Ordinary Christians' outrage at blasphemy is a powerful message. It was unexpected in some quarters. It's news. Pope's speaking out against blasphemy is not news, it's entirely what the world expects them to do. We shouldn't expect the Pope to have a take on all controversies, especially those where discernment is a no-brainer.
@carmelolopez413 The pope should be using his platform to bring people to Christ and holding the world accountable and rebuking them when it's needed, such as this case. Sitting there only as a figurehead of the church is a waste for a position such as his.

I'm conflicted on this one. We just had the enormous blessing of the National Eucharistic Congress. I've seen so many catholics on social media who didn't post or promote anything about the Congress, yet they immediately jumped on this with the last supper on their banners and all. We're so quick to condemn but we don't promote the good things going on in the church. I didnt attend the Congress, but it was a beautiful experience to have a week of positivity and beautiful catholic content that made me so proud of being catholic. I understand the mockery, but they ridiculed themselves. It was gross and we should've laughed at them for such a dumb attempt instead of getting offended. They'll get what they deserve. It was an obvious provocation and we gave them more attention than they deserved. Had we been this vocal on promoting something like the Eucharistic Congress (just as an example), it would have been an even bigger blessing of spreading good news instead of this garbage. Now we are back at hating the Pope for not giving in to this garbage. We have this backwards. Once again we're showing our famous hypocritical side to the world.
I relate to you on this. I understand your point of view on this. And i also wonder like why should the Pope adress the negativity of it when God already showed himself and answered by the power outage where only the Sacre-Coer was in light. Isn't that enough of a statement that the pope should leave it further in Gods hands and he and everyone of us should fight the spiritual battle further on our knees in prayer and not give anymore attention to the enemy?
I was asking myself when this happened, why isn't the Pope coming out and condemning that disgusting opening ceremony. Cheers Rosemary Western Australia 73yrs
Four quick points: 1. Younger generations expect more comments on current events than older people. They grew up with newspapers and books. We have Twitter. It's likely his sense of urgency isn't ours. 2. It's July when Rome is nearly shut down. To get a statement out about the poor or peace is much easier to do well in advance of publishing. I bet he's working with a skeleton crew who very well might not have informed him nor are available to help craft a response worthy of a pope. None of us like his off-the-cuff efforts, so we cant have it both ways in July. 3. Anyone who thinks the pope's "silence = complicity" or somehow approve of the ceremony is just crazy. We hate it when people pull that on us. Let's not use it on the Holy Father. We can easily guess the pope's take on this. 4. Michael is still right in everything he said in this video. It would be better to hear from the pope at this time than hear nothing. I hope Pope Francis says something soon.
@@wendyphoenix Why do you need feel the need to publicly call out what you perceive as short comings? Do you really think that drive is coming from the Holy Spirit? Does it come fromm your prayer?
You know who doesnt need excuses to cover himself? Our sinless and TRULY INFALLIBLE Jesus Christ, thats who. You appointed a man as your king rather than your true king in heaven. and you will face punshment for your false idolotry
I don't know that I would expect him to address it directly. However, he could release a generic statement about mockery of Christianity in general. For example, one of our priests addressed the Olympics in his Homily this weekend by saying we cannot ignore this sort of disrespect (intended or not) but at the same time we cannot resort to violence or hatred of these people who are allowing themselves to be used as tools of the devil. We need to pray for them. I say let's make it very public that we're praying for them; they'd probably hate that. lol
Even a generic statement would go a long way at this point. I recall he spoke up against mocking Islam, but I'm not seeing the same when it comes to mocking Christianity.
@@ReasonandTheologylove your take in this michael. This just goes to show that you call out the pope when he needs calling out, but at the same time defend against any dissent
Pope Francis has got to address this, the disgusting prideful mockery of our Lord's Last Supper. Pope Francis is likely filled with anger for this, and if he is not, he needs to be! The only reason I could think as to why he has not addressed this yet, considering it’s world wide news, is that he is waiting for the right time. He does not want to stir up conflict.
Interesting fact that could prove it was the Last Supper and not the Feast of Dionysus. In the Last Supper you can see a semicircle as the interior element below the ceiling and seven wooden beams spreading from it (draw the lines in mind). It creates the effect of the crown above Jesus. In the Olympics the woman had exactly the same crown, a semicircle with seven beams (count, it's the same number - 7). There is no Christian martyr crown in the Feast. Besides, they love crowns. The witch gave a black martyr thorn crown to the special winner in the Eurovision. For all the suffering. It was the Last Supper mocked and perverted out of pride and victimhood. Christianity is being targeted.
I agree. The Holy Father has spoken pretty freely on other societal issues that he feels are relevant and, this issue is certainly one that should be addressed. As a security professional I can certainly say that perceived weakness will only be met with hostility and further attempts to push this sinful agenda.
If this mockery and blasphemy had been hurled at Islam or Mohammed Paris would by now be burned to the ground. Shame on Pope Francis and the Vatican for not making a public statement to the world and its 1.4 Billion Catholics. Shame on you for not defending the Church that Jesus entrusted to your Holy care. He who has not sinned cast the first stone. I am sure you are a sinner yourself correct and have displeased God many times same as these performers. That is why the Pope does not condemn. Jesus died for all of us as we are ALL SINNERS. We do not have the moral high ground to condemn fellow sinners.
@@wendyphoenix God is love. Very different from Islam where anger and violence is the response. They / them are still the children of God where patience and forgiveness is the appropriate response.
@@JT-wo4fs The Pope is acting as a leader by not responding with ANGER. They / them are the children of God, our brothers and sisters. We should find a way to open their hearts rather than condemn and shower them with anger.
It’s rare that I disagree. He’s the Holy Father. He’s the one with the special anointing as Head. It’s nobody’s office to say how he should lead. I believe he’s way deeper and spiritually engaged in the battle than most are aware. Silence speaks volumes, especially when one is personally being targeted. Pope Francis, like Christ, speaks out in defense of the helpless but ignores the attacks and slanders against himself. Christ did not respond to mockery. Does such blatant, ridiculous, foolishness deserve a response? Christ speaks to those who are seeking truth. This deserves only to be ignored, but I wouldn’t be surprised at all if the Holy Father is making reparation and begging God’s mercy for so many deceived children.
@smithcatholicart3450 Wow. God bless you. Beautiful comment !!!! You have revealed the true beauty of Christ, the pope, and His Church. And the beauty of this comment brought tears to my eyes. thank you.
If this was a minor "kerfuffle" involving only US Catholics, or dissenting nuns, or German bishops maybe silence wd be warranted --he can't speak out on every issue that arises and I understand that. However this impacts the world-wide church and even secular people and non-Christians are generally negatively responding to this fiasco.
He must say something about the blasphemy that unfolded at the Olympics. " We didn't start the fire; it was always burning." And we need to put it out.
