Bohemian Rhapsody is one PTX cover that really surprises a lot of people. First off, it's an iconic song by Queen, and no one can really match that. But Pentatonix does what is IMO the best cover I've ever heard - and they do it a cappella! Kevin has said that he tried to duplicate the original drum track as much as possible, and I think he did a pretty amazing job! And Mitch's wah-wah guitar always shocks people - the megaphone is just a prop for the video, as he does it with just a mic when they perform the song live. But overall, they kept the feel of the original song very well, and it's a major tribute to Queen and PTX on how well it sounds. FYI - I know that PTX can be very difficult to react to, as getting it past the copyright blocks seems to be a major undertaking. For me, the blacked-out video box doesn't add anything to the reaction. Some people may be able to see something in it, but for me, it's just a black screen with very occasional flashes that might be movement, but it's not helpful. I don't know if you can tone it down so that there is some vestige of the original video showing, but if not, a still picture would be just as entertaining and informative. Just my $0.02 - take it for what it's worth (not much, LOL!)
If you're wanting to hear more of Avi and his amazing vocal range you should check out He Don't Love You Right. Very emotional and powerful song. All of his solo stuff is AMAZING too!
This is one of the videos where you can see that Kevin has a whole invisible drum kit. He'll reach out with an invisible drumstick to hit an invisible drum and you'll hear the drum sound. You know the sound came directly from him, but you just saw him hit the drum, so it must be from the drum, right? It quickly becomes surreal. This is one of the things I like most about Kevin - he can make me see the drums that aren't there.
It's odd to hear you say Scott is a background vocalust, usually, lol. It just happens to be the selections you've heard. Most reactors say "so, Scott is like the lead vocalist, right?" And we have to scramble to say they don't technically have a lead. They all get their featured songs, and some songs feature them one by one, like Hallelujah, Imagine, and Amazing Grace, as examples where they clearly each take a verse. That being said, the majority of the time, Scott goes first and/or sings lead. He's also more outgoing than the others, so he usually takes the lead on stage as master of ceremonies and is the instigator of the group. Pentatonix was originally his and Ben Bram's idea (Ben often collaborates on their arrangements and recordings behind the scenes). Scott is extremely versatile, as he is technically a baritone, but he can sing from bass to tenor and also has a good falsetto. He is the king of vocal runs, and sings with a lot of soul, but he can adapt his style. For a good intro to Scott's vocals, I suggest Havana, New Rules x Are You That Somebody, and The Prayer, to give you a variety. Great reaction! Bohemian Rhapsody is one of their most iconic covers.
For Pentatonix, and a cappella in general, you have two parts. You have the main vocalists, Scott, Mitch, & Kirstie, and then you have the rhythm section, Kevin and Avi/Matt. The rhythm section lays down the bass and percussion foundation to provide the song’s support. By definition, the rhythm section has fewer vocals as they are busy providing this support. There is no main lead singer or soloist. The song and arrangement dictates who is in the lead. Many times they all take turns with the leads and the backup in the same song. They recognize that the backups are just as important to the songs as the leads. Scott probably has most of the leads. When he lets loose, he is a beast. Kirstin is my favorite in the band. I love when she has the lead, but her backup support is creative and wonderful sounding. They are always mixing it up. In You’re A mean one Mr. Grinch, Matt has the lead while Scott does the bass. Mitch and Kirstie provides incredible jazzy backup support. Recommend their cover of Mad World.
Watch Thank You. This is an original composed (during lockdown) by Scott and his partner, and it's absolutely beautiful. As such, Scott is the lead singer and the (very rare) pianist. In fact, Scott tends to take lead more than the other singers (Radioactive, Sing, Mad World, Amazing Grace etc etc), or at least is often the first soloist, as with Hallelujah or Sound Of Silence. One of the strengths of Pentatonix though is that they are all soloists in their own rights and the lead is regularly rotated to whoever best suits the song being performed. They are also spectacular where there are no leads, such as Run To You or Dreams.
