Amazing song. One can feel the desperate situation of the 62th Army, Tshuikow and his men and the civilians in the city. The Battle of Stalingrad was the most dramatic battle in the history of Mankind.

Thank you for your commnent. Its not easy to listen to song with duration of 6 min. One must sit down and try to feel the music. We sometimes forget, that Red army choir is not just great marching songs, but also songs about passion and dedication. Not everyone is able to undestand and appreciate this fact. Thank you again.

It is a very touching song, reaching to the most profound depths of a human hearth and soul. Would you be as so kind as to post the lirics? Thank you very much, with respect to you, our Slavic brothers, from Slovenija.

Hey I know its been like 11 years since you asked this question, but here are the english lyrics:
There is a cliff on the Volga, well known, with wild moss it's overgrown
From the very edge up to the peak.
And it stands hundreds of years, only green moss it wears,
Neither care it knows, nor need.
And it stands hundreds of years, only green moss it wears,
Neither care it knows, nor need.

On the top of the cliff, there is nothing can live
Only free wind upon it is blowing.
Mighty eagle it's nest set up on the crest
And there it's victims it's mauling.
Mighty eagle it's nest set up on the crest
And there it's victims it's mauling.

Only one man is known, was on that cliff alone,
Just one reached the top, not in vain.
And the cliff has never forgotten that man,
And since then it carried his name.

And to this day stand a cliff and it keeps
      All cherished thoughts of Stepan,
And with Volga alone it remembers sometime
      Swashbuckling life of ataman
And with Volga alone it remembers sometime
      Swashbuckling life of ataman

Let us please, for the love of humanity, set aside our differences and understand that we must co-exist for fear of destruction. If not we are domed to make the same mistakes of the people before us.

You speak of fear from destruction. But who were the ones who paraded around Berlin raping innocent women, who were the ones cutting the arms from inoculated children in Vietnam, who were the ones bombing civilians in Afghanistan who didn’t see the Soviet way. Communism is the root of evil, Liberty and justice for all not just for the government🇺🇸

This is a great and passionately sung song. It is so good to read all the other appreciative comments from others here. I listen to The Red Army Choir often and love so many of their heartfelt songs.

Your English is great and indeed, Russian (and Ukranian) music I find just has such feeling in it, it's quite rare for me at least to find stuff so powerful anywhere else, long live such music and countries.

Slight nitpick: The Battle of Stalingrad was only roughly 270 years after Razin's rebellion, not 400.

You are simply missing the point, in that film Stalin listened to this very song as his fellow soldiers in Stalingrad did. Plus putitng this nonsence about killing quotas is much greater bad taste. Your claim has no trustworthy historical background.

@Southern661 Not really, WWII cost the USSR 25 to 30 million lives. Stalin's rule saw the deaths of about 20 million people.

So you wanna tell me, that Stalin just one morning got up and said to hiself, "Its time to kill some Ukrainians - lets say 6 million? Well, why not?" Dont get me wrong, Im not dennying that there were victims of stalininst regime, but I refuse to believe those exact numbers and Im little suspicious about reasons, why would Stalin ordered that thing.