This has me really thinking about how we should react when the world does things like this. I'm really considering the question of why Pope Francis needs to comment on this? Is he a culture warrior? Does the Church exist to counter culture? I thought we are Christians to know God and tell others about His goodness and love and how He sent his Son, Jesus, to die for our sins so that we can be reconciled to Him and live a life filled with joy. Do we now consider protesting people and events as evangelization? Is being mocked going to harm our faith? Our Lord set the example of being mocked without rebuttal, but all I'm hearing is people wanting Christians to lash out like Peter with a metaphorical sword to cut off the ear of those who persecute us. If Pope Francis addresses this, who will it satisfy? If he comes out against them, some will say it's not enough. If he reminds us of the example of our Lord, some will say he's weak. Lord, forgive them. They don't know what they're doing. Save us from the fires of hell, especially those in most need of your mercy.
The Pope is not required to personally address every issue. The Church's stance can be effectively communicated through designated officials or statements from the relevant Vatican departments.
I think it would be extremely important if he publicly came out and condemned it. Otherwise how can you see your flock mocked so ruthlessly without saying a word?
Maybe it's because Pope Frances is not driven to generate content, unlike UA-camrs, and wisely knows that one of the best ways to deal with foolishness is to ignore it.
Ridiculous. Thats like saying the west should have just ignored Hitler and he would have gone away. The Pope is our leader and is charged with speaking up and tacking actions to protect his flock. Evil feeds and grows upon the silence of good men. It's time for Frances to go.
What if Pope Francis is waiting on God's guidance instead of his own feelings or the advice of his advisors? Maybe he already got a message such as "Wait." Everyone acts like this is 100% in HIS hands instead of 100% in GOD'S hands. Laity, check your hubris. STOP assuming our judgment is the right one. Wait.
I agree with you 100% as a Catholic. I am very disappointed in the pope. I hope he speaks up about this. He needs to defend Christianity and above all our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ.
There's a LOT of blasphemies and a lot of other atrocities involving lives lost... so I'm not really surprised by him not condemning it. The Pope hasn't been very involved with the news cycle and I get the sense they're wary of becoming too Vigano-istic (OR Strickland-ish) about responding to culture war issues.
Very very very very insightful comment and well said. This is bang on. Christ the King and the Pope is bigger than the news cycle and knee jerk reactions to the culture wars. The pope's job is to point to Christ, not react to every crappy and offensive thing that happens in the world.
I have written to the director of the olympic committee. I now intend to look up companies who have withdrawn support to thank them for doing so. Will people join me?
Well Pope Francis is just about to finish his July vacation and he is not yet fully aware of the gravity of the situation. In any case, one should not be suspicious about him and to pray for him with love and obedience.
You beat me to the punch on this topic. Short answer. I wouldn’t hold your breath waiting for a response.😢 But who knows maybe he’ll surprise us like he did all the pope bashers in the 60 min. interview. One can hope.
Wasn't he attending a pagan tribute to one of the Goddesses? Within the Vatican people were bowing down to the Goddess Pachamama at the same time the blasphemy in Paris was displayed. The Pope only took notice because he was pressured.
When the Lord was with Herod, He was silent. Will He remain silent forever? These are the type that like to party. They know they are wrong, st. John the Baptist had made that point very clear, no one is confused. I think the key here is to avoid useless dialectics. That is their destructive game, the swirling vortex of chaos.
While it would be nice for Pope Francis to say something, I’m reminded of something a speaker last night mentioned concerning opinions about stuff like this: “Why are you waiting for someone else to say something? Why are you waiting on someone else’s opinion?” I get that Pope Francis as our shepherd should be upfront on some things, but honestly the amount of people coming out condemning this action seems more than sufficient. If we wait for Pope Francis to comment on everything little that offends Christians and Catholics, he wouldn’t have any time to do his actual duties. He may be praying right now for the people involved in that “performance” to see God’s grace and seek His mercy. He’s probably waiting a bit to consider his words and will release a statement when the time is right, and may be considering the environment and safety of those in Paris. The French are known for revolting and striking over anything, so perhaps he doesn’t want to rile people up as they may take violent action against Olympic athletes, spectators which can include athletes’ families, sponsors, volunteers, workers, etc. Plus, the Olympics are honestly imploding on themselves naturally. People have already been planning on boycotting, and more have not only cause of the opening ceremony but trans athletes, media cover ups, logistical nightmares, woke language policing, etc. Fair to say the Olympics are getting what’s coming to them and Pope Francis will say what he needs to when it’s time.
He doesn't have to. so many of the clergy and other Christians have already responded and he is also not a UA-camr who makes reaction videos on everything that happens on the internet. He's doing just fine is it important to remain in solidarity with our church and not become divisive. It is my belief that the devil encourages people to be hyper-critical of one another and lambaste one another. I believe it's better to adhere to the tenets our Lord gave us. WWJD do in response to the Olympic opening ceremony?
I first and foremost trust in Jesus but kinda feel abandoned by the leader of our Catholic church I have been patient on many other issues but this is ridiculous. Praying every day for Pope Francis.
Yes youre right in your observation but wrong in your conclusion. We are called to imitate Christ I.e. if WE are being mocked for our faith, to preach the Gospel in spite of the slander. We are not called to be silent against blasphemy. Jeremiah in the OT is a good place to see what happens to even the righteous who fail to constraint their country from falling into blasphemy against the Lord. Don't be the silent ones who let your country fall into sin, or you will ALL have to face chastisements.
He also called the hideously corrupt leeches of Pharisees in Jerusalem a "Brood of vipers." I found out about the massive corruption of the Pharisees and went into shock. They were beyond corrupt and taxing the locals in Jerusalem to starvation and supported by the scribes. The reason Jesus said the placed impossible burdens on the people was because the scribes supported the corrupted Pharisees in taxing the locals tostarvation while the Pharisees lived in their bone fide mansions! That's why Jesus exploded! The Pharisees in Jerusalem were so bad the Jewish elders outside Jerusalem did not even regard them as orthodox. Jesus did not speak out to save himself but he spoke out on behalf of the people. The Olympics concerns the PEOPLE. He should speak out. I fear, however, he will be advised not to. Francis is far too dependent on his advisors.
@Angry-80s-Guy You wouldn't last a day, or even less, if you had to deal with Pope Francis' tight schedule! Typing nonsense with a smartphone is easy nowadays! 👎
Just the other day the pope had a diplomatic meeting at Santa Marta. Since he obviously doesn't watch the olympics he most likely doesn't know about it and is too busy.
You are absolutely correct. He should speak up. If he can talk with comedians, lecture us about global warming up, etc. Then he should definitely expand o this blasphemy.
Pope Francis knows what's going on there. He's prudent and will make a statement if he needs to. Having worked in the front office of a 4 star Coast Guard Admiral - Commandant of the Coast Guard, I know Pope Francis has advisors that are providing him sufficient details. Jesus exercised prudence as well.

