      Shoot, I got so caught up in comparing the 2 sets, I actually forgot to comment on the video quality itself.
      You did well FitBricks, the video is not very original in premise or subject (even though I find it clearly interesting) but you did produce and cut it very well. Very concise and well narrated, great job!

    Always tough to compare new and old because new are more detailed and have lots of new parts. However, I would say I was more excited and impressed by the original when it came out than the medieval town, if that means anything. I do love the return of the wolfpack and the tax collector looks great

    It seems like many people didn’t watch the designer video for this set 😂
    I do love the child laborer sets, but for all the people asking why there aren’t a ton of figures or how the town produces cheese with just a goat, the set is intended as an expansion to the lion knights castle, and it shred a continuity with the figures in that set. It’s great for people who don’t have the castle, but the target audience for this is people with the castle. The couple that brought the cow to the castle in the other set own the goat and cheese making business back home. The child laborer is actually their son, and he’s just watching the shop while they’re off at the castle.

      I much prefer the realism of an actual child laborer. That said, I think that apart from a few design flaws, the lack of farm animals is the main downside of the set and especially for it's comparatively high price (even compared to Lion Knight's) this is not exactly needed. Lego could have easily included a few cows, a few chickens and a horse for that price.

    Like the Kingdom line, I completely missed the old Market Village set. It does look awesome for it's price, even adjusted for inflation, it would retail for about 130-140 dollars today, which is a LOT cheaper than the modern Medieval Town Square set. As I do not own the older set, I will speak on behalf of the medieval town square mainly.
    First, I think that despite it's price, the Medieval Town Square is an amazing set. It is well designed overall, fun to build and I absolutely love the design of the buildings and the interiors. There are only 3 flaws with the set:
    - The connection point for the 3 assembled buildings is badly designed. The connection is weak structurally, but it also doesn't allow for the buildings to be opened up fully, like with the 2 assembled buildings.
    - The roofs of 2 of the 5 buildings are unfinished. The other roofs are very well designed and look great, but the 2 that are angled plate designs are barebones and look ugly, especially in comparison.
    - The set has great minifigures, but it could use a few more. The main issue is, there are barely any farm animals, which is both unrealistic and drags the whole set down. Not even including a single horse is just mindblowing, as the primary mode of transportation would have been on horseback. The set even includes a cart, with no animal that could be used with it.
    Somehow, they designed this set about 85-90% of the way .. then suddenly stopped and realized they were out of money or something.
    That said though, the set has a ton of building pieces and is probably still worth it's money, even if it is clearly pushing it a little in price. The Market Village seems like an excellent set, the buildings are clearly a bit inferior, but with all the farm animals, more realistic minifigures and a few well designed playfeatures I think I would still buy the set today if it were to retail for about 125-150 dollars and think I got a better deal out of it.

      I agree that the set could use more farm animals and that the set should connect firmly instead of loosely like the old version.

      I agree 100%. Btw I am still considering if I should get my hands on the Market Village or not

    • @pinobluevogel6458
      @pinobluevogel6458 27 днів тому

      @@tjl5673 It is pretty expensive on the aftermarket. That adjusted for inflation price was based on the retail price when it came out. I'm not sure if it is 100% worth the current price, you might be better off just trying to recreate the buildings with modern pieces and use modern minifigures or completely MOC something up yourself.
      I'm not saying the set isn't amazingly good, especially for it's time, but it will cost you 250 USD or more if you buy it used today, that is not a small amount for a relatively low piececount set . (1500+)

    • @tjl5673
      @tjl5673 27 днів тому +1

      @@pinobluevogel6458 Many thanks for your reply, yeah because of the price on the aftermarket I was considering if I should or not, 250 for a used one or even worse 400 for a new one...simply doesn't seal the deal imo. I would rather get another copy of Lion Knights Castle and moc that out. As you said it would be better to buy the pieces and build it myself😁

      @@tjl5673 It is not too hard to find the parts list and instructions, if you're interested in recreating the build. I do like the color scheme, it definitely scratches the same itch as Medieval Town Square with the timber framed buildings.

    Medieval Market Village is superior because it has a water wheel. That is all.

      Lion Knight's has a water wheel, a larger one that also has a working millstone that it drives inside the building. Just as an FYI.

      Used copies are $275 and up as well. Considering the most expensive part is the minifigures and animals, you could much better piece it out for that price and find the instructions somewhere online. If you change some of the minifigures, you can probably make it for half that amount or less if you look for good deals and skimp on shipping as much as possible.
      Quite a bit of work, but worth it if you really want the set I guess.

    It's not completely fair to compare the price of these sets on piece count alone, you have to adjust for inflation.

    • @pinobluevogel6458
      @pinobluevogel6458 6 місяців тому

      Even adjusted for inflation, the older set is about 100 dollars cheaper. The piece count is quite a bit smaller and the minifigures that come with the new set have quite a few new prints, which is probably costly to make. Having a bit of a difference is probably okay, you need cheaper sets and you need more expensive sets that include a little more detail. However, I think this gap is a bit too large and speaks for how well LEGO designed and priced it's earlier lines though.
