Thanks! I was testing out my manual auto shift and was wondering how to disengage without stopping and putting it in park! Just bought a 2016 wrangler sport and Just starting to get acquainted with it 👍
Awesomeness! I knew mine had this, because I have accidentally bumped it and had to read the manual on how to get out of it. Lol. Also, I noticed it looks like you have a "Throttle Commander " or throttle enhancement device? I looked for a video from you about it. Do you have one? Maybe I missed it. Thank you in advance.
I just bought the 2013 model used and I did not know it had this feature, (and was hating the auto transmission on the street). It is not in my owners manual. I will never use "D" again. I see absolutely no need for vague slipping shifts and the thing trying to climb hills at a low 1,200rpm and not figuring what gear it wants to be in. I wanted a manual transmission to get away from this faulty engineering. Now I have one, and don't have to use the clutch. :) The thing basically went from a slug, to a race car. OK, not so much a race car, but in that direction. :) The thing makes peak power at red line, (not that I go there much), and it is trying to climb hills in a gear making 1,200rpm in "D" mode. That is stupid only environmentalist's can think of.
Great demonstration! At 2:30 going down the hill showing 1st gear vs 2nd gear using autostick, were you in 4 low? The owners manual says when in 4 low, transmission will shift automatically, but no higher than the displayed gear. But you seemed to have total control over what gear you were actually in... the Jeep shifted gears on command, not automatically up to a displayed gear. That's awesome. I didn't think it was possible to "hold a specific gear."
@@JeepMomma Got a question I haven't found the answer to. When in 4 low with trans in D (normal auto shifting mode), what gear does the Jeep start in? 1st or 2nd gear from a stop in 4 low? I've been told you have to maunally select 1st gear if you want to use that gear in 4 low. Is this true? Thanks!
@@JeepMomma Don't understand, sorry. Still not sure if the Jeep starts in 1st when in D and 4 low. Some say it starts in 2nd every time while in D and 4 low. Thanks.
@@JeepMomma What ever that is, (hill decent). I think it is more challenging to drive, than let a computer do it, that was programed by somebody who does not "drive". :) Just give me a manual transmission, a carburetor, mechanical mechanisms to control the brakes, throttle and steering, and I feel safer and more reliable. But my 2013 Jeep does have roll up windows. I haven't had those for about 40 years. They seem like a new idea that actually works all the time. :)
@@EarthSurferUSA It is pretty amazing to at least try it. I have only used it 2 times. Once in a off road class to show me what it does. And second for a video. You would be amazed.
Something I havent seen in videos, can you keep your foot on the accelerator while shifting because there is no clutch or do you just glide shift then put your foot back on the accelerator?
I think it should be called "Manual shift", not auto shift. But no bid deal. I just bought a used 2013 and i don't plan on doing any off roading with it like you do, but I hate the automatic transmission. It has bigger tires on it than stock, with out a diff gear change, so I am guessing that messes with the automatic shift points some, (which are designed for best gas mileage). But I find the automatic to be a pain on public streets, especially with hills, (which have made my dash error lights go on). I just learned about this today from YT, and it is not in the owners manual. On the street, you can shift all 5 gears and back down, totally controlling what gear you want to be in, (and I bet I can get better gas mileage too). I see no reason to use the "D" mode again. The transmission shifts better too. It seems in D mode, up hills and such, there is a lot of slipping between gears, (and figuring out what gear it wants to be in). No more doing it manual. I hate the programmed shift codes so much, I was looking for manual trans for my jeep before I found this out. It is better than shifting with an automatic clutch. It just went form the worst transmission I ever used, to one that mimics some drag racer shifting entities. Now, this is going to work like it should. :) Strange, how this function seems to have been kept under wraps. Not in my owners manual, and the dealer had no idea. I thought I was stuck with a junk transmission.
@@EarthSurferUSA I didn't pick the name. :D The Autotick works great when you are in 4lo which I am pretty sure what it was meant for. That 4 to 1 transfer case on the Rubicon and autostick off road is awesome. Jeeps are meant to be on dirt not payment which is why they aren't the best on public streets. You probably didnt get a "real" owners manaual. You have to order it from Jeep. Most dealers don't give you the thick book.
You can either put the car into neutral then back into drive or like she said hold the stick into the upshift position for 3 seconds and it will switch back to automatic. There may be other ways but those are the only two I know of.
Another great video!
Chet Makowski thanks!
Thank you, "hold to right 3 seconds".... I couldn't figure this out. Now I got it,
Glad you figured it out!
As a new Jeep owner your vid’s are awesome!
thank You! I hope they are helpful!

Takes a couple of tries to get the hang of it.
very cool. I have a normal PRND21 set up on my Jeep. I wish I bought a manual, but I use 1 and 2 all the time.
I almost bought a manual but was told wheeling on the rocks in a manual can be difficult. I don't need it anymore difficult. :)
I have a Jeep Compass 2014 and I use it all the time, sometimes even for city driving.
When I first got my Jeep I had no idea!
Use this with the Hill Decent control and the gears control the speed of the decent also. Great video
Good Tip!!! Thanks!
So going up hill up want to use the higher gears?
Going up hills what gear it should be in. I the first time a Jeep owner myself.

Great video.
Dumb question, what's the purple bar on the hood in the video do.
Why do jeeps have those , what's the purpose ?
It's a footman loop. It's supposed to be for your windshield when you pull it down. A tie down place from what I understand.

Yes.

Can you turn this on and off so that it can't be shifted on accident during daily driving?
No, you can't. I have never accidentally shifted mine and I have been driving my Jeep for 11 years.
You can also use your hill decent in the Rubicon.
Se7vinDeadlySins yep you sure can
