As an owner of a 2015 Beetle Convertible, I can say that I did consider the Mini Cooper when I was shopping around. But as you said, the closest comparable Mini was a Mini Cooper S, which started at $35k before any options. I had already owned a FIAT, so that wasn't an option. I was also looking at the Mustang and Camaro, but the dealers wanted too much, especially the mustang as it was an outgoing model. I will say that I also didn't even consider the Golf, only because it's not available in convertible, and that's all I wanted. Also, soon everyone and their grand parents are going to have a Golf because they are "practical." The Beetle is, indubitably, a 'lifestyle' car; It's not about the practicality or cargo room. It takes a certain kind of person to want a Beetle, and they are usually the most fun at parties.
I feel like I heard more about the Golf than about the Beetle in this review... I think people consider buying a Beetle for its unique look and personality and because it is a car that really stands out... I personally would have enjoyed hearing more about the features of the Beetle and not what it lacks compared to the boring Golf...
At 5:38 you say the mini cooper comes with a "3 liter turbo" you say that twice, (that 3.0 turbo six would be nuts in the mini cooper) but I believe you mean to say 3 cylinder turbo.

This right here. Super disappointed in this review.
Those are fun little cars. I can honestly tell you that; because I own one.
If I'm not mistaken, the 1.8 cost more in repairs at the dealer compared to the previous 2.5 engines because its now considered a turbo.
Is this a review of the Golf or Beetle?

Bob Hope My bad.
Volkswagen should have placed spoilers by default on every one of their beetles; from the lowest international trim level to the dune.
The New VW Beetle was once known as the “Poor Man’s Porsche”
