I'm loosing my eyesight and I appreciate these audiobooks. Thank you.
Glad to know they’re helpful. Best wishes to you
Great narration. Enjoyed the story. These audio books are a comfort for me because, my arthritic hands make it difficult to hold books, and turn pages. I'm sure I'm not alone. Thankyou
Glad you liked it Rosanna. Cheers.
You are not alone. I HAVE BAD EYESIGHT SO THESE AUDIOBOOKS ARE GREAT XX
Beautiful comment🌸
Lucky you can type.
you should try a kindle!:D
Greg Wagland is a wonderful narrator. Very talented. Just a perfect reading that does this terrific little spooky story great justice. Thank you so very much! From down under! 👇💜🙃
Another masterpiece of voice acting by Greg Wagland. Thank you Greg. Keep going!!!
He does have a marvellous voice. Lovely gift.
I found this video only a couple of hours ago and I have already listened to the story three times! I never realised how much I am missing out on due to my obnoxiously unyielding realistic view of the world - now I feel completely enthralled by magic. All thanks to one little story read by a voice actor just as talented as the writer. Seriously, this is insanely captivating. Thank you so much for sharing this with us, I will definitely be going through all the other stories on your channel!
Thanks for your comment Alex. Appreciated. Belatedly appreciated!
His reading of Sherlock Holmes is far better than all the apparent famous people that have read it!
( & now charge for hearing their inferior narration!)✊
You can be unyieldingly realistic and have an imagination/enjoy works of fiction. It's not like you have to be a hopeless dreamer/romantic escapist to appreciate the magic of stories :)
This is the creepiest story I've heard Greg read, masterful and chilling
It's truly amazing to think that this story was published almost 130yrs ago. It's aged perfectly. As if it was written not too long ago.
Probably written, first published and read next week! That sort of story. Really well read! Thank you for making the effort!
Beautifully read! I thoroughly enjoyed the narrator's pace, timbre, and intonation.
amsterdamsel he’s a master
@@tubescott71 I am not lying on the bu
That's Greg Wagland, who also reads the Holmes stories.
Yeah me too, I (finally) found a good narrator. Time to relax.... I used to listen to a lot of American mysterious and 'true' stories, but I'm sick of the narrators and the stories. This is so much better!
Great voice, reminded me of "The Equalizer" EdwRd Woodward.
You’re voice is as hypnotic and captivating as the story. So pleased I happened upon this. You now have a fan in Virginia Beach!
Amazingly read, I love how you slowly create the atmosphere of unease and sinisterness.
This is wonderful.
Perfect story for a cold autumn day. Thank you ever so much for uploading these wonderful audiobooks.
Personally, I feel O. Henry eclipses all short story authors. But, if you’re a short story reader, an author named Paul Bovino has a collection of a half-dozen or so very powerfully themed short stories on Amazon in an anthology entitled “Something for the Subway.” They’re easy reads and not overly nuanced I remember being greatly moved by the stories when I first read them many years ago, but I understand that there’s an updated edition which I’m a couple of mouse clicks away from ordering.
Enjoyed this story very much; have never heard of it before. Well read. Shopkeeper "had a chin Like the toe cap of a boot " lol 😂
This was nice. I've always heard of H. G. Wells but I never read any of their books before.
Thanks for doing the narration for this book.
Thanks for listening, kairon156
any of his books you mean !
i have been listening to your Sherlock audios books for a long time usually when i am very tired. it is cozy and can close my eyes and enjoy. it takes a long time though because i fall asleep shortly and finding where i left off later on. it is a unique way to consume content but i enjoy it. i decided to try a new author you cover and knew h.g. wells was known as a great author so i gave it a shot. this is the first time i left a comment because even though i was exhausted, i didn't sleep. the story was fascinating and was only enhanced by your talent so much so that i felt it was necessary. so thank you and thank you again for introducing me to another great author. i might of not gotten around to enjoying it if it wasn't for this.
Cheers DannyTilted - much appreciated!
I admire H G Wells' breadth (in his work!). The very unusually named novel of his Tono Bungay is brilliant, IMO, and worth a read or listen.
Now get some sleep.
That's what I do every night!! It's hard to find the last part I remember tho haha
Thx
I oftwn listen to the good Mr. Holmes i the same way.
A wonderful story, and splendidly read! I have enjoyed a lot of H.G. Wells, and I think your voice skills added a great deal to my enjoyment of this particular story.
Thank you!
