Good little novella. I have the impossibly rare UK hardcover first- which I think is the World first- which also contains 'Empire Star'. Nice video,, Michael!
Best tshirt ever! Ballad of Beta-2 was one of the first Delany works i read. I enjoyed it, though that was decades ago, so I'm probably due for a reread.
Awesome Dhalgren Tshirt! Ballad is a gem of a story. NAVIGATION OFFICES or RECREATION HALL? Interesting choice when the meanings have been lost over time. Although is may lack some of the gravitas of Delany's other works - It's a wiz bang, thought provoking page turner that informs us that anthropology is a science worthy of SF.
Great review! Quick question, have you read The Einstein Intersection, and how does it compare with Delaney's other works? That is another one I'm interested in, alongside Dhalgren and Babel-17. Not sure which is best to start off with.
I like the Einstein intersection. I'm currently re reading it. It's not in my top tier of Delany, but I know for some people it's one of their favorites. Go on my video page Robim, and find the thumbnail that says "MUST READ" it has a lengthy take on my suggestions for Delany work. Einstein Intersection is also a very short and quick read, so it's low risk. Beta2 is also a good starting point because it's super accessible
I've tried to re-read Einstein Intersection, but it doesn't click for me at all any more. Babel 17 is where I always advise people to start with Delany, and Ive re-read it with enjoyment and delight. It's such a thinking person's addenture!
I got that book because I kept seeing it on "top sci-fi books" lists If I knew it was a thriller, I wouldn't have bought it cause I generally want to spend my time on other things, but I could hardly put that book down. It was so go... .. it was fit to be read!

Thanks..and yeah this is just such a great little space opera in a tight little package.
I am a huge Delaney fan!! Babel-17 and Nova are favorites.
You are in the right place!

Babel-17 is the one to start with. Einstein is great, won the Nebula Award - Dhalgen is a masterpiece, but Babel -17 the place to begin.
