The most surprising part to me is that many people live there on less than 40k. With the high rent prices and high cost of goods, there doesn't seem to be a lot of disposable income. After a certain age its kinda looked down upon to still share living space with people, but it seems common for people in London to be 30 + and still have flatmates. It seems impossible to build a family there.
I'll never understand the appeal of living check to check in a rat race just for the sake of saying I live in London,NYC, Paris etc.
There are plenty of midsized cities that still have great jobs and amenities without the horrible commute and low standards of living.

Right now I live in Zurich and I feel like my city is not offering me what I need. I am thinking about moving to London, because it has so many more opportunities. It's just the crowdedness and chaos, which is so appealing. Also the number of jobs and the feeling of aliveness a chaotic city can give you.

As a person who has lived in central london for 20+ years, i can confirm that everything you said is correct. London is a playground for the rich, if you are not part of the 1% of top earners in the country, or have a clear path to becoming a top earner. you are going to have a bad time.
My advice is live in a warm/hot country where crime rate is low and you can have a decent life with an avarage wage.

I find your comments very interesting. The areas you've lived in probably consist of mostly rented properties, with a transient population, there would be a greater sense of community in owner occupier areas. As already mentioned, you are never far from a park or green space in London, where you can be alone. I think you have to find a way to make London work for you, once you find that way, you will see how great London can be.

I’ve lived in many capital cities and I have found London to have a unique vibe which can’t be replicated elsewhere. If it’s a tranquil, gentle pace of life with lots of fresh air which you are looking for, try the suburbs or the surrounding countryside. My folks love it! I moved out of London 2 years ago to Manchester. Love it here. I always hated it in London, abusive toxic people. People in Manchester are much more outgoing, there's more confluence of people and situations. To give an example, when you're on the tram you feel like you're part of a community. Manchester has under 3 million people. London in the M25 has about 16 million +. Every city in England is smaller which = better.
If you know what's good for you get out of London.
Actually now during covid a lot of people are moving out and working online. It's about time. Covid has decentralised the whole work life family balance.

Approximately 47% of the area of Greater London is green so if you can't find a park or green space nearby you must be very unlucky. Of course the closer you want to live to the centre of a city the more prohibitively expensive it becomes, that doesn't just apply to London that's a capital city thing. The outer suburban areas are cheaper (not as cheap as other towns and cities naturally) but certainly liveable. And out in the 'burbs the pace is a bit slower and friendlier despite what other people would want you to believe (always room for improvement though).

That thing about people is why I would never live in London - the great thing about many of the northern cities is that they are big enough to give you all the things you would expect to find in a city, but but small enough not to be suffocating. But the real icing on the cake is that you have a much better quality of life and are close to the countryside. I earn good money, but because i live in Manchester I can live like a king....London has never made sense to me, and never will.

Most of those things she listed we are experiencing/have been that way where im from in the Pacific Northwest in the states. Im from Portland. ITs rain and grey 9 months out of the year. Seattle rent price has been brutal for a while, Portland is following right behind them due to the extreme growth of the small city. There's so many people everywhere.
Gentrification happened in a major part of the city.
I am still attracted to living somewhere international one day, mainly due to the work life balance. THings like health care and paid days off in the states is tragic, theres no mandatory amount of paid days off, even if you have so many at a company the amount is a joke compared to other countries. IN the military you get 30 days paid off, which is unheard of as a civilian.
Ive heard nothing but good things about London LOl. Despite living costs

alot of what you speak about could be applied to any big city really but i've lived in both the states and mexico and done a fair bit of traveling in my time and to a large degree i think that british people in general (like the french) generally really don't like strangers a whole lot and would rather not deal with them at all if they don't have to. they also often say that americans being (mostly) polite and helpful towards strangers is indicative of shallowness which i think is simply something they tell themselves in order to feel better about their often rudeness towards people who have done nothing to deserve it.

Interesting video and true in some ways but I think when you are either born in London or become a Londoner , you do get smart at where is good to eat for less and fast. I worked on the Westend shows, so we only had 2 hours between shows to get food, fast and nice! Agree with rents, that also goes for buying in London as I sold our first places fast as the market has always moved in a flash! London is ever changing and it has always been that way. I have lived all over but always end up moving back to my home town of London because everything is so easy and on your door step.

but why would anyone absolutely have to move there? surely you only go there for one reason and not because of the lifestyle? We all know it's terrible. I come from a town about 2hrs away and I have never understood why people live in London. Just live out of the city and commute, if you must.

Some people may look at fun as getting drunk and partying, but I’ve never liked any of those things. Also, even if I was into doing those things, it’s impossible to make friends here because society is socially disconnected. No one gives a damn about anybody.

I think this is very much her personal viewpoint and a generalisation on the whole, yes London has its issues as a growing city of over ten million people and yes pre-covid we have as a major international city lots of tourists who want to visit but its what makes the city thriving and dynamic.
The weather is a somewhat disparaging topic, clearly we brits talk a lot about it as it is very changeable, but we do have hottish summers and we do have seasons, and yes whilst winter does at times seem drawn out, and it can rain a lot-we actually get less rain than parts of Italy-it is rarely very cold/or extremely hot as in parts of the USA or other countries for example as a result of our temperate climate.
Things like air pollution are actively being tackled with congestion and ultra low emission zones and moves to electric vehicles and more cycling. I've used the tube all my life and have very rarely found the anger situation from fellow commuters she speaks of, though like other cities rush hour can be very busy, and there are always countless events going on so if she had an issue with yoga then it may be a very personal situation.
In terms or prices and rent I would have to agree, but then moving out from the central zones and it can be easier to find somewhere a bit more cheaply, again this isn't unique to London most major cities have excessive rents or house prices.

I lived in London 5 months to do an experience and now i'm came back to Italy and i'm very happy to be in my country ^.^
Honestly i hated London(and i won't visit it again),the city is too cold(not for the weather),messy,it's full of drunk people and everyone is rude or asocial.
Well,i drink some saturday night to have fun ok but i saw certain things in that city, for example at 9 a.m. people already drunk in the streets,i was a bit scared because they were violent and the police doesn't do anything 'cause everyone is free to do everything bad😑........
I was really disappointed but i don't care 'cause i'm at home now :)
Sorry UK i'll never understand why people love you.
I think this is a problem only for that city(UK in general) 'cause i've never had issues in other northern European countries like Sweden or Norway.....non lo so!!!!
London,i hope you'll sink in the ocean.
    I don't like it,am i the only one? Doesn't matter😝😝

It is blatantly obvious that any city rent is expensive. And she said London is to busy. That just proves the popularity. London is packed with history and culture. This come at a premium. I travel to London at least twice a month on business. And love it every time. I'm also from the North. Wigan

Erm? I disagree with a lot of this, and it seems like ur not really used to big cities, but the whole 'trend' thing in terms of food is so not true. In America, u pay extra for tips, and that is expected, so the price of food in restaurants is cheaper there. But in England, u pay the bill almost exactly, usually with very little or no tip, so things aren't really any different in price.

Whilst I am sure there are a few backsliders, any eatery with seats for 10 or more must provide a toilet for customers. Note, customers, not the general public, and they sometimes keep it fairly secret to discourage passers-by popping in.