This was just marvelous. I had never read this story and it is truly unique. Beautifully read and totally fascinating. Please keep making these marvelous audios. Cheers Pat
Thank you! Will do, Pat!
What a fun, well-written story! I guess there is a reason HG Wells is still so popular. Thank you for this magical narration!
Wow, done with astonishing perfection. Thank you very much.
I absolutely loved this. I had not come across this hypnotic tale til now. First class reading of a top hole story!
Another new book to me, really enjoyed the story, beautifully narrated as always, Thank You
Having a story told to me brings such happy memories of my father who was a wonderful story teller. So as we travelled I would ask about next episode and would recount ihe last onet to him. Then I would ask him " What then Pa " and he would tell us the next part. So thank you for a delightful return to precious time. 💗
Marvellous
Greg wagland is a Master at reading these for audio!!!! Love it
Wonderfully read. Thank you. As a child of the 40 and 50-s radio my audio star was David Davies. We have in Britain giants of acting of all forms. Such sweet richness here. How fortunate we all are here!
The Welsh actor?
A wonderful story, and splendidly read! I have enjoyed a lot of H.G. Wells, and I think your voice skills added a great deal to my enjoyment of this particular story.
Thank you! for uploading this book
Glad you enjoyed it! FAB Club!
My grandfather is a magician, so the second I saw this title, I had to give it a listen.
Was not disappointed, and excellent quality if the reading too!
Thankyou X I needed that.. Just at 3:00am with no sleep, I didn't mind once I started listening X
Stay safe all
Xx
Wonderfully narrated. Thank you
Great H.G. Wells story- I was unaware of this work. Thanks for posting it.
Glad you enjoyed it HSA
Thanks for these audio books! I have to walk 2 hrs per day for physio and since November so I've been listening to my mp3 music player over n over but it doesn't do it for me anymore, I got so bored listening to music. Then I found your channel and added some of your audio books to my mp3 and I can listen to them as I walk and it's soo much more interesting! Thanks so much :)) I love your voice btw, it's perfect!! ^^
Ta, Angel.
I too rather listen to stories such as these while I cycle. Time passes much faster and is more enjoyable.
His voice is just so perfect, even enjoy favourite stories much more when read by this amazing narrator.
Left in no doubt that he’s relating what actually happened to him exactly how it took place.✊♥️
I fell in love with H. G. Wells' short stories when I was in my early teens and I thought and still think he was brilliant and so far ahead of his time. Think of his books too - The War of the World's, The Time Machine and The First Men in the Moon.
Excellent story, and very well read.
Many thanks.
I want this to be so much longer than it is! So much potential to become a fantastic novel.
Why not write it?
Thank you so much... As another comment said 'beautifully read'. Shall look out for more books narrated by Greg Wagland.
Thanks CGL
Greg my favourite dude what a lovely surprise. Fabulous..😍
Cheers TW
Thank you very much, most beautifully read, sir. You have perfect timing, the perfect voice. I couldn't do it for the life of me, accordingly, I appreciate your skill.
Excellent voice, I thoroughly enjoyed this, thank you !
I'm going to have nightmares. Narration was excellent.
Lol I’ve been falling asleep to this for nights. Now I’m glad I didn’t make it too far until I was awake
📖📖 Wonderful story with some ambiance, especially toward the end. The narration was enjoyable, too. 📖📖
'Ambiance towards the end', is my middle name, Justin. Cheers.
Love... Thank you!
Very well narrated and a wonderful story. Many thanks!
Thanks for listening, Mrs C
Beautifully read. Thank you. I enjoyed it immensely.
The voice acting was so good that I felt I was inside the creepy magic store and had to turn on my room's light. lol
Sorry about that ;-)
Please forward the bill for any extra electricity you consumed due to my acting.
:-)

I was sucked into the world also
What a fantastic listen. I usually fall asleep while listening to audio then having to
try to find where I left off the following night but this one kept me awake as It was just long enough to get me off to sleep as I notice a few other of your H.G.Wells are. Thank you so much for the wonderful entertainment. I've subbed.
Lovely story, read with skill and artistry of express. Thank you.
Thanks Warrendoe
I think these channels featuring audiobooks are haven for blind persons. 💕
Beautifully read. A rich experience offered in trade for a half hour of my life. Worth the price.
That began as just "more happened in that half hour than in most half hours of media we get". Then it got flowery.
Hiding this below the fold:
A store that sells magic for children.
Not the target market. The price.
