Im surprised no one has mentioned speed grapher, since that's an anime about a guy who has super powered photography, and real cameras show up in every op and ed.

@@matt_tubemake sure you find the original broadcast because they use Duran Duran’s Girls on Film for the opening song and it’s seriously one of the best anime openings of all time.
Watched Perfect Blue yesterday, and in some shots the cameras are branded Niken while in a later scene a photographer is seemingly using a regular Nikon F4. The movie was originally Straight to VHS, so maybe after they changed it to cinematic release they gained licensing rights to the Nikon brand and just didn’t update the earlier cells in the movie.

In the anime FLCL the character Mamimi uses two 35mm Olympus cameras, one point and shoot and an slr, probably an XA2 and an OM-1.
Also in the anime film Perfect Blue, an exploitative photographer character uses a nikon F4 SLR
and in the Ghibli film Only Yesterday a character is seen with an Olympus Pen half frame camera
The movie camera at 3:43 is definitely trying to vaguely be something like a Bell & Howell 2709 or a Mitchell NC. Classic silent film era 35mm cameras.

Also, the triple lens turret was a common thing seen on cameras aimed at documentary and newsreels. To quickly swap prime lenses in situations you couldn't reshoot. And they even migrated over to TV cameras before finally getting zooms once those optics became affordable and available.
As this is clearly a promotional stunt that the plane designerwanted to document and sell to news reel distributors back in the silent era. The style of plane and the non blimped hand cranked camera suggest this quite heavily.
That and 16 mm was more of a home movie thing. Not intended for big cinema venues. And I am fairly certain that the 16mm format was not really used industry wide until after the end of silent cinema.
So I agree. It's probably some Mitchell or Pathé newsreel camera or close to that.
Another example of a anime with real cameras is FLCL. Mamimi has a Olympus XA2 (street color variant) and a Olympus OM. She is constantly taking photos throughout the series.

In "The wind rises" i think they ment to mimic a Mitchell Model A.
The motion picture camera on the boat is most likely a take on the Micheal Standard 35mm camera which was common with news reel crews in the 20s.
While not a film camera, there is an Epson RD1 in Welcome to the NHK.
FLCL also has a lot of Olympus gear shown, notably showing the Olympus XA2
You should really check out Tamayura! The whole show and manga dedicated to cameras and cgdct. Even the Japanese town the show is based off of honors the show irl. Have fun and I can wait for part 2!
The old Beavis and Butt-Head episode there is a camera that looks like a old Olympus bridge camera.

In Kariage Kun episode 2, it seems Kariage uses a "Nikon" camera (labelled as "Micon" in the film but it's not hard to guess which brand they're trying to parody), uncertain what model they used as inspiration since it looks quite fictious but I believe it's either Nikon FM/FE or FA
While a few days ago I watched Aggretsuko season 5 where Retsuko's dad is apparently a shutterbug and he loves to document Retsuko's life milestones since she was born until grown up with a camera that looks like a Nikon F4

In Bakuon!! Hayakawa the butler use a Nikon F with waist-level viewfinder in the opening and in a few other episodes for group photos.
Although not a film camera, in Koe no Katachi (A Silent Voice) Yuzuru carry around a Nikon D3300 to take pictures of dead animals.
From the looks of it, Nikon seems to be the most respected camera brand in Japan despite Canon (along with Sony now) technically being more popular worldwide.

Just Because from some years ago had a character that carried around a Canon PowerShot G5 X. She also appeared using a Canon 7D Mark II and in advertisements an EOS M6.
Caught a little attention because Canon supported the series.
More recently there's also Yesterday wo Utatte.
The protagonist is a photographer, the eventually works at a photo gallery and studio. He uses fake "Kamon" cameras, but other than the name everything else is identical. I remember seeing him using an old film EOS and he had a personal Canon F-1.
A side character also uses a fake Fujifilm disposable camera.
There are others that appears rapidly, hard to identify.