@@AnnmarieBlair maybe he's letting those who condemn and brand him do it. It's like he's delegating the duty to those who hate and criticise the Catholic Church.
The short answer: he's connected to the circles running these productions. The even shorter answer: he doesn't care. People at his level are so cut off from the travails of the masses that they barely notice us, much less the problems we encounter. It isn't until they want something from us that they condescend to ask what's on our minds. Even then, they forget about us the moment that they get what they want.
Our Lord went out of His way to speak the truth, even when it was controversial. Turning the other cheek doesn't mean you hide in silence. It means you walk up, openly face the adversary, and present your other cheek in the spirit of truth, peace and love.
You may want to look at the context of Jesus's silence. His speaking is why they crucified him, he took a whip to people in the temple. This is basic study of the Gospels. Read them, it will change your life.
“When silence is a form of betrayal” - Ruth Berzins That phrase "no action is still an action" stayed with me over the years because I had often thought of staying silent as a way of keeping the peace. Yet to stay silent when I am witnessing harm is not an act of peace. Not when someone else’s trust or safety is being violated. The image of the three monkeys who see no evil, hear no evil and speak no evil is familiar to many of us. If we pretend that we don’t notice or have no knowledge of the harm that is occurring, we somehow feel less responsible for its existence.
“The best revenge is not to be like your enemy.” - Marcus Aurelius Seeking revenge often leads to a cycle of negativity, where one hurtful action begets another. By choosing not to mimic the behavior of those who insult you, you break this cycle and demonstrate moral superiority. Your response should reflect your own values, not the negativity of others. Refraining from revenge does not mean passivity. It means actively choosing to respond with dignity and self-control. This choice not only preserves your inner peace but also sets a positive example for others. By embodying the Stoic principle of forbearance, you show that true strength lies in maintaining your character, regardless of others’ actions. When faced with insults, let your behavior be guided by wisdom and virtue. Rise above pettiness and anger, and show that you are governed by principles, not emotions. This approach not only protects your tranquility but also helps you grow as a person.

