For such a juicy interview, I wish Heather would stop interrupting because she was spilling tea big time without all the stopping
Telling Alexis what Chelsea said behind their back was mean-spirited and so unnecessary.
Plus, my parents made me watch all the drug-related movies that were supposed to shock me into never using drugs as a kid, and I still ended up a heroin addict, because of all the trauma and pain I needed to numb in order to survive at the time, exactly as Alexis was saying. I haven’t met a single drug-addict that uses drug just because. It’s always because of pain and trauma, that’s the root of the problem.

Her hypothesis that watching drug addicts in movies would stem drug abuse...OMG. She needs to stop. Alexis is a saint for listening to that crap. After this lady detailed all her trauma...This is a mess
Exactly. She then goes on to say that her family was extremely open with her about these things. Did she ever stop to consider that it was that openness and the safe adult presence in her life that caused her to avoid such things or to be alarmed by the things she saw in the movies in the first place? Scare tactics only work on kids who are scared of the consequences already, not people with unstable home lives who need an escape and haven't been taught to value their own safety.
She is a prime example of how amazing the 12 step program is, she is eloquent, self aware and understands addiction.

She’s not stupid it’s just not her experience. She should be clearer when she speaks and say “my experience has been ____” instead of relating it to all ppl bc not everyone shares her experience. My experience is pretty much the exact same as Alexis’s so I get it. I just think Heather doesn’t know any better because she just doesn’t know.

@@suebell5504 I agree, she often interrupts her guests and talks over them when they are sharing. The point of having someone on your podcast is to listen attentively while they are engaging your audience! I found myself pausing the video often to be able to continue watching and not get upset.
Lol I saw drugs and eating disorders in those tacky lifetime movies growing up and it scared the shit out of me. Guess what? Still ended up a drug addict with an eating disorder. Scary media doesn’t work if you have extreme trauma in your life and you are desperate for an extreme way to cope with it.
Yeah Heather seemed to have a very narrow mind during this interview. She doesn't understand addiction nor was she trying to. We should all just stop shaming addicts because NO ONE wakes up and says I think I'm gonna turn into a junkie today. I've been clean 4 years and everyone always says the same thing, I never would've guessed. Addiction doesn't discriminate.
As a heroin addict, 10 1/2 years clean (btw it started with Vicodin then became OxyContin but my parents weren’t Hollywood rich so eventfully the progression of the addiction is to move to heroin) anyway, being I have the experience I INFINITELY AGREE with what this girl just said about preventing addiction....it’s not the problem, addiction is A SYMPTOM TO THE REAL PROBLEM which is abuse & the trauma that comes with it. The drugs do not come first...the trauma does & the reason some ppl can party & never touch a drug again but other people can’t stop & become addicted is because those who experience trauma from abuse are effected entirely differently than those who haven’t. It makes us feel worthy, likable, perhaps even lovable, attractive etc that effect definitely fades but by the time it does, you are physically addicted & can’t stop.
I’ve heard heather say these stupid psa made for tv awareness movies are needed but they won’t do shit...no psa is gonna do for a broken soul what an opiate does....those films only work for people whose upbringing didn’t leave them traumatized & hating themselves.

How can you really think that more PSAs or media fear would keep someone suffering so much with trauma, depression, anxiety, bipolar, schizophrenia, literally countless underlying causes including physical pain. But yeah that fake scene in a movie will make people forget they are in constant agony and stay away from drugs! 🤦🏻♀️ Smh
I know this is 2 years late, but I would really love to talk to someone that has been through this and gain some insight.
My fiance's former fiance died from a heroin overdose. I am a very empathetic person and she used social media a lot, so seeing how in love they were and how vibrant she was really gets to me. I have spent so much time just trying to understand.
The thing that I don't understand- and it sometimes makes my empathy turn to anger is how she is almost put on a pedestal in memory and people discuss how she must have had hidden pain she was masking, but by all accounts she came from a happy, loving, family. Her siblings and parents were stable. Never wanted for anything. Not in a spoiled way - but a stable, secure way. My fiance is a wonderful man and they had a healthy, happy relationship.
She was a high functioning addict and worked as a nurse and competed in martial arts and no one even knew until she overdosed.
I, on the other hand, grew up in poverty and was physically and emotionally abused my whole life. I walked away from a very insular religion and lost everything was called all sorts of names and disowned and had so much trauma, but sometimes feel overlooked because I "made it out" without any substance abuse or notable incidents. But I literally scraped by for years with no outlet and still deal with anxiety and depression from all the trauma and have anxiety attacks often. I never had financial security or a safety net. Never got to have a wholesome, easy life.
I just get angry that someone that had it all - everything i always wanted in life could throw it away and then have people feel sympathy for her pain, but not see that there are people alive that are suffering that are doing everything in their will to cope healthily.
She has probably hundreds of tributes online about her, so maybe this clouds my judgement and I absolutely do understand that things aren't always what they seem.. I just don't get it.
Anytime I hear about a heroin od, people discuss things like what you or Alexis went through, but with her - there wasn't any incident or trigger point. I guess I don't know what I'm asking, but just curious about your thoughts.
She has grown so much I enjoy watching her interviews and how honest she is

