Pat was the GOAT back in my early years playing guitar in the late 70s. Seeing him playing Makin' Magic on The Old Grey Whistle Test was a life changing moment foe me. Thanks for posting this up, you've really nailed his technique.
I meet Pat Travers a couple of times, when he was playing on locations all over the world. I had the change to ask him my questions- backstage, which has been coming up to me, when I was a kid looking at his album covers. At that time we where sittin´ with Carmine Appice and T.M. Stevens (who made an unbelievable show) . The Chorus sound a lot of times has been an organ leslie, which Pat was using Live and in Studio. I borrowed one at that time and it was horrible heavy and loud gadget. It made this special chorus-like sound but different. It was back in fully analog times....
Ha thanx! I’m not 💯 if this is absolutely the right way just the way I learned by ear. The notes are correct but I think Pat May finger it a different way
@@JefferyJMarshall yeah he probably does if you watch Hill Heirs guitar lesson right by yours. He shows his way and then the way he thinks Pat plays it. As long as it sounds the same, right. Peace.
If you wanna get ontop of your game, learn how to play "Life in London" and sing it at the same time... Once you get it, all other tunes that require singing seem effortless. I did a PT tribute band years ago and it was one of the most challenging endeavors, musically Ive ever encountered. But BEYOND a blast to do!
Awesome stuff! Met him in St. Louis after a show and he is a genuinely nice guy! Feel free to do more, like Heat in the Street or maybe Killers Instinct. While you're doing Canada you might as well throw in some Frank Marino! hehe🤘
@@JefferyJMarshall I saw Frank at the Day on the Green #3 in Oakland, CA. in 1979 and he stole the show over Aerosmith, AC/DC, and Ted Nugent. I had tickets to see him a couple of years ago when he suddenly retired.
Jeff, you nailed his tone (almost) He and "Mr Thrall" both had AD/A flangers on their pedal boards. Pat Travers did the intro. Through a leslie in the left channel at coral speed. Also, your right hand is off on the intro. When you played it at the beginning of yhe video
Because Ive spoken to Pat Travers about this. Amongst other things. Such as how during the intro, Pat used a Marshall Plexi through a Leslie 147 at coral speed. His famous "scream" effect that you hear after the first chorus of "Go all night" on Live! Go for what you know is also an AD/A set to overload. Pat had a pedal board that was second to none back in the day. Anything else you wanna know?
@@billyrae4804 Sir, I wasn't trying to insult you. My apologies if you took it that way. I just wanted to know how you knew that information because I really like Pat's sound and didn't know how he got it.
Love this song, Pat Thrall's lead guitar solos are incredible.Travers plays a short part of the lead too.

That makes sense. I think a lot of cats back then used those too. Jimmy Page etc… surely wouldn’t want to drag one of those around lol
I still have hearing loss from listening to this in my friends jeep back in he early 80s
What was that?? 😂🎸
If you listen to Snortin’ Whiskey one must listen to Just Got Paid ZZ Top after 2 of the best guitar riffs ever
Good call!
Really like your instructional style - not too much, not too little.
That pinch harmonics in there 🖤
makes life worthwhile, lol
I can pinch well but maybe I need more gain or flanger?
Take a look at your Guitar Set-up. Sometimes that's all it takes to get better harmonics.@@Lokeacola
Great riff man! Your tone is right on!
Thanx mate!
Great riff, great vid. Thanks for sharing, forgot all about this song. Brought back memories.
Thank you for showing this. Really cool!
Thanks so much for showing me the right way. When I was younger I had most of his albums. A jump out of your seat Rocker!

Just when life can't get any sweeter, there's pinch harmonics! :-)
Kicks it up a notch I’d say
absolutely! @@JefferyJMarshall
I’ll make you rich if ya teach the whole song! PT is awesome. Thank you for this tidbit

Awesome job, I'm going to learn that
Awesome lesson. Thanks man, keep rock'n!
🤘
Thanks!
🤘
Got it quick,
Thanks brotha!
I agree, it's pretty savage.
White snake Crying in the rain is just as savage as this
Ya that is pretty savage. Ever check out Blue Murder? Great record
Nice Dude
The effect is most likely Pat's A/DA flanger.
Makes sense…

@@LJA46 super jealous man! Those were all my fav bands back in the day. I learned to play from all those cats!
@@JefferyJMarshall Haha! You and the rest of us! No better rock than the 70's, and early 80's.

Where are you from in da U.P.? Eh.
I think it was the ADA Flanger? Chorus works though.
Awe yes that makes sense!
Jeff would you give a lesson on Crash & Burn by Pat Travers? It is the guitar version here on UA-cam. Thanks.
Is there a specific version or just the album cut?
The album version would be great for Snorting. How about Crash and Burn that on UA-cam as well?
Oh ya I’ll take a look at that. Been super busy…
Still waiting for a lesson on Pat Thrall's solo on this tune. Hint-Hint!
Ha thanx for the reminder. Lots of balls in the air at the moment but I will get to it!!
Ive heard and seen other lessons on this riff and you're spot on. Thank you.
Awesome thanx! I’m not 💯 if this is exact how Pat plays it but it sounds pretty darn close

Oh wow cool! I love how those cats used those efx back in the day. Ya I know Pat plays it a little different. Just kinda how I figured it out 🤷♂️
No joke though, Ive never seen anyone play it properly in the same position as Pat other than me until you did this vid. Cheers!
How the hell do you know this? I mean its great but where does this information come from. Just out of curiosity.

Yeah nice.
its actually a DOD flanger (according to Pat Thrall)
Oh ya makes sense…
906!
Jeffrey, what is your opinion of Jake E Lee?
Oh ya I’ve always liked Jake a lot! Unique and creative. Love the Badlands records!
Also Jeff, the rhythm guitar riff Pat plays behind the guitar solo, is it similar to the actual opening riff?
I’ll check it out…
@@JefferyJMarshall thanks I'm addicted to this song and that riff he is playing at the solo. Seems like hes hitting the C chord twice.
can i get that tone setting from you thanks
I believe I was using a Line 6 Pod Go using the 2204 model with a chorus added. I’ve since learned it was a flanger…
Nice tone- digital?
Ya just using a Line 6 Pod Go pedal
@@JefferyJMarshall Well it's working, and this coming from an old school straight-into-tube amp guy.
MAN that sounds good AF! A bit wet, but frickn' NICE!
ADA Flanger was his secret wepon
Right on! I think another cat mentioned that too. 🤘
