Your 40 is the only thing they really measure and so that's the most important stat. You can get better at the 40 by running it a LOT. Practice your starts specifically. Its hard for people to gain "top end" speed....but you can easily shave a couple tenths off your 40 by simply perfecting your start. Many people don't do that so I'd start there.

Hey man! I’m looking into being a walk on for my future school (TTU). I’m currently a senior in highschool. I’ve never played football before, I’m a former soccer player. I’ve been told i could be a college kicker, i can consistently kick 40-45 yard field goals, punt with 4.5 - 5 second hangtime. I plan on attending camps to improve my skills over the summer. Any tips?

You say the position you are "trying out for" and then they divide it in to groups and have you go through the drills with your groups (usually skill, big skill, OL/DL, specialists). Then if you make it to the end they will sometimes have you do position-specific drills or just put you at a totally different position entirely on the team in some cases

Hey man, couple questions. Background is I’m a 23 year old junior at an average-below average mountain west d1 school. I haven’t played any organized football in my life but I played basketball in high school. (Took a few gap years before starting college) I’ve recently gotten really into football and have been considering starting to train to walk on my senior year. So 2 questions: a) do you think it’s worth it to train and all that to try and walk on for just one year? Would they even be interested in an inexperienced player with just one year left of eligibility even if I train up so that I perform well at the tryout? Alternatively, is there any kind of eligibility workaround that might let me play longer since I didn’t play fresh-jun? And b) I’m 6’1 210-15 what position should I train then tryout for? Wideout would be my preference but I know most wideouts at the college level are a little leaner than that (although I am a little older so there’s that). Probably too small for tight end? Thanks for the advice and videos man they’re excellent

They probably won't even know unless they directly ask you that question. The only thing they asked me was if I played in high school and under what coach (and it was just conversational, they weren't like questioning me). The walk-on tryout like I always talk about is going to be heavily decided on by your performance at the tryout and your times in the drills they test you on. That's why it's so cool because if you can work your ass off and get amazing times on these drills like the 40 and the shuttle, you usually have a good shot. Hope that helps my man - don't be ashamed of trying ever, keep going!

If you don't make the tryout or get recruitted you're not a walk on....and if you make the team and eventually they kick you off for whatever reason or cut you, then you're back to being not a walk on. @clayraterman  11 місяців тому

I'm not joking when I say this: my whole life was preparation.
I played football my whole life and worked out like a maniac 5-6 days a week from 8th grade on (still do)
Consistent actions over long long time.
specifically for the tryout drills I spent about 3-4 months doing the drills before go time (the summer leading up)

clay raterman I think I got it. We got 6 guys going to the draft, 12 seniors graduating, our head coach just left for Washington state and not many people are signing for my school. The recruiter coaches know me since August and have been watching me ever since. I have weight lifting with all the strength and conditioning coaches so they see my position in the weight room. Both conditioning coaches say I can make it, we just gotta see how it goes in February🤷🏽‍♂️

@@Flapjack624 That's great! got a lot of things going in your favor, but that doesn't mean stop working and trying to increase your skills, strength, grades, etc...Try to control what you can and focus on how YOU can get better everyday, not the situation that's going on at the school or resting on the fact you think you got it. Stay focused and go make it happen!

Answered you on the DM's! But yes you can be a walk on as an undergrad .... that's typically the only way to start! As long as you've not enrolled in 12 or more credit hours before and used your eligibility up then you should be fine. Check my eligibility video out.
