Just a half-baked theory: But I'm thinking the transgender woman that was found shoved under the bed was actually a disguised Brian, and everyone just assumed that it was a trick gone wrong. Remember his mother's "aha" moment when the hotel clerk, Lester, has to protect the prostitute from her john, and warns her that she will end up "shoved in a suitcase" if she isn't careful? Also, notice that the suitcase already had a wig, a sequined dress, and other feminine items inside. It was also stressed that no one cared enough to look for Brian once he was missing, meaning that even once they recovered the body, it would still go unclaimed. I think that is also why Apollo's mother's name appeared multiple times in the ledger. There was obviously the visit where she intends to end her life, and then there is the visit where she returns with Brian's body already in the suitcase and leaves it under the motel room bed.

This episode completely lost me or either it makes my brain hurt. I think it was put together eloquently but I constantly found myself lost trying to tie every little thing to the other episodes. But this is what I could gather: Brian was hella abusive, Is Brian really Apollo’s father? (I dont think so - Apollo is 100% black not bi-racial, now Emma on the other side is for sure bi-racial). So did Lillian get pregnant by her boss maybe before she and Brian got together, and thats the mistake? Does Brian THINK that Apollo is his or realizes that hes not and tries to drown him? Was Apollo really killed by Brian and Lillian made a deal w/ another world to exchange Apollo for a Changeling and indeed Apollo is a changeling?? Really Lost - but I love your review
how do you know Apollo is a hundred percent black? You can't know that, because some so-called bi-racial do not present as mixed or what you think mixed is. I look like Trevor Noah, but I'm not bi-racial, so what does that mean. I've seen biracials that look so called blacker than me, Jordan peele for instance, looks blacker than me and he is biracial. Most Americans, those of us form the slave trade are not 100 percent black at all, non of us even people that look really dark. You don't know who is a hundred percent anything unless you do a dna test, and i have so I know my make up, do you? Hell henry louis gates is bi racial with two so called black parents m, he has 47 percent European dna, you don't know who is a hundred percent anything by looking at them.

Does anyone else think the transgender person found in a sparkly dress might actually be Brian West. In the scene where Lillian was talking to the “devil” the narrator says the answer was in front of her the whole time and she went directly to the suitcase with the sparkly dress…
I like that this show takes big narrative gambles, but sometimes those gambles sure do make it a difficult watch. I loved episodes 4 and 5 most so far (and actually really loved episode 6, too) but this one was hard to decipher, and it’s hard to enjoy an episode that’s that cryptic. It felt like I was watching a latter-career Charlie Kaufman story, like Synecdoche NY, or I’m Thinking of Ending Things. Here’s hoping the finale returns to some of the more straightforward narrative style of past episodes.
I love 4 and 5 too .episode 6 focusing on Emma kind of sucked to me as well. Cuz it didn't really answer much for me but at least it did way more than this last episode..
Really sucks though that we only have one episode left and they had so much too cap up to the mysteries. I hope to God that this is a one-season series and all of the answers come in this next episode because if they slap us all in the face and leave us when a cliffhanger and we have to wait a year do anything else I'm going to be so disappointed in an Apple TV Plus
I noticed a few other things. When Lily originally signed her name in the hotel ledger, it wasn’t her real name. It didn’t say Lily Ann West. (Correct me if I’m wrong). It kinda looked like Cily Ann Lester. I believe the third male Lily killed is the TG with the donut in the gold dress that apparently didn’t have a name when found. Maybe Lily killed her and stole her identity before meeting Brian???? . Also, Anyone notice the flashback of lily and Brian having a picnic was on the exact island that Cal and the other women are currently on?? Brian even mentioned how they used to sneak the crazy patients to the Island using a secret route (same route Emma and Kim used when she flipped Emma off the boat? Or maybe the underground people that Emma met in the last episode?) Don’t think it’s an coincidence. Not to mention, Kim being shown in this episode having shown the same actions emma and their apparent mother had?? Mmmm Kim is like 13 years older than Emma. Maybe Kim is really Emma’s mom, not sister
Because of your comment, I returned to that ep and, at .25x speed, watched her write that name. It's hard to conclude certainly, but honestly, it just looks like a rounded L. However, revisiting that scene highlighted a detail I find curious and important: *_"Centuries_*_ of names in that book."_ 📖 The Elk Hotel was *only in existence for 100 years.*
@@mathieubenoitmarcellussuch a profound interpretation, I think we filter with a victim mindset and this perspective gives a accountability mindset. So interesting
@@mathieubenoitmarcellus I don’t think Lillian is the monster and Brian was not a good man. (Good men don’t try to kill children) He was verbally abusive, we can see that during the picnic scene where he constantly reminds her she was a nobody with no family and if she went missing no one would know or care. Or how he told her if he couldn’t have her no one could. Additionally when he tried to kill Apollo him and Lillian were already broken up so there was no reason for him to even be at the house.