Every reactor gets a different idea of which Pentatonix member(s) get the most leads, based on which videos they watch first. For more Scott-central songs, try "Happy Now" (a Pentatonix original), "New Rules x Are You That Somebody" (Dua Lipa x Aaliya /Timbaland cover), or "Perfect" (Ed Sheeran cover)
Scott is often considered by reactors as the lead vocalist. This is because in most songs he is the lead and if he is not he starts almost every song. Ptx maintains that they don't have a lead vocalist. You just happened to be lucky enough to hear songs where Scott wasn't in the foreground. Thank you for your good reaction.
Mesmerizing is a perfect way to describe Mitch’s voice. Also, I just want to say that you state one reason for your channel is to better your English, but it’s very good already! Maybe you should school us in Deutsch!
You need to react to some of Avi's solo work (he left PTX in 2017 and now has a solid solo career). Most reactors begin with his most successful song so far, "Change on the Rise", released in March 2019. For something recent, you can check out the live studio version of his original "When I'm a Fool" recorded at Sunset Sound, or, for a very different vibe, the solo version of his song "All Is Well", recorded in a church in Utrecht, Netherlands by 7 Layers Sessions during his second European tour this last Spring. Beautiful.
Their cover of Shallow features Scott and Kirstie though the emphasis I believe ends up on Kirstie. Scott is the lead in their cover of Problem, and while they all get a piece Scott has more of a piece in Can't Hold Us.
Avi has an amazing voice that is capable of breaking speakers...which he has done a number of times. To hear him sing try Run To You and original written by Avi and Kevin. Also, Standing By. I think it's an original and although there is no official video, there is a video of it at a concert. Another is Light In The Hallway, written by Scott for his ( at that time) newborn nephew. Again no official video but there is a lyric video of it. For a double shot of amazement, check out Aha at the Star Vista. It's a fan made video, so not perfect. Both Avi and Mitch will shock you!! There's a few things to note about this BoHoRap video...the couch is a nod to the really early years of the group when they'd lost their contract with Sony ( that they'd won for the Sing-Off competition) and decided to keep going without any record deal. They'd all gather on one of the couches in their apartments and record themselves doing a cover and post it on UA-cam. The other thing...Mitch doesn't need that megaphone to do the guitar solo. He does it live at concerts without it and it makes no difference.
@@Gwennedd The only other song I can think of in PTX's catalog that's *almost* as strange is "White Winter Hymnal," which appears to be a catchy little tune about, um, decapitation?! But weird or not, at least the words of "White Winter Hymnal" can be deciphered without a video depiction (good thing, too - I can't imagine how they could make such a video, though I'm sure they'd come up with something creative if they had to).
You'll find, as your list of PTX videos that you've watched grows, that Scott has sung the lead in quite a lot of their songs, but, they seem to let the songs dictate who will sing the lead. Also, in most songs where most or all of them sing a solo part, Scott will usually lead things off. I know of another group (they sing classical, opera & pop songs) where their baritone usually starts things off, so it might just be because Scott's a baritone. Just an observation. Enjoyed your reaction. Already looking forward to more PTX reactions from you. Thanks.
Avi is pronounced Ah'-vee (emphasis on the first syllable), not Ay'-vee. Kirstin is KIRstin, not KRIstin. The easy way to remember is that she's also called Kirstie, which rhymes with thirsty.
Please react to PENTATONIX New rules x Are you that somebody. You'll see Scott take more of a lead on this song. It's so good. ua-cam.com/video/fC8gutkCu1c/v-deo.html

React to Imagine. Avi and Kevin both sing in it. You get to hear everyone.

Yup, I like to say Scott is the anchor or heart of the group. Their chemistry and energy all together is unmatched and otherworldly.

The first part that you said was exactly what I was trying to say but I didn't find the right words for it😂

They spent all night filming this outside and had to finish before the sun came up.
Brian May from Queen approved of this cover.

Gotta love the low cost special effects on this, I mean, flashlights? Really? Yep, really, and they're perfect. 😂

Before he watches "Aha Singapore the Star Vista" he really needs to watch their official video for "Aha!" - it's the only way the song makes sense.
@@margretrosenberg420, true. It is a rather weird song. I checked out the lyrics and they make almost no sense!

React to The Sing-Off Season 3, Pentatonix got their start on that. It is well worth your time and you can see how they progress.
