Su, Moa and all 3 Avengers on stage plus both the Kami Bands East and West all playing together too - 4 lead guitars, 2 bassists, 2 drummers.
This is their international breakout. Look at Su's eyes at the beginning - She knows they conquered the crowd. Yui and Moa said that was their longest run for the opening. The Metal press didn't know what to do about them. Interviewing adorable teenage girls wasn't covered in their job description. A Japanese journalist who was there, declared the them Most Famous Japanese High School Students in the world. They attended regular school the entire time. Moa was a Straight A student. This show was a masterclass in winning over a hostile audience. The girls had no idea what reception they would get here. UK crowds are renowned for throwing bottles of pss and booing offstage acts they don't like (example: Meatloaf at Reading Festival). They had been bumped up to the main stage after Gimme Chocolate went viral, but their fanbase outside Japan was pretty small at this point. They have said in interview that pre-show they couldn't see any of the crowd and thought no-one was coming to see them perform. There are other videos that show them preshow looking very nervous. When they got onstage they were shocked by the size of the crowd - presumably cynical metalheads come watch a 'gimmick' band fall on their faces hard. Not only did Su and the rest win over the crowd, who chanted "we want more", UK audience have taken Babymetal to our hearts. Babymetal merch went on to outsell everything else at the festival. Babymetal now consider UK their second home and always get the best of receptions every time they come back ❤️🦊🤘
5:50 the guy you see headbanging is actually Spifffyy, who is the first mod of the largest English Babymetal fan forum on the Internet, a place you regularly visit but when mentioning other social media in UA-cam comments makes it more likely to be marked as spam. So I won't say it. He also got the Megitsune mask from this show, an extremely rare event (he recently sold it).
Holy shit! I can’t believe you haven’t checked out this version before! This is the closer for Babymetal’s historic 1st major show outside of Japan, before they got big world wide. Early on in the 6-song set, Su tried to get everyone to sing along to Gimme Chocolate, but not many did. However by the end of this closer, the crowd cheered “we want more!!”. Looks like you skipped that in the end though 😉. This is how Babymetal won over vast majority of the 60k+ confused UK metalheads for the first time 🤣. Epic!