the affair bit is a major left turn from the novel and i havent fully digested if i liked it or not. otherwise, this episode (imo) was masterclass storytelling. Lilian's perspective. My goodness. Adina Porter did a phenomenal job in this episode as Lillian. Giver Ms. Porter her flowers!
I really felt intrigued by-not turned off by-this episode. It was so fascinating, and I’ve watched it three times. But my one complaint is that while the poetry of it feels powerful, the narrative storytelling feels like it bends imperfectly in too many directions. So I’m surprised by your calling it “masterful storytelling.” You’re the first comment I read to not express some frustration with how the story is being told. Do you think that reading the book and knowing where it’s going was helpful in your celebrating the storyline? Or do you feel like it mimics that part of the book well, and we’ll find our resolve as we continue reading (watching)?
Another point: they still haven’t addressed (at all) what the third wish was, exactly, but I’m guessing it’s the quest to become a wise woman herself? Which means seeing what others don’t, including the identity of the baby. Part of Brian’s attacks on Lily suggest if she steps out of line he could have her committed, and Apollo triggered Emma by suggesting she take “one of those pills” she has under wraps. So it seems like they’re going the direction of implying women are crazy (and taking their children away too soon) leads to actual madness that these men are responsible for?
I enjoyed the show, then i watched this episode, then after 15-20min i was like fuck it i'm done with this fucking backstory that's so slow so i skipped forward a bit until i realised it was THE WHOLE FUCKING EPISODE, can't believe i just watched a filler episode in an actual show holy shit, who thought it would be a good a idea to spend a whole fucking hour on a backstory of a side character. This episode rating on imdb is 4~ and i swear it should be lower, i'm usually open minded to creative stuff, but i couldn't give a single fuck about the backstory, i wanted to hear about the troll, the creature, the witch, Apollo, Brian, anything related to the actual story i've been familiar to. Holy shit it was bad
This episode had way too much subtext. They overestimated the popularity of the book. I feel this would be easier to understand if we read the book first.
I think Apollo might be half witch and half fairy and maybe the mom didn’t want Apollo seeing the dad is because he was a fairy because what in the world was that cartoon 😂 on the tv I was creeped out probably a stretch but I’m watching episode 7 now.
I absolutely LOVED THIS EPISODE... for surprising reasons. I believe most of us are hiding deep deep emotional pain (shame, lack of worth, regret, anger, hopelessness, unforgiveness (for others but also self), a lack of belonging, etc), and this episode brought us deep deep into her psyche to really see how f*cked up some of her life, experiences, decisions, etc were. I was so sucked in. I could feeeeel her pain and so much empathy, too. I think all that 'pretending' we do, it leaves so much of that pain, even if it's 'only' a daily negative voice in your head, just sitting there.... in your subconscious, affecting your life in countless ways. It also hit me bc I am just barely making it through more than 3 years of deep depression and suicidal ideation (finally diagnosed with c-PTSD). Very grateful that I've found the right therapy and therapist, and I am working so hard to be well again, to finally love myself. But THIS EPISODE.... omg, it was so powerful for someone (myself) to feel this, see her perspective and the perspectives of others, to feeeeel their needs and brokenness, their fear, to bear witness... for some reason I felt more heard, less alone, like someone out in the world (the writer of this episode, perhaps?!) 'gets it'... they understand the darkness I've been trapped in for the past few years. And I know I'm not alone in that suffering... so many people in the world are hurting as I've been. This episode was terrifying, but I couldn't look away, and yet it gave me peace and hope. I was STUNNED afterward. Seriously just sat there soaking it in. Thank you for taking a leap to do something new. To not give us what we want or expect, but to give us what, perhaps, we need. Humanity needs such vulnerable honesty and compassion. We need to all heal 💞
I think the two names in the hotel ledger are meant to imply that Lillian *was* having an affair with her boss, and Brian catching her in the act was real - but she prefers not to remember it. Thus attempting to kill Apollo was retaliation for the affair.