Absolutely The Hope Father should stand up for his Flock!!!’
I have wondered this too, why is he silent?
💯👏👏👏
I was asking myself when this happened, why isn't the Pope coming out and condemning that disgusting opening ceremony. Cheers Rosemary Western Australia 73yrs
He should say something!
I agree.
Four quick points:
Keep on making excuses for him.

@@wendyphoenixIf he feared Jesus, he wouldn't be blessing sin
Yes, I completely agree that he should speak out. I have been waiting for him to comment publicly.
Not to mention the obvious fact that there were 12 people - a reference to the apostles.

@@antoniopera6909 no there were not 12 people.
The feast of Dionysus?
I don't know any painting called that way.
He absolutely needs to comment - it may already be too late!!!
I agree. The Holy Father has spoken pretty freely on other societal issues that he feels are relevant and, this issue is certainly one that should be addressed. As a security professional I can certainly say that perceived weakness will only be met with hostility and further attempts to push this sinful agenda.
Yes, yes. I want the holy descendant of Peter to say something rather than keep silent on this important matter.
Please speak up for our Awesome God.
If this mockery and blasphemy had been hurled at Islam or Mohammed Paris would by now be burned to the ground.
Shame on Pope Francis and the Vatican for not making a public statement to the world and its 1.4 Billion Catholics.

