"Fist my Bump" was the best line in Project Hail Mary.
Yes yes yes!
I had no idea Andy Weir was such an adorable genius.
I would also die for Rocky 💜
Where's the Rocky merch? I need a Rocky plushie ASAP!
@@jspringer1978 there is some out there, it is mostly his quotes not an image of him on the shirts.
I watched this and immediately downloaded Project Hail Mary and completed it in a single sitting while driving from San Diego to Eugene Oregon. It’s my favorite book now. Period. I’m about to read it again.
They better get Rocky right in the movie 🤣 I want to leave going “AMAZE AMAZE”
Andy Weir is such a lovable guy, what a book he wrote! absolutely genious
The brain of a scientist. The effortless abandon of a child. The wisdom of an old man. Andy Weir does life right.
Thanks, Joe, for making this available to watch.
I cried in this book. I won’t say when bc of spoilers but god damn it got me
me too
fun read
Oh ny God. Joe and Andy have the best freaking bromance! I love it!
My favorite part about the ending is that Nerds never know how to hang up. All of my Teams meetings end the same way. Every engineer saying "bye" 7 or 8 times lol
I can't wait for the Project Hail Mary movie.
Yes! At 40:08 Andy talks about the Eridians not knowing about Relativity. I always thought that was one of the coolest things in the story. And yeah, I'm kinda tired of the aliens always being the more superior race over humans. I was waiting for them to talk about that Relativity thing. I loved how Rocky's mind was blown when Grace explained it.
I got something for ya!
1) Google TVTropes
2) Look up “Aliens never invented the wheel”
3) Check out the Literature tab
4) Enjoy a LOT of book suggestions that also cover that kind of theme.
I love it too! It’s one of my favourite sci-fi subjects.
I was totally hoping he was thinking about sequels! There's so much more to explore as the story goes forward.
This novel surprised me; it's really good. I read The Martian when it came out, and I liked it, but I didn't love it. This one, I really loved. I hear it's been optioned for a movie, too.
Greetings Starfighter!
A movie would be good good good.
They literally talk about the movie in the podcast and Ryan Gosling is the lead, lol.
Listened to "hail Mary " twice in a month. I love it. And rocky is the best
I LOVED project Hail Mary, when he goes back to rescue Rocky omg I cried during that scene!! Great episode you guys have great chemistry
0:17:17 I would buy the fictional biology book (preferably with drawings of the planets and living things). I really love the Netflix series Alien Worlds. It's fun to imagine alien lives on alien worlds.
Andy is my spirit animal! 😂 I can't stop smiling and laughing he's such a joy and a good time lol! The camaraderie is just amazing between the two 😊
Joe you committed a crime to yourself by not posting the podcast on UA-cam. Glad you did now. I watched OLF weekly and now I'll pick this one up too because you're awesome.
Love how both have a Tardis in the background!
Andy Weir made a good point about using technology to "see the invisible." But if Rocky's species could detect visible spectrum ER without eyes, why couldn't they detect ionizing radiation? You know, the radiation that killed Rocky's crew?
Hey Joe - Since you uploaded these all recently, it would be really helpful if you put the original dates of the conversations in the descriptions for when the context matters.
The chefs metaphor @16:44 (chefs kiss)
I love this bromance.
Joe, your main channel is one of my favorites and I’m excited for this one after opening with Andy!
Andy, I’ve listened to all 3 of your books and loved them. I can’t wait for the movie adaptations for Artemis and Project Hail Mary.
#ISleepNowYouWatch
I had heard about this series many times but for some reason it never really clicked that there was all this great nerdy content over here. I’ll have to come back to this first episode once I’ve read the book. The chemistry with these two is just too good to miss.
Every interview with Andy Weir is pure gold
1:10:30 "This is going to be an audio podcast" -- HAHA the internet changed your mind!
Great interview. Really informative and entertaining too. I think Project Hail Mary has, in a matter of weeks, found its way into my top-5 all time books. Possible even No. 1. One of the highlights for me was the synth effect used on Rocky's voice. The audiobook is awesome.
You guys have too much fun. Thanks for this Love the Book and cant wait to get sequels and the movie.
You guys are hilarious, loved this entire interview. I have complete sympathy for Andy with such a tiny baby, hope he's doing well!
I've been bingeing on these for the past 2 days and can say without a doubt you are extremely talented and destine for greatness Joe, also wonderful music!!