I have been sober from heroin for 2 years now. I am just so happy that this is out in the world. I relate with her so much about multiple things. She brought up so many things that are very important things that need to be told, and she represent the life that people can have after addiction. I’m glad that heather gave her this platform to reach her audience and tell them about the world that not many people have any idea is going on. Great job!
Edit: I also applaud how Alexis navigated around Heather’s lack of knowledge on the subject. Heather did nothing wrong, she just had no idea what this really is like.

Happy to see that Alexis has turned her life around and is using her platform to educate those of us who may have a hard time understanding addiction. I love Heather and the podcast and this is the first time I actually felt uncomfortable listening. She came off as dismissive toward her guest; interrupting her and talking over her. She made a point to speak about how Chelsea Handler thought Pretty Wild was “embarrassing” and that seemed super insensitive after Alexis spoke honestly about her time on the show. No need to make her feel MORE ashamed. Anyway, I hope the exposure brings Alexis more listeners on her own podcast - she has an educated and interesting point of view of the opioid epidemic in this country. Still love Juicy Scoop!
Thank you!!! I have the same opinion. Heather walked into that interview a tad bit judgy with preconceived notions, and obviously has her own ill feelings in regards to Chelsea Handler.. And the questions about the sexual abuse and insinuating or implying that perhaps her 2nd abuser just "sensed" that she'd be an easy target because she had been abused before??!!! What the hell WAS that?? Most of us DON'T want to try and understand why a pedophile chooses their victims, and asking the victim to try and see why their perpetrator chose her was disgusting to say the least. That seriously gave me an opinion of Heather that is not so flattering.. Hmm, I believe Heather has talked some kind of trash about this young lady, which doesn't make for such an objective reporter or interviewer.

I've never heard of Alexis until I started listening to this podcast and this interview made me emotional, her story it's so sad but interesting and now I'm kinda obsessed wanting to know all there is to know about her, I love how naturally Heather interviews it's like their just chatting after meeting at a dinner party, I'm glad Alexis survived her addiction and I hope she stays strong in the future especially since she now has kids of her own

I used to love heather but the constant interrupting and the condescending tone is so off putting now. Heather is so judgmental, she seems immature. She comes across as catty now and props to Alexis because I wouldn’t feel comfortable opening up to her about this stuff. Oh and also the constant bringing it back to herself and talking about herself 🙄
25:59 - I know she doesn't feel comfortable saying who it was, but this *screams* Sultan of Brunei and his younger brother. They are notorious for recruiting girls from the US, using a female booker with the promise of modeling jobs, when in reality it's an elaborate disguise and really an audition to be their "girlfriends", which eventually turns into a member of their harem. He also owns a luxury hotel in Paris.

I remember watching this show & watching the train wreck happening and couldn’t believe this was their lives! I’m glad Alexis turned out the way she did & is happy & healthy with her own husband/children. Second chances are great if you take them and turn your life around.