He who has not sinned cast the first stone. I am sure you are a sinner yourself correct and have displeased God many times same as these performers. That is why the Pope does not condemn. Jesus died for all of us as we are ALL SINNERS. We do not have the moral high ground to condemn fellow sinners.

Absolutely. Praying and hoping...🙏🏻😔
And the beauty of this comment brought tears to my eyes. thank you.
True❤
Lovely. However, the slander is not against himself but against Christ.
It’s crucial that he addresses this. If he does not it’s a dereliction of his duty.
Cuz the pope defends that type of behavior and forgets about every catholic all over the world
The pope's silence is extremely loud...!!!
The silent of the Pope
If I'm not mistaken, I thought the.pope put his stamp of approval on homosexual lifestyle and same sex "marriage".
Agree 100%
Beautifully spoken
The Pope is not required to personally address every issue. The Church's stance can be effectively communicated through designated officials or statements from the relevant Vatican departments.
I don't agree. If it was the same mockery and blasphemy of Mohammed or Islam, Paris would have been burned to the ground by now.
I think it would be extremely important if he publicly came out and condemned it. Otherwise how can you see your flock mocked so ruthlessly without saying a word?
It is not is flocks But Jesus Christ
Totally agree.
Maybe it's because Pope Frances is not driven to generate content, unlike UA-camrs, and wisely knows that one of the best ways to deal with foolishness is to ignore it.
That's precisely my point!
Ridiculous. Thats like saying the west should have just ignored Hitler and he would have gone away. The Pope is our leader and is charged with speaking up and tacking actions to protect his flock. Evil feeds and grows upon the silence of good men. It's time for Frances to go.
Yes he has to speak.
Ill give Pope Francis the judgement of charity that he doesn’t know. Any anxiety is wasted time if he does publicly condemn it later.
What if Pope Francis is waiting on God's guidance instead of his own feelings or the advice of his advisors? Maybe he already got a message such as "Wait."
Everyone acts like this is 100% in HIS hands instead of 100% in GOD'S hands.

Wasn't he attending a pagan tribute to one of the Goddesses? Within the Vatican people were bowing down to the Goddess Pachamama at the same time the blasphemy in Paris was displayed. The Pope only took notice because he was pressured.
False.

I love to watch the Blue Collar Catholic. He is so simple and clear and loving. I love the peace I get from watching him.
While it would be nice for Pope Francis to say something, I’m reminded of something a speaker last night mentioned concerning opinions about stuff like this: “Why are you waiting for someone else to say something? Why are you waiting on someone else’s opinion?”
I get that Pope Francis as our shepherd should be upfront on some things, but honestly the amount of people coming out condemning this action seems more than sufficient.
Thank you Sir❤
He doesn't have to. so many of the clergy and other Christians have already responded and he is also not a UA-camr who makes reaction videos on everything that happens on the internet.
He's doing just fine is it important to remain in solidarity with our church and not become divisive.
It is my belief that the devil encourages people to be hyper-critical of one another and lambaste one another. I believe it's better to adhere to the tenets our Lord gave us.

I first and foremost trust in Jesus but kinda feel abandoned by the leader of our Catholic church I have been patient on many other issues but this is ridiculous. Praying every day for Pope Francis.
Jesus said nothing when He was mocked and beaten.
He also called the hideously corrupt leeches of Pharisees in Jerusalem a "Brood of vipers."
I found out about the massive corruption of the Pharisees and went into shock.

I'm certain he does not have good advisers. That much has been apparent throughout this pontificate.

After the Olympics, if he does choose to say anything. For now focus on athletes.
Maybe he thinks he should behave like Jesus when He was mocked-remaining silent.
Our Lord went out of His way to speak the truth, even when it was controversial. Turning the other cheek doesn't mean you hide in silence. It means you walk up, openly face the adversary, and present your other cheek in the spirit of truth, peace and love.
I think he does think this but Jesus also called sinners to repentence. I pray for prudence for PF every day.
You may want to look at the context of Jesus's silence.
His speaking is why they crucified him, he took a whip to people in the temple.
This is basic study of the Gospels. Read them, it will change your life.
“When silence is a form of betrayal” - Ruth Berzins
That phrase "no action is still an action" stayed with me over the years because I had often thought of staying silent as a way of keeping the peace.
“The best revenge is not to be like your enemy.” - Marcus Aurelius
Seeking revenge often leads to a cycle of negativity, where one hurtful action begets another.