Thank you so much for the rec, Joe! I inhaled it within 2 days. (Went with the audiobook, didn’t disappoint.) The subject matter was very doomsday but the whole book was light-hearted (for the most part.) Lovely! Absolutely lovely. Listened to this on your podcast on Spotify and thought, “why not?” Liked hearing Andy geek out about something he’s clearly passionate about and you just letting him speak. A lot of interviewers talk all over their guests.
I'm a big fan of yours, well a fan. Love your science explanations. I really enjoyed all 3 of Andy's novels especially PHM so what a great guest to have for launching your new channel. I've already subscribed. The very best of luck with this and all future endeavours for 2024 and Beyond! ......😂
How is this not more popular yet! Great stuff, thanks so much for making these and sharing them with us!
Finlay I can listen to this amazing podcast!! Been waiting for a year to finish the book so I can finally listen to it! Thank you Joe!!
This was a lot of fun, especially when conversation just got all random. Joe, you should consider getting Andy on as like, a fact checker at the end. "Andy approves" or summat.
Love that episode. I would definitely read the document on rocky’s biology !
I fucking LOVE Rocky oh my god
Best of luck with your new channel!
Late to the party here, but let's go. Close to the end of the book I was really woried it would turn out that Rocky had sabotaged Grace's ship. It would have been devastating. Thank you Andy for going for a satisfying end!
Whoa never knew just how fantastic Andy's sense of humor is haha great guy!
Joe - thanks for this incredible interview! Brilliant, hard sci-fi stories seem rare, so I really have wanted to geek out with others on this title. The release of the video was perfectly timed as I just completed my second pass on the audiobook. Thrilled to hear a sequel may be in the works. The only challenge for me with the audiobook was having Ray Porter narrate since he also performed in the Bobiverse series. For a while, it felt like Bob was on the ship. Now I'll be thinking of Grace the next time I listen to a story that Ray voices!
I love this interview! Thanks guys!
Can't wait to see Emma Stone's interpretation of Rocky on screen!
I’ve been DYING for this episode!!! Thank you sir!! Listened to the audiobook twice, one of my favorites of all time.
I was trying to rewatch this episode and looked up 'Conversations With Joe Andy Weir', you can imagine my confusion when the video I started watching was a video with completely different content and was titled 'Conversations With Joe - Andy Weir'. I swore I was going crazy for a second then checked the upload date. Scared me Joe.
This was an awesome novel. Loving the conversation.
i would absolutely love a biology book about rocky’s species
DYING for the movie, too!
This story craves a sequel, I wanna know how earth fared during this 20 year+ ordeal, societal collapse, and then how they dare with (hopefully) Grace’s return. This story could expand anywhere! More details about Rocky’s society & evolution would be fascinating. How earth has coped with astrophage, given how dangerous and energy dense the organism is.
I'd really LOVE to see the Eridian encyclopedia!!!
Hi. I'm super excited to have found this book. It caught my glimpse as I saw it as a recommendation on Obamas instagram haha. I suffer from depression and for a long time I had difficulties to pick up a book although I love sci-fi. Also I watched the Martian a lot. It really really helped me. Both books are centered around loneliness and finding a reason to make your journey worth it.
Lovely conversation! Mr. Andy Weir have a very beauty way to tell hard sci fi storys. I remember one episode on the Star Trek franchise (think was on "Enterprise") where an alien consul was horrified because the Captain Archer invited the delegation for dinner...
Looking ahead on the channel video list, you have some very "heavy weight" minds in here and, as usual, exceeded expectations, Mr. Scott. Deepfully thank you for that and... maybe you can make a round with Prof. Edmund Copeland sometime? (excuse my rusty South American english)
This was awesome.
Great idea to have these conversations!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
54:59 IIRC chickenhole base is in nevada
These two are my people. 😊
Astrophage = Prodoculture From ROBOTECH ;) Love the book!
I laughed out loud at "chopping broccoli" ROFL
Great talk. Thank. Jazz Hands.
I would die for Rocky!
Thanks Joe. You rock. Also: Andy Weir rocks. Like space rocks.
Jazz hands!
Of course his name is grace: "Hail Mary, full of grace....."
Interviewer seemed unprepared. But I loved listening to Andy
- A great interview made better by your banter.
Book of alien species biology without a plot? Sounds like a game universe supplement to me. I LOVE those.
