I feel like Windows 8.1's reputation was destroyed by Windows 8. Windows 8.1 was/is Windows 7 with touch support for a type of device that was only just entering the market. I think it was a bit like Windows Vista where the OS was great but the hardware was not ready. I am running Windows 11 on that kind of device and I think I might put 8.1 on there while I wait for more touch support on Linux desktop environments.
Well, Wayland has better touch screen support than X11 though it's a hit or miss for my DE (KDE Plasma) since the Wayland session there is still buggy as hell. On the other hand, GNOME has a great Wayland session (even if I don't like the DE itself)
@@emmanueljimenez1574 I found Fedora GNOME works extremely well on touch. I was initially more of a KDE fan but GNOME is great on a convertible laptop.

The windows 8.1 version is the April 2014 Update. The original Windows 8.1 doesn't have the shut down and search button and there isn't the store button in the application bar and onedrive is called skydrive like windows 8. Why you forgot em?
Do you know a Windows 8 preview build that still use Aero Glass but the minimize, maximize and close buttons are colored like macOS window control buttons?
The fact that Windows 8’s support lasted until a year before Vista’s EOL is pretty damning on the concept they were trying to push. With 8.1, it was the closest thing to having a Windows 7 setup with further support. And now it’s just a version that did everything well except truly fixing that one crippling flaw.

you can try dual boot with windows 8.1
I think windows 8.1 was destroyed because it was unbearably slow. I had the worst experience ever using it

even if the ribbon never was useful. it looks nice in the explorer with the Aero design.
It looks like it was designed for Windows 7!
I actually did use the ribbon, I kinda liked it.
I dont know why people did not like the windows 8 but for me the start on windows 8 is the best and most unique thing windows ever got.
agreed
Ur not the only one who loved 8’s ui😁
Same but they could add Aero theme so we could choose between Aero and Metro
The question is....
Why Windows 11 Got leaked? Is Microsoft Forgot this Simple but meaningful word? At 0:24

I like the aesthetic they were going for in the betas, reminds me of old windows phones
That was definitely what they were going for, which makes it unique.

0:18 this is Windows 8 Beta Build 7850 why didnt they change it to Windows 8 branding they just copypasted the branding from Windows 7
they didn't copy paste, they just didn't change it until later in development.
They didn't start from scratch in windows 8, what they basically did is take windows 7 and changed it
the windows 8 logo didnt exist in build 7850 times
Windows 8.1 will die after a few moments, so I remembered it and went to this video and heard the music and it was kinda sad

I thought these developer build expired by one year after Windows 8 release??
Windows 8: Are you kidding me?
They did expire. Difference is that the device restarts every 1-2 hours.
Microsoft's priority for Windows 8 was always to make the start screen the size of the entire screen ... 😮
I will never understand why they removed the Start button in 8. It looks like a bug or a glitch without it. What was even the point?
That happens when M$ launches a Feedback program... But they they don't pay attention to its customers 😒