Like when she Alexis is talking about her sexual abuse she cared to know what was going on in the abusers mind. Ewww. And then saying “when you were 14 or whatever”. What a waste of time for Alexis. I’m not gonna finish watching this after 20 minutes.
Yeah, Alexis is detailing a foreign official trying to finesse her into sexual slavery and Heather's like "So wait, were you on drugs?" (she's been saying it the whole interview, YEAH) then she's pretty much like "OK, so let's talk about how you smuggled them in your cooch?". That's definitely NOT the scoop, Heather.
I actually started watching half way through and its reallyyyy good. You should finish it.
Alexis did such a great job! I hope Heather looks back at these recordings and constructively looks at what she can improve on as an interviewer. Great questions though 👌🏽

Alexis referred to herself as just the wife for the work that she shows up for at the rehab facility. She deserves a title as much as anyone else working there. She is making an impact. Perhaps she doesn’t have the credentials to be a counselor, but she is definitely involved in managing clients and should be building a resume that reflects her current work life.

trauma is the #1 thing for addiction.
And that needs to be made known and aware! Its the TRUTH.
Those movies spread awareness but its not that! Its the trauma people go through and how they handle it.
Alexis has always been so pretty. We all have pasts but she came out amazing on the other side
Imagine being so naive as to think that a movie was the solitary reason you never became a drug addict. If that were the case everyone would be like here watch this magic movie. I grew up in a house where my father had been an addict for 20 years and I heard every horror story under the Sun and watched many movies about addiction. Guess I must have missed the one she was talking about. 15 years sober, thank God. It wasn't a movie that got me sober either.

This was hard to watch... Heather is not the appropriate interviewer for this type of discussion. Alexis is so kind to not be offended by the ignorance. Heather literally contradicts herself by saying people her age watched movies that made them not want to try drugs and then she would visit her brother in rehab and listen to the stories [of people her age]... she is not an addict and that’s why she did not become addicted to drugs. Shut up and learn from Alexis. Don’t not push your “wisdom” on others who are well educated in their field. It’s embarrassing to listen to you interrupt with irrelevant stories of your experience. Step back and be an actual interview professional, listen and chime in when you have questions to contribute to them telling their story.

When I was younger (In my early 20s) I had an addiction with Oxy and it got real SCARY especially towards the end. I never smoked it, I always took the coding off then crushed it up and snorted it. ThankGod Im clean from it today.. Addiction is real and it is scary AF💯 Congratulations to Alexis for getting sober, thats beautiful 💯👏👏👏

Do you see the thing that people don’t understand about addiction is I was very much exposed to the negative aspects about addiction when I was younger but in my depraved mind that is exactly what drew me to it once I dropped out of high school and had no other positive options left for me..
This was really good. It explains a lot if you saw the show. Trama is soooo hard to live with. This girl is Resilient and beyond tough. Kuddos to her for turning her life around AND helping others in THEIR recoveries 🙌🏻

She was never actually homeless! She always had a bed to sleep at night. She makes me sick!!! If this bitch walked into the methadone clinic I go to in Detroit and walked in as a counselor. They would be like “get this dumb bitch outta here and give me a real counselor.” It’s not fair she never truely did her time of going through real addicts shit. She partied in Hollywood and thinks she is a dam addict and now gets to be a counselor cause she threw her pussy at the co founder of the Alo rehab center.

Kids aren't 'shock' educated about drugs because as a Society we look at 'users' differently these days. We are more aware that addiction is for most covering trauma. The old 'you're better than that' doesn't apply because we all know n see how we ourselves could be 1 'event' away from addiction.
I don’t think she “interrupts” all the time, I think it’s a dialogue kind of interview, and her style is like that. And she has interesting questions.

How stupid to think, watching Forrest Gump and seeing Jenny be a heroine addict is going to prevent teens from trying drugs! Seeing a gorgeous movie star portraying a drug addict in a movie is the dumbest thing I can think of as a way to prevent youth drug use. It would more likely perpetuate drug use all drugs glamorized in movies, a fraction of the realities of addiction are shown and it's never as bad as it is in real life. The Wolf of Wall Street made me wish qualudes were still around so I could try them. Being a recovering addict, I used to be triggered to use watching "Intervention" where you see nothing but the bad sides of drug use.
This podcast was great. It doesn’t seem to me that Heather is interrupting she’s just having a conversation with her...

I know this episode came out a few years ago, but I just watched it for the first time. I thought it was a great interview and very informative. How Alexis has turned her life around is amazing. I’m in recovery myself and I know how hard it is.
I was reading some of the comments and they kind of upset me. I do not feel like Heather was interrupting at all. She was asking questions when it was appropriate and the interview would have not been the same without the questions. If Heather just sat there and nodded her head the whole time the interview would suck and it’d feel like she doesn’t care. Heather is great at interviewing and adding appropriate humor even during powerful, serious topics.
