    I've had good luck with running the 259d and can say there great and reliable I focus on grading floors to hard scraping and anything else a track machine could be used for. I'm an owner operator with only this machine to make my businesses successful so it has to be reliable. I put anywhere from 1300 to 1500 hours in three seasons and shut down in the winter months. I ran my last 2015 model machine to 3500 hours with only a few issues along the way. The only thing that tended to fail on me on a regular basis was the electric fuel lifter pump a really simple fix and only takes 15 min to swap out having a spare on me at all times. The undercarriage was worn right out and needed all new boggies the seals let go so no oil left in them I never replaced one traded it last year for a new 2018 model and it has 1380 hours on it with no issues other than the lift pump again. When I get a machine I do wrap the houses with tire iner tube that go from the the drives to the pump to minimize lines rubbing threw. I change the hydraulic hoses on the boom around 1500 hours because I find the hose flexes really bad at the back of the machine and I hate down time its alot easier and nicer to change lines in a heated shop on my off season rather than when on a job site. Used to run asv - terex before and was constantly fixing them. Its nice too jump into a machine that gives you peace of mind it's going to keep running.

    259d is a great machine owned one new since 2016 ran it 900hrs and traded it in for a 2018 259d with hydro quick disconnect not electric. I like that they can dig without stalling out and have lots of pushing power. The emissions are great with the engine design

    We just bought a used CAT 259 D and the speed sensor and broken drive hose that you pointed out both needed to get fixed within a month after we received it.

    You can set that up to have a remote oil filter up on the door. It'll probably void your warranty even though it won't hurt anything.

    The Door/Windshield is a pain in the ass. JCB have solved this design flaw by putting it on the side. Also having one arm instead of two helps. You can enter and exit with the arm in any position.

    A couple years ago my company bought a small fleet of these as they definitely were the superior performer but after 2 years of use and cost analysis it turned out the hourly operating costs were substantially higher than our D8 dozers which themselves are not cheap machines to operate,the proprietary undercarriage parts is what makes them superior performers but also their main downfall cost wise,good unit only if you have money to burn.

    Most likely the Cat Shop removes the battery to change the filter? These 259Ds are built like a tank🌻

      Cat track skid steers use a cushioned trunnion suspension which rides so nice but is inferior for grading like trying to grade with a wheel loader,secondly the operating costs on the cats is almost double all the competition,when used in mud the hourly costs are higher than a d8

    • @Peter-fg7rd
      @Peter-fg7rd 4 роки тому +1

      @@DaveTW65 you obviously don't know what your talking when it comes to grading because the CATS especially the 259 are the most well balanced and smoothest controls , no delay with the pilot controls and can make tiny movements with the bucket.... Bobcats have more power but are a joke to grade with

    Agree with the bad radio and water issue. Also why can't the locate it up front somewhere so you can actually see it and access the controls ? Only way you can operate the radio is when standing toward the seat. Can't acess during operation. By the way, I changed the radio with a better unit; sound is much better but still bad location. Do you have any issues with water getting inside the cab from rain ? I have this issue but can't see a problem with the door seal or roof glass seal. Could it be coming in from the bad radio seal system ? When changing radios, I was careful to use the original case with threaded bolt system to reseal, but suspicious it leaks there. Any thoughts or experience with water leaks in the cab ?

      i have bought a 259d brand new in 2016. Great machine served me well, speed sensor went out, thats it in 900 hrs. Traded it in for a new 2018 259d and that machine is just as awesome, got the hydro bucket disconnect. Was looking at a 2017 Takeuchi tl8 for $50,000.00 loaded with high flow but the emissions turned we away and instead bought the 2018 259d for $62,000.00 loaded with out high flow.

    Mine pulled the speed sensor wire clear out from under the cab.
    Also, the glow plugs come on for a few seconds before start and then cut off. Even at 0 degrees. Then they operate after startup for 30 seconds.
    Really annoying.

    Hey Budd , do some research online there is aftermarket guards for the speed sensors ... I put 1000k hours on a 259d at the new Rams stadium 12 hours a day 7 days a week and only issue it had was the track sensor ! Fucking awesome for grading and dozing piles ....

    Not much bucket curl, awkward to get in and out, bad rear and side visibility, hard to clean window. I have a 257b and a 2018 brand new New holland C227 fully loaded for $56 000 CAD its better than the 257b in every way except the track rubble on hard ground and electronic controls are shitty compared to hydraulic pilots. The C227 is two speed and in high its the same speed as the 257b when twice the pushing power.

      I run a 259 d3 where I am working and I don’t like it for many different reasons it’s under powered the visibility is horrible the cab is too small the lifting capacity is not great witch is great because if it had decent lifting you’d break the loader and the one at work they keep breaking locking pins for the attachment and quick coupler attach plate from my experience Kubota makes a nicer machine than cat only nice thing for cat is the speed
