  • Using Spike Prime and Mindstorms Robot Inventor to measure pendulum period.
    The Light Reflection sensor is connected to Port A and a Python program calculates and displays the error in seconds/day.
    The sensor may be installed offset as shown with the wall clock or centered as shown with the Grandfather clock.

    In theory, you could actually use this on standard mechanical clocks as well.

    I built the sensor into the Grandfather Clock so that it would be easy to temporarily connect the Robot Inventor Hub to calibrate the clock.
    The Wall clock isn't so lucky, we'll investigate alternative solutions.

      LOL, I am considering building one that uses the Robot Inventor Hub to operate the winder, emit chimes, and adjust escapement power through a 2-speed transmission to modulate the pendulum. the time-keeping would still be gravity driven mechanical.
      that's cheating :D
