oh MAN 1:23-1:27 Luca superimposes Keep Your Temper over the rhythm changes bridge from the A of Handful of Keys - insane quote from someone who has been living and breathing the stride tradition for a long time, and clearly sheds his Donald Lambert with that crazy left hand clarity!
Emmet is an amazing pianist… But Luca Filastro from Roma shows him a thing or two… Watch that finger work… stride Piano… Wow… Thanks Emmett, for bringing us this channel!!!
Holy f, listening to Emmet I was surprised that a modern jazz pianist, however technically and groove-wise gifted, could play stride that well without being a specialist in the genre. (I thought people who dig modern jazz wouldn't take old forms of jazz seriously enough to devote much time to them. I prefer older forms of jazz but I get why people who can appreciate the more complex harmonies in modern jazz might not be so interested in the older stuff.) Then Luca started and I nearly spat out my coffee. I didn't know this gent before but I'm going to check him out.
These guys are good. But for stride piano style, speed and smoothness, I go back to the master: Willie “The Lion” Smith. He was a top competitor in the “cutting contests” in New York City in the 1920s and 1930s. And he was still just as good (or better) than these guys in the 1960s, on the Ed Sullivan tv ship - when he was in his 70s! Check him out on UA-cam Music. A current stride favorite of mine is Paul Asaro, of the Chicago jazz group, The Fat Babies. Not sure if he is on UA-camMusic.

Luca is from Calabria.
@@ArgoBeats La Calabria è bella, soprattutto il mare…
However, his LinkedIn profile and other online sources say he is based in Roma..
I just want to get the word out to Luca… I think your work is amazing…
😎
@@stephenlangton6711 yeah man, he lives in Roma, but he is originally from Calabria (Vibo Valentia if I remember correctly). He is great.
I'm sure only a handful of pianists could play like this! Fast fingers and even faster ears 🎹🔥
Have a look to this one: ua-cam.com/video/UiWNBpnJfr8/v-deo.html and those two french pianists: ua-cam.com/video/UiWNBpnJfr8/v-deo.html
