There were written accounts by a Spanish missionary who went to the royal court of Ayutthaya; in his diary, he had mentioned that he was quite baffled and perplexed to have had witnessed the multitudes of Khmer Brahmins there, that were conducting all of the affairs of the court, serving the Siem monarch. How did he know they were Khmer? It was out of his curiosity, he had conversed with them and inquired about their backgrounds. So there are truth to the tales and legends of countless Khmer intellectuals who were forcibly, taken back to Ayutthaya as prisoners of wars, along with all of the other spoils of war. Perhaps, you should research more into this. I came across this when I was reading about the old Indianized kingdoms of Southeast Asia. Khmer intellectuals and artists of various expertise and backgrounds - HELPED to build and influenced the Siem royal court. The Siems have been extremely relentless for centuries - in an attempt to hide, erased, and eradicate all evidence of the truth - right to this very day and age.
Thai people are so confused if you go into their vdos discussing anything khmer, Angkor, Ayuthaya, Lavo etc. it’s like they have an identity crisis plus there’s a strong detest of Khmers but then some people I see do accept that they are connected to khmer people. It’s complicated. I think a lot of the Siem people were bilingual or even trilingual but they converted to tai once they were told to. They don’t understand that the ancient Khmer writing is not 100% the same as modern khmer as languages evolve overtime. Like old English vs modern English and old Chinese vs modern Chinese etc. anyhow history so complicated It’s funny because they can’t read old khmer language but khmers can read it, although not entire but pretty easy most
The Siems do know the truth, especially the older generation. I've known older Siems who had admitted the truth. They said the ones who knows won't admit it, because they have the deliberate intention to pushed forth the assertion that they were the original Indianized kingdom of Southeast Asia. It seems like ever since the advent of the internet, there is a mass propaganda to pushed forth the false narrative and eradicate all traces of any acknowledgement of Khmer influenced on Siem culture and history. Well, it doesn't take a genius to figure that out as to why it is so. They clearly could not continue perpetuating the lies, and they would have to come up with an explanation as to why the world's history is not in alignment to what is in their history books.

Very true. To earn trust with the colonial France, Youn had to bend backward to please France. Even as far as Latinize their Vietnamese alphabets and mass conversion to become Catholics. Once that trusts were earned, Youn take administrative positions and began the manipulation of politic within French-Indochina affairs. Youn ambition was to take Prey or Kampuchea Krom. Youn conspired with France to have France sign over Prey Nokor to Annam on June 4, 1949. That how Khmer lost Kampuchea Krom. Siem story is also unique as far as their ambition to destroy Khmer. Upon the founding kingdom of Ayutthaya in 1375 A.D, Siem began the alteration of Khmer alphabet to suit the ideology.They incorporated Tai-Kadia language in the mix. This is why today's Thai language only retain about 40% Khmer. Beside language, Siem brainwashed their people to demonize and be very hateful of Khmer. Just as anti-Semitism in West, very similar in Thailand of anti-Khmer. This practice is as old as the Thai first kingdom of Sokhuthai in 1235 A.D. So we can see the multi-generational hatred for Khmer oozing and dripping from the Thai when they talk about Cambodia.
