  • The Royal Monastery of Santes Creus is a Cistercian monastery located in the region of Alt Camp, in the province of Tarragona, in Catalonia. It was founded in 1168 by King Alfonso I the Chaste and became one of the most important monasteries in Catalonia throughout its history.
The main building of the monastery is the church, built in Gothic style and decorated with Renaissance elements. Inside, the tombs of kings Peter the Great and Jaume II of the Catalan-Aragonese Crown stand out.
The monastery also includes a number of outbuildings, including a cloister, chapter house, armory and refectory. In addition, there is a garden, a fountain and a small chapel dedicated to Saint Bernard of Clairvaux, founder of the Cistercian order.
Currently, the Royal Monastery of Santes Creus is open to the public and can be visited to learn about its history and architecture. In addition, the monastery hosts various cultural activities, such as concerts and temporary exhibitions.