Brian was using hot water to drown Apollo - hence the smoke on the floor. That is why the AIDS victim is in a bath. Apollo should have survived with massive burns at least, but he is perfectly fine as he grows up. Perhaps Apollo is the Changeling after all.
I hate it that this is the second to the last episode and they have completely wasted our time with crap we didn't need to see. They could have shown that she killed the man in 5 minutes and got back to the story about emma and the main character guy.. I didn't even like the episode that focus on Emma because it's so vague and doesn't give up any new information to this mystery how are they going to solve everything by 1 episode next Friday? Will they really stick it to/slapping the audience in the face and leave on a cliffhanger and then probably not even get renewed for a new season?. If we have to wait a whole year to understand more of what's going on I'm going to be so disappointed this should be a one-and-done series... . Is kindergarten a troll or not and did he interact with his mom in the past? I couldn't tell if that was him or not.. needless to say this last episode really annoyed and aggravated me.. slow paced with barely telling us anyting involved with the mystery. Other than the one reveal of her being a terrible cheater and murderer and horrible criminal that should be in prison.. . All the women in the show are batshit insane witches. Happy Halloween 👻
Worst episode yet! Tom Hanks got away with it in Castaway, but Adina Porter? Give me a break! 1.3K views and 87 Thumbs Up? Bring back the Thumbs Down view!!!
@@ChoniMitchell the next episode will make sense although it won’t be the finale. I’ve seen what the last episode is about and it’s nowhere near the end of the book!
I seriously thought the whole “if you have to eat a dog” thing was said twice because it meant that Lilian ATE him. 🙈 Lol Like literally cut him up, ate him, used the suitcase for his bones. 😭😂
I loved this episode, it clearly was a filler episode, however it answered some questions for me. One, now i understand why Apollo kept having nightmares of smoke when it came to his father. He tried to drown him. Two: Brian is definitely not Apollo' s father which makes sense, because he doesnt look mixed whatsoever. Three: Lilian made a deal with whatever that thing is, as it took on the manifestation of her older self. She thought it was God, it may be a God, but not in the Christian sense, or it was the devil. Four: it took the baby as payment. Five: Emma is possessed with whatever entity the blue eyed lady is. I think she's the protagonist of whatever that river spirit/God is. The red string binded her until she was needed. Thats all i got.😅
This episode really just doesn't make sense to me, cuz even though i undestood what was going on, what is saying just cleary distorts other mysteries we seemed to have already solved 😩😩😩
This episode was EPIC! I thought it was such a phenomenal art form, explains the curse in such a theatrical way. I couldn’t stop watching I might eve re watch it.
I thought it was slow, confusing, and a bit self-indulgent. At the same time oddly predictable. worst of all worlds. The acting and directing however were extremely well done. It felt like they were pulling a script out of the gutter, and they had to stall for time. The ending however I found very satisfying.
I’m upset that this is the longest episode and the biggest waste of time. The final episode is only 29 mins, not enough time to answer all the questions I have.
This episode completely confused me. I think it should have been placed earlier in the season. I like the idea of Lily Ann's mistake was that Apollo was a changeling. We haven't seen an adult changeling in the series. This idea would change the entire premise about Emma's journey and her wishes. I'm so grateful for the episode breakdowns. Thank you.
I get the whole point of the episode was to reveal what happened to his father, but it was so drawn out and extra.