Somebody let Andy weir know I’ve wanted an Eridian biology book since I first met rocky in the book… that will 100% sell, but it needs illustrations at least checked and approved by Andy as accurate
And Andy is great too, loved The Martian!! book and movie, need to acquire new book sounds good so far
27:00 But, actually, human body IS paralyzed while it's in sleep mode. Human body releases specific chemicals to ummobilize itself for duration of dreaming, so you couldn't heart youself from movement in sleep.
Dude. You so need to start showing up at the Joe Scott funerals…
What? Only one hour 😢
I absolutely loved the book, but i'm a little nervous for that choice of lead for the movie adaptation. but in typical Hollywood fashion, the role rarely goes to the actor who will do the best job. it's all about marketing and Gosling is good marketing i guess?. I hope he does a good job, but when i look at him i don't see scientist, or grade school teacher.
(thank)
I hope he writes some Doctor Who episodes
👊 MY Bump
Very insightful and enjoyable, although slightly concerned about the trajectory of your mutual relationship...
Hey Joe! great podcast!!!! would you please consider Talking with Daniel Suares?
Good WOC 😃
happy happy happy
I'm on my 4th listen to this book... OMG it's soooo good. But make sure you read/listen to his other two books. The Martian and Artemis!
Joe... this is why we love you here in our house.
I adore Andy weir, but I’m sorry…Artemis was kind of a stinker. It belongs in the young adult section. But still happy I read it. Just felt like it was geared for teens.
@@ThePenguin82 I loved the book but I like that kind of murder mystery. It's outside of the writing style of PHM and TM... but still very good.
They’re so good.
When is the movie coming out???
Hail Mary the movie staring Joe as Grace 🤔
How about a book to describe the process of making rockys planet and biology. I think people would read it.
Umm yes I do want the eridians biology book… 😅
Hello 🙋♂ I, for one, would love to know all of the nerdy science details about Rocky and his people. Thank you.
Barlow had guides to aliens and planets from sci-fi novels, FYI, sold well too.
I miss Rocky
GWOC 😃
i would buy a book about the biology of eridians. i wanna know if grace is right. if a specie can be not water based.
When are you going to have Moe the toe on 😂😂😂🙏
I don't know whether to be impressed at Andy's restraint, or disappointed at leaving the obvious joke unsaid, but I waited the entire book for the line "Hail Mary, full of Grace". But it never came. [sigh]
That was GREAT! Thanks, Joe. I would say more, but I have to go poop with somebody...
Hi
ok, pls someone tell me what is the intro music, even if its some stock stuff, i need to know
Neon Dreams by Elena Anisimova (on screen track credit)
@@elmoteroloco "preview" songs are the best genre xD
MOVIE 🎬 MOVIE 🎬
I want this to be a movie so bad I loned this book 📖 it's awesome!
Joe Scott Albertsons Grocery chain heir.
best Alien aver - love U R ocky ;)
Hey Joe! My name is "Randy Sheir" and I just wanted to say that Andy Weir seemed both smarter and funnier than you in this interview.......lol
So why did you sell out Rocky ro Hollywood? Bad, bad. bad.
Does anybody have a clear understanding of what exactly was disclosed June, 2021, surrounding the official congressional report about U.S. Navy evidence on U.A.P. (ufo) activities?
I'd like to hear your take on it, as I didn't know the existence of aliens visiting earth was officially acknowledged by the US government.
Sorry if you think I'm playing a prank. I assure you, I'm dead serious. Maybe nothing of importance came of the military disclosure to US Congress after all?
I'd love to hear your thoughts nevertheless!
My base opinion: speculative crap.
The videos I have seen are unconvincing and are easily explained by mundane phenomena. The Pentagon doesn't necessarily rule out "extraterrestrials" but that's a FAR cry from confirming aliens are visiting Earth.
Hard physical evidence is the arbiter here, not blurry images and videos and a basketful of "maybes".
Let's see a piece of a spacecraft hull. Maybe an alien transistor. Or hell, just aliens trash. Isotope analysis would be sufficient to determine it ain't from around here and is the result of intelligent manufacturing.
That would put an end to it.
I think the alien was Donald Trump. There is a mental asylum in the asteroid belt he's since been returned to. They even made a Twitter clone echo chamber to keep him occupied.
59:50 It's not awesome, they just film a bunch of propaganda there.
This talk quickly got kinda WEIRd.
