Handsome and full throated ...Lush yet sharp...like an open wheat field before a great storm... there's fear in it... (like the guillotine around the corner.) So close to our very own time.
..Ooof... .the hurried and panicky ( Damoclean (viola da gamba?) phrases of the 'ancien regime'.... You can almost hear the heads starting to bounce and roll. Magnificent work and embracingly supported by the Munich pro arte. Always fresh to hear. Bravi bravissimi.
A MUSICAL FEAST. THE WORK SHINES WITH AN INCOMPARABLE AND PERFECT OSTINATE. THE BEST INTERPRETATION BEFORE THE EXECUTION OF THIS WORK WITH OLD INSTRUMENTS WITH THE INTERPRETATION OF JORDI SAVALL. WITH MY BEST WISHES FOR ALL.
Thank you for both simply posting this(specifically this recording), but then the write up, I can't express my gratitude enough for this. I had no previous experience with this composer, and then KDFC played this today and I was gripped. So far out of the versions of this I have listened to today, this has been the most expressive, after this the others seem flat some how.
Listen to Marin Marais' other works. Played on original instruments and in the style of the era in which they were written, Marais' work is very expressive and moving aside from being beautiful.
That was very strange but very nice. I liked the little scales he kept using but , once again, I'd never heard of him. Good job with our music education : )
Marvelous! Do you have the rest of the selections off this album? Some one-of-a-kind orchestrations of Baroque classics on it. My old LP broke years ago. :( The selections: Pachelbel's Canon Vivaldi- Nisi Dominus Pastorale; Largo e Spicato from Violin Concerto in D Minor Bach- Sheep May Safely Graze, "Jesu, Der du Meine Seele" Telemann- Flute Solo in C Minor; Adagio for Flute, Violin and Orchestra in G Major Couperin- Prelude, "Des Tenebres"
Greetings from The San🌁Francisco Bay🌁Area Northern🌁California, I've been searching for this song high and low I believe since 2007, I heard this on a radio station out here in The Bay🌁Area that plays Cassical🎵🎶Music 91.1 and could not find it and then I stumbled upon it January 30th 2019 what I was coming from my friends house in🌁Vallejo🌁 and because I have been searching for it I hurried up and pulled out my phone recorder and record it like the last couple minutes of it in the lady said the name but I kept typing it up in UA-cam and it wouldn't come up and I also on my other phone would play the recording and try to Shazam it and it wouldn't come up and my spirit told me to try it again to Shazam it because I have two phones and it still didn't work however I decided to just try to type the name in because the lady on the recording at the radio station gave the title and when I typed it in the best that I could I had a feeling I was spelling it wrong, sure enough I was right that I was wrong in spelling it LOL 😂 but it came up and I clicked on the first one and it wasn't the correct tune so I typed in the correct spelling and it came up and this one was the first one and I am so happy I love Cassical🎶🎵Music as well as other selections as well, whoever put this on here thank you!✊🏾✌🏿⚡🌁👁😁
Aaayyyeee!! That’s dope! What’s crazy is I’m born n raised in SF, hubby is born n raised in Vallejo.. we now live in Vegas and my home girl in SF is crossing the Bay Bridge now, heard it on the radio, sent it to me because my name is Genevieve ✨😜🔥 Absolutely love this song! Reminds me of when I was little and my ballet days that I secretly took lol
This schmaltzy orchestration effectively stripped away all mystery, beauty and depth from this beguiling masterwork by throttling through it. The violin sound is unctuous, the overall effect somehow tinny, dulled as if played by the CBS TV orchestra for some 1960's television program. The musical equivalent of a paperback romance novel. Reduced it to aural kitsch. Like a Joni Mitchell song interpreted on a kazoo. Ugh. Ruinous.

Lovely piece of music. There couldn't be a clearer example of the ostinato. Was on KDFC today and discovered this gem of a composition!
KDFC rocks! I hear this piece once or twice weekly. Always a pleasure.
I love the opening bars with the pizzicato violins. I’ve never heard it like this before.
Of course. This piece of music wasn't made for that, it's baroque music, not romantic music !
Heard it on the radio today and was absolutely smitten by it... so happy to find it here.
I just came to say the exact same thing!
Thank you George for sharing it!

Bravi bravissimi.
Una prodigiosa obra de ARTE! A prodigious work of ART!
I love this beautiful piece! I heard it on the radio and had to find it.
Magnifying 🎵🎶🎵🎶🎶🎵 Music prodigious

This is the version I like best, too.
Hermosa armonisa, con toke exuberance ,

Paul Boakes ... good to hear from you... and to hear you like this version!... we will go on :))

Couperin- Prelude, "Des Tenebres"
IF you ask me: I don't have this specific album... I have some the music you've mentioned in my list
This the most romantic interpretation I've ever encountered. Unsure how I actually like it...
Same here (and I AM a viola da gamba player ... :p )
An orchestral version of this piece which, to some, might be blasphemous; but I like it.
:) )
Marais is better than anyone else although it is stupid thing to compare especially in music but in this case I must.
That's it