Cheer Bruce.
What got flowery? Floury?
Thank you for this. I have to write a report on this short story and decided to listen to it
This was marvelous!! I love magic! Mr. Wagland and Magpie Audio I am indebted to you for your skill and expertise. Thank you💕💕
You got them to add CC, how wonderful for the hard of hearing such as I.
?? No 'CC' on mine.... 😕
Works on my kindle. Had to look for it in options.

Joh, I was so worried that something bad had happened to the little kid, but it all turned out alright in the end
Perfect narration, loved this story as a child,it worried me when my children were young, but now I love it again✊♥️
Have listened to this at least a dozen times, my daughter loves it too👍
Thoroughly enjoyable !! Excellent reading
Great narration, excellent production - a great story by one of the Greats, thanks :)
Beautiful stories, beautifully read. Thank you.x
So well done! Thank you!
Loved it.
Thank you for uploading ...very very enjoyable and a beautifully read story.
Thanks Silvana. Nice of you to say so!
...."it's amazing what people bring in with them".👹
I enjoyed this so much.
Wells slyly pulls the reader in to share this discomforting, cleverly crafted tale with his occasional appeals: "well, you know, what would you do?"
How simply he writes it, almost like a children's story, yet it's impossible to ignore the uneasiness building behind it.
The ending is perfect - perfectly wrapped up, yet not.
Fabulous narration!
Wow so beautifully read. So expressive and clear, feeding the imagination of the listener but not dominating and what a lovely piece of writing,
Reminded me of a radio 4 version of "Sometimes children....."
Thank you for your performance Mr Wagland
if you ever want to do another short Wells. "The Chronic Argonauts" which came a while before "the time machine"
might suit well.
A true classic. How could anyone TD this?
I read this when I was a little boy in school. Brought back memories and the same feeling of pleasure.
Glad you enjoyed it, KGD.
wow - done in 2017 - a really real new one. and a new story for me - loved it - thanks! :}
Yes, couple of weeks ago. Might do some more when time allows!
i had to read an audio book for english and i didn’t want to read a longggg book so this saved me. thank you❤️
You're so welcome!
perfect example of how children have such curious minds full of wonder … and adults only care about bills. lol
You say that like adults are villains. It's because life and society demand so much of you that there's not much left.
Karen Carpenter thank you so much Karen Carpenter - the name of one of my all time favorite singers , and now, a very kind hearted, open minded, splendid person. The world is lucky to have you
Being w/a child who is full of wonder in their mind & eyes full of curiosity.... will open everything anew for us adults.....if only we take the time to enjoy it ourselves!
Case of having to pay bills sadly x
The adults are trapped in this way intentionally because the bad forces too know magic
Binding magic is what is used to trap the souls of adults.
Exquisit! Thank you.
Absolutely enjoyed your narration, perfect for the story.
You know the only problem with you narrating this video, is that it makes it too real and this story is just plain creepy! Felt like I was there. I wanted to throw something at that shop keeper. Lol.
It is a bit creepy!
Yeah, I felt like I’d been there. I’d love to go there with my husband and daughter, two magic enthusiasts, especially it’s free🤣🤣🤣👍👍👍
@@swkoppable that sounds great
Beautiful wonderful narration! Nice voice great tale

Thank you Jasmin. Malaysia, now that sounds delightful and magical. Warmer too! Cheers.
Absolutely loved this story, and your narration was superb!
I have M.E and am bedbound a lot of the time, don't even have the strength to read, so these are a real blessing.
I have subscribed!
Cheers Roxanne. UA-cam is a box of delights in many ways.
All the best!
Great story, it gripped my attention from the start and so well told.
Thanks Francis
Thanks for such a wonderful story 😊
Pleasure, Tami!
How wonderful. Thoroughly enjoyed this new to me story. I thought I had read all the H.G. Wells stories available, but , obviously I missed this excellent story. I wish current authors were able to write such fine stories. What do you know, an excellent work without any interruptions of the plot for soft core porn.
To be honest, I was rather nervous about the ending. I've read Brian Frond and Alan Lee's book on Faeries, and was worried that the real child had been spirited away and replaced with a doppleganger, in accordance to local folklore.
There is a TV version, probably from the 60's, and as I recall the kid just vanished entirely.
Outstanding, Sir, thank you
Thanks for saying so! Cheers
Thank you
Thanks Greg🌷🕊
Read this one awhile back. Fun story and great job with the narration here. Thanks for posting.
