I was on the market to buy below $700 headphones, I was hesitant on the Oppo PM2 and whether to splurge a bit more more the PM1. These though look so sexy, the headphones in my opinion look so attractive with that solid finish. One troubling though is that 2 way mono cable for their own PHA-3, I really wish it was proprietary balance output cables. I'm torn apart between these and the Oppo PM2. I also own a pair of LCD-3 and a HD 800.
I'm curious: could the "highs" be better as you stated near the beginning of the video or do they sound nice and clear like you stated near the end of the video? Thank you, Mike.
Hello how do I connect my iMac and shure open back headphones and sony pha-2, how do I use them together, I am a Virgin to the audiophile world. Please help.
Hello Hifiguy528, I love your videos!, I would love to watch a Video review/comparison on all the new Sony stuff that you already have in your channel: Z7, Z5, H3, A1 and PHA3, Thanks!... keep the great job!
Can you please please please please please do a video with the new beats solo 2 in stone gray i want to see what they look like and nobody else has a picture and no electronics stores are carrying that one in my area. This is a critical decision for me between stone gray, dark blue, and black for a Christmas gift. Thank you
Hey. Can you suggest a hi end closed headphone? I have owned the Beyerdynamic T5P Gen 2 for about a week. I think the mids are a little too recessed for me. Any suggestions? Maybe these Sony's? Others?
Balanced cable should be dual-stereo, not dual-mono (makes me cringe just hearing that). You need three wires for one channel, two signal, and one ground. The two signal wires per cable make it possible to be balanced. And indeed, I see the tip-ring-sleve (that counts to 3) connectors at the end of each channel cable. The Kimber cables clearly show more wires in their braided form. That would be quite silly to call single mono wire to be balanced. But even it it is, what can we do, there are no better products on the market right now below $1000 anyway. I wonder if the PHA-3 headphone amplifier does native DSD or not, but that's topic for another video of course.
Do you have a recommendation between the MDR-Z7s, the DT 1770 Pro, and the Shure 1540's? I'm looking for a closed back headphone to use with my Apogee Groove (I need isolation due to working in an office setting, and mainly listen to Electronic music)
+Hi-Fi Insider Thanks for the reply. I have been offered to trade my xb 1000's for a pair of z7 plus some change, and am debating it. I see the xb 1000's have gone up in value/rarity and if i am better off keeping them and saving up for a different upgrade.
Fantastic looking headphones. They definitely echo the MDR-R10 in style. I hope the sound can rival it as well.
I highly doubt it can rival the R10's, probably not even CD3000's.
derbigpr500 From what I've heard, they don't... Tyll found them pretty "meh" sounding...
Mugen Mundo not even close... LOL

LOL. I would have not made such a comment if i knew better. :) just wishful thinking, as I would probably never land my hands on a pair of R10.
The design really reminds me of the Denon D2000. Very nice set, nice packaging too I might add.

What proprietary? That IS A standard 3.5mm jack.
it has a collar ring around the jack that is not used on anything other than Sony Z7 and Z1r.
@@HiFiInsider well yeah, but you don't need them to use the cable, that's more like "feature" of the cable than limitation. Is it?
It is actually standard 3.5mm, i am using them with after-market cable, sure not kimber kable they offer.
... is the kimber cable bad?
superb headphones from Sony but can it compete with a Fostex TH600 for sound quality?
maitrehg not as snappy in the bass as 600. The gem is TH500. Stay tuned for that on that channel.
tried these headphones in best buy. they were great. i also tried the audeze el-8, vmoda m100, and momemtums
how do these compare with m100? which one had the better bass?
+Scott Mathieson i am just a beginner in the audiophile scene, so i couldn't tell a differemce between them. but the mdr-z7 were much more comfortable
I have seen other viewer saying other normal 3.5 can fit with the cans.
They will - it'll just look a bit silly and be a tad impractical...
Could you recommend a DAC that works well with Z7 with balanced output?
This or the Beyer Amiron Home? I know that one is open and the other is semiclosed, but they are in the same 500 USD dollars ballpark.
you can still probably make a custom cable by reusing those connectors
did we finally have the replacment for XB1000? in all areas comfort, sound, design.!

Hifiguy you know what you still sound like homer Simpson in a good way

Between these & the Beyer DT1770, which would you more highly recommend for mixing & mastering?
for studio use, I'd go for DT 1770. Z7 can be a bit dark for mixing/mastering.

Jeff See what did you end up with? I'm in the same boat choice wise
How are these compared to the Alpha Dogs? Which headphone is better sounding overall?
Are they way better than mar 1a?
thanks a LOT...!!! a little expensive but better than beats
ficacci +1
Is it possible to use these headsets with my phone when I travel?
Hello. Where is the review of this headphones? I need you opinion on them before I decide to buy them.
yes, worth owning. I own three pairs.
Thanks for your answer. I would be more happy to see your review but if you say I't worth buying I will get them then.
It is not a proprietary connector its normal 3.5mm
How would you say they compare to the MDR XB-1000s?
+uaa33ify Z7 are much musical, but not as punchy as XB1000.

Good stuff as always Mike

Rihards Linde no plans on A3
$699 for this headphone and $999 for the PHA-3, u can't tell me the PHA-3 is not over priced
Gone are the Sony green rings.
aumkar chandan I know!! :(
You should get the new beats solo 2 wireless once they come out
So, the Z1000 is still the better option?
What about the mdr xb950ap
what does this guy do to afford all this?
+superchrist1000 Sounds like it is bought for him, the ONLY thing he knows is the Mfg's name and the price - thus he recommend to you.
+LowLightVideos +superchrist1000 I bought this with my hard earned money. :)
K
I think the Sony MDR1A is better!
소니코리아 정품 스티커가 ㅎㅎㅎ
This headphone sucks!
***** I did. That's why I said it sucks. And I have a Shure SRH1840.