The final scene shows Lillian and Blackwood had entered their name in the guest book of that hotel in 1977 (the year Apollo was conceived)
Lillian was gaslighting her husband when he confronted her about the affair
@@CHAOS1997 That explains why Apollo is played by a fully black actor unlike Emma whose actor is biracial
Brian’s not dead he was revived like Kindergarten 🤯
I kind of feel bad for Brian ( the dad) because his "insanity" was brought on by the fact that the wife he adored never loved him, was lying for a while, cheated on him, and I'm sure he realised Apollo was not his son. The one thing he wanted was a chance at a happy family..... his world fell apart.
It was not Lillian’s fault that he was an abusive piece of shit. You cannot blame her for trying to kill his son? That’s ridic!!!
@@Mads-vo3ic I’ve seen a few people call him “a good man” and blaming Lillian for his breakdown. It’s scary how many people totally missed how hugely abusive he was from the start!
@@laraertl7911
Is a man being abusive supposed to justify tricking him into raising a child that isn't his?
Or is a man being abusive supposed to make you leave him?
Use your head kid
Driving people insane by your actions does not mean your bear no responsibility in the consequences
@@CHAOS1997 I wasn’t justifying anything, or saying that Lilian isn’t also at fault for what she did, what she did was also wrong, it just bothers me to see so many people calling him “such a good man” and blaming Lilian for his insanity, dude was clearly already insane and scary abusive! It doesn’t excuse what she did at all, she should have ran right after that picnic!
This episode was so confusing so does that mean his father was not a mythical creature or was he a human I don't know... Then that one episode were he had a blue face and blowing out the blue smoke what was that about it doesn't make sense So lost on this🤦🏾♂️ series its a hit d miss for all i know if they do make a season two they better answer all these damn questions lol
Was the guy holding the sign and wearing the sea captain’s hat the sewer dwelling history buff from the last episode?
It was the longest episode of the series & the most boring. It dragged on way to long and confused me.
👍🏽
I didn’t like this episode.
Wack
To be honest this episode turned me off. It made me not want to watch anymore
This was such a waste of an episode.
The last two episodes sucked
I hated this and skipped most of it
Sorry the show is awful & I finally had to tap out this week! lol
You got one episode left... you might as well complete it and draw a line underneath 😅
I would but I couldn't even get through 15 mins of this ep. I don't care if they all die & no one finds the baby, I'm sorry.@@kadeyjames6193 😉🤟
I just noticed how BAD Adina Porter’s acting is in this series. She should not have a scene that long ever again.
I was so stoned during this episode I still have no idea what the hell i watched
I don't think Apollo is a changeling because why would a fairy traded dead baby for a changeling they want a live baby because it's their favorite meal remember

Now back to the regular programming on breaking down this wonderful FAKE ASS fairytale show 🤷🏽♀️
@@brianthomason5022 I need to start the whole series over and rewatch lol. Because everyone is talking about 🧚 fairies and trolls and all that and all I’ve heard mentioned was Changelings and Witches (which before this show I’d never even heard of a changeling)
Ok so idk I guess I was thinking about how the mothers who make it to the island get there just for Cal to tell them that none of the mothers have found their REAL babies - so hell as a mom …. I’m sorry but if I knew my child was gone gone I would almost keep the changeling and try to raise it vs going through the trauma of killing a baby and still not getting my real baby back. Idk.
But seriously I didnt even think about the fairies or whatever eating the babies - dang it my head hurts again. lol
Thanks for the perspective- makes sense
But wait then what the heck IS APOLLO ??
Man it was so drawn out so extra loved the actors in the cinematography but I was falling asleep 😂 hope next episode be clear
😂 same here
Totally agree, it was hard to concentrate
I felt like I was watching a different series during this episode and I miss the vibe from the first few episodes.
They could of did this episode un 15 minutes and dedicated the rest to either Apollo or Emma.
I know,I had to watch it in fast forward
But the backstory is just as important as what is about to happen next
they still could of did it in 15 minutes
@@tyizzle80I think the fact that there’s a season 2 there would need to be context that you’re obviously not supposed to know yet… isn’t that the point of a series
However, revisiting that scene highlighted a detail I find curious and important: *_"Centuries_*_ of names in that book."_ 📖
The Elk Hotel was *only in existence for 100 years.*
Yes! I thought the same thing when they said "centuries"@@BL3SSed-Bliss
Lilian made a deal with the monsters. That’s why they took baby Brian.
