high end sports cars like Aston they'll skin you alive overcharge for everything and it won't be any better than a well respected independent garage ,avoid main stealers wherever possible.
You hate to see the best autos for sale listed by search engines to take you to pvt parties far from an authorized dealer. who knows whats really been done not listed on the vehicle w this deanship the efforts great for inspections.
« The Aston Martin could have been in a $20000 accident and we wouldn’t touch it »... Surely just a broken indicator lens can’t be that be that big of a deal 🤷♀️

Even if you can do the repairs, how much are the parts, and where do you get them? With these cars, you need to do authorized repairs and service or it kills your value.
I'm looking into buying a used DB9 2012 and i can get a 3 year or 36,000 miles bumper to bumper warranty for $4,800
so yo think it's worth it? it covers everything apart from tires, brakes, oil change and filters. Thoughts? I'll try driving it 10k miles per year realistically.
Steve Clark what warranty company? Is it US based?
@@brendancollins6097Hi Brendan, the lock in won't help but good to know that a good burn out is medicinal for her (is that chauvinistic? - not meant to be.
Thanks for the note
A good 2013 DB9 with under 15k miles and under 62k would be of interest. Many are over priced at the moment.
Commit to buy prior to a test drive?
Yup, commonplace in exotic car sales
Good Morning Alek,
Can I have your advice about my future choice ?
Indeed, I have the future intention to buy an used Aston-Martin V8 4.7 with mecanic gear box.
Thank you for your answer and your professional advice. Sorry for my poor English …
Friendly from France.
Jacques BRUNO hey Bruno. Love the 4.7 much better then the old 4.3. Try and get a Vantage S if possible and if you can find a manual buy it!
Thank you very much Alek for your quick answer.
I think it will be difficult for me to find a manual gear box in a AM 4.7 … I'm hopeful !!
How much are the brake pads and roaders on a 2014 vantage?, And if the sapphire on the key fob has a crack do you replace the sapphire piece and how much does it cost ?
$10k plus for brakes and rotors...$2k for a sapphire key replacement.
could I have the Royal Doulton Bulldog Union Jack?
belt is too short.
Damn, I thought my Mercedes key was expensive to replace at $350 USD. An Aston Martin replacement is $2,000 CAD ($1,524 USD). Holey Moley!
You hate to see the best autos for sale listed by search engines to take you to pvt parties far from an authorized dealer. who knows whats really been done not listed on the vehicle w this deanship the efforts great for inspections.
Now i just have to make the money hehe
what the cost of a service
Talk about shifty eyes...what is he looking at to his left?
Only thing you need to know is that you are constantly going to be harrassed by women wanting to go for a drive.
One question, when do I get my free one
Who is this guy looking at? His eyes wonder around like he is looking at a mob of people. Lolz
Well the video does have 64k views
He is driving though!
That one staff that jus walked in 😍🥰 *plays cool*
2012 vantage 4.7 still got those clutch issues?
all sportshift Vantages can run into clutch isues, try and get a clutch wear test done by a dealer before buying
I know that BullDog (paper weight decor).
Skyfall!
What's the point of having a deal in place, only to find out that you don't like the car at the test drive? 🤦♂️
Thats some deal, Im not buying or intending to buy a car if I havnt driven it:)
« The Aston Martin could have been in a $20000 accident and we wouldn’t touch it »...
Surely just a broken indicator lens can’t be that be that big of a deal 🤷♀️
Headlamp+bumper+grille = ~ 40,000 CDN. (2016 V8 Vantage GT) .
I'm watching because I might buy the car even though i can't afford 🤣
It's Aston Martin,not Martun.🥴🥴
$2,000 for a fricking key made of glass? Ouch.
My denali key is 800. My maserati key is 400.
