The merry go round is in Elmira, NY at Eldrige Park...Grew up in Elmira, loved the park...Miss it the original rides, like the whip, flying airplanes, buttercups.. It was so much fun...
Only a few,,,,,very few of us can hold this SMALL bit of footage DEAR to us.....and we DO! This is so very cool! Memories.....dear precious memories forever ........forever gone...... Goodbye Eldridge park......goodbye Speedway.......good bye.......bye......
The original horses on the merry-go-round were sold off at auction, but the merry-go-round has been restored, the train ride is running again, there's a Flying Scooters ride, & they've built a beautiful putt-putt course. Now we need the roller coaster replaced. It's slowly coming back.
the park closed down in stages really - by the 80s it was closed down. A very small version of the park still exists today. This is wiki link about the park - en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Eldridge_Park.
It’s so sad that with all the urban development that went on in the 70’s & 80’s, America lost so many old fashioned amusement parks and their historic rides. I grew up in San Francisco in the 50’s and we lost a great Oceanside amusement park called Playland at the Beach. It was demolished in 1972. It had classic rides like the Giant Dipper roller coaster, The Wild Mouse coaster, rock o plane, roller plane, The Twister (a kind of tilt a whirl ride) a Diving Bell and a beautiful Charles Looff Carousel with 68 animals, and 4 working band organs. Also had a big classic Fun House with a 50’ giant wooden slide. Now it’s been replaced by ugly condos across from the Pacific Ocean beach
Grew up in W. Elmira in the 60's & 70's. This brought back a flood of memories. Thanks for posting.
Talk about a blast from the past. When I was a young boy in the 50's it seemed so much bigger. Great memories, thanks for posting!

I wish they'd bring back this awesome roller coaster for the new Eldrige Park!
I was born in Elmira and rode that thing a few times way back when.
Thank you for the memories!!! My favorite ride? Airplane or Whip...
Carousel, bumper cars, and the WHIP!!!
My first roller coaster...Thanks.
That roller coaster scared me when I was a kid... Gave me my fear of coasters.

That place was the greatest!
I remember watching it a year or two before they closed it and a board fell off when the cars went around the big high curve.
Would love to know who shot this video! Spent a good part of my childhood there! The current Park would love to have a copy...
Wow this is so cool
So sad it's all gone now
Where is the beautiful merry go round?
When did it closed down?