Exactly!
@@mathieubenoitmarcellussuch a profound interpretation, I think we filter with a victim mindset and this perspective gives a accountability mindset. So interesting
Yes that mirror scene is important
@@mathieubenoitmarcellus I don’t think Lillian is the monster and Brian was not a good man. (Good men don’t try to kill children) He was verbally abusive, we can see that during the picnic scene where he constantly reminds her she was a nobody with no family and if she went missing no one would know or care. Or how he told her if he couldn’t have her no one could. Additionally when he tried to kill Apollo him and Lillian were already broken up so there was no reason for him to even be at the house.
@@abbestar3103
Then she should've told Apollo that his daddy was the boss she was screwing, not his dad
I thought the best part of this episode was the creature at the very end that you barely saw in the dark depths.
the affair bit is a major left turn from the novel and i havent fully digested if i liked it or not. otherwise, this episode (imo) was masterclass storytelling.
So it seems like they’re going the direction of implying women are crazy (and taking their children away too soon) leads to actual madness that these men are responsible for?
it was a life of excitement, that was pretty obvious if you paid attention to the beginning
Filler episode 🙄
That Etta James cover and scene was so beautiful to look at. Anywho, im so confused now lol
This episode was sooo boring, couldn't finish it.
He didn’t die he somehow survived if you remember cal hit William in the head and he never died !
Holy shit it was bad
the acting was incredible!! It moved me to tears!
Lots of time wasted to say Apollo isn’t that man’s son so he tried to kill him. It’s her boss’s son.
When she mentioned this was her first and only child, did she have another? It's weird how she said it. This show is so good.
I was wondering the same thing
This episode had way too much subtext. They overestimated the popularity of the book. I feel this would be easier to understand if we read the book first.
I think Apollo might be half witch and half fairy and maybe the mom didn’t want Apollo seeing the dad is because he was a fairy because what in the world was that cartoon 😂 on the tv I was creeped out probably a stretch but I’m watching episode 7 now.
That cartoon is like movie or something I heard it’s real good but very trippy
Im done with this show. This is where I get off
I absolutely LOVED THIS EPISODE... for surprising reasons.
I'm rewatching it LOL. Even at the start the narrator states, 'Lily Ann didn't need Apollo's forgiveness. She needed her own.'
This was a trippy episode for sure.
Was something in the water swimming after the suitcase that she threw in there? I havent seen any mention of it and i thought i saw something
There was
@@LaddRusso91 I thought so. I haven't seen any comments about it or any videos even mention it. Weird
You couldn’t PAY me to watch this episode again. There’s not one entertaining minute in the entire episode
Good Easter eggs, but this episode could’ve been condensed tremendously. Decent series, but this one was really hard to get through.
horrible episode, it almost made me to quit watching that series
This whole show is drawn out with exit and is disappointing
What was the freaky thing in the water at the end of the episode ? Just wondering if anyone else caught that?
Just was sooo confused

I found myself just losing interest in this episode. Came here to find out what happened. Did not finish the episode.
I enjoy the show but this episode was horrible. I wish they didn’t make it.
Sooo... Lillian feels sad because she forfeited her DREAM LIFE of becoming a Lounge Singer? 🤣🤣🤣 Lord. This Episode made ABSOLUTELY NO SENSE!
This episode really just doesn't make sense to me, cuz even though i undestood what was going on, what is saying just cleary distorts other mysteries we seemed to have already solved 😩😩😩

I agree, loved this episode
It was trash
Filler episode
I thought it was slow, confusing, and a bit self-indulgent. At the same time oddly predictable. worst of all worlds. The acting and directing however were extremely well done. It felt like they were pulling a script out of the gutter, and they had to stall for time. The ending however I found very satisfying.
I’m upset that this is the longest episode and the biggest waste of time. The final episode is only 29 mins, not enough time to answer all the questions I have.
I think that’s what season 2 is for
You are fantastic! Thank you, it now makes way more sense to me...
Thank you.
