- Today for #WolfeRidgeWednesday we took our 17VS-C Vertical Log Splitter on a short road trip to visit Brent from @AroundTheYard-MN.
Brent currently runs our 35 SHO Box Wedge machine, and we thought it would be a good idea to get some insight and feedback on the VS from a current box wedge machine customer. Please check out his channel for a ton of Wolfe Ridge box wedge content, and upcoming 17VS-C content.

The 17VS-C in this video is a standard configuration with the only added option being the overhead flood lights.

17 VS-C what a great machine! First Wolfe Ridge splitter I had the great opportunity to demo. Probably ruined myself😂 Vertical platform is so enjoyable to run! Good stuff Bob👍🏻👍🏻
Thanks Todd!
Brent is going to get addicted to the vsc. Great machine!
He said this might complicate things... lol
Good set and operating video 👍 Nice discussion on use of the box wedge and it's positives and negatives 😊
Thanks Lyle, more to come!
Nice job on the video still loving my 17 VSC 😁
Awesome, thanks Bill!
Now Bob that’s customer service at his best. I’m sure Brent was happy to get his Christmas present early. A number of people on my channel have said vertical splitters are a fad. In my opinion they are here to stay and offer a lot of benefits for us woodhounds.
Happy Holiday's! 👍TCT
Thank you Tony, I appreciate that!
Thank you very much Tony, Happy New Year!
New subscriber here. Great looking machine. That would be perfect for my bundling business here in lower Michigan. So much control over the wood size. Love it. Good stuff.
Thank you!
Hi Bob and Brent, Merry Christmas to you. I have the exact machine, same color too. I have 137 hours on it. I ve enjoyed running it every minute. You do have to watch closely to uneven cuts especially in the winter months. Living in northern Minnesota we can have snow by Halloween and may still be here mid May. Uneven cuts will tend to slide very easily and most times they come at you. Learn to feather the cylinder slowly so the wood doesn’t hit you where it can hurt bad. Snow and ice add to the slipperiness. Brent I think you will really like the 17vs-c. It can be run by yourself but there is still plenty to do for 2 people. I set the conveyor for barkless splits for bundles and toss regular firewood into a bin. I have a bladder setup for uglies short cuts etc.for my stoves or bonefire wood. Good luck on the decision. Brent feel free to contact me any time if you need to. These machines are designed to split right around knots and limb areas. Chip off what you can throw the nasties in the tub.
Awesome, thank you and Merry Christmas to you also!
What a awesome machine.
Thank you, its quite fun to use!
I want one so bad! I watch all of the 17VS video's! Brent is awesome and just started watching his videos more often. I think he should get the 17VS C because he does more bundlewod. I will get one Bob I promise!
I have the new Axis. But I save every vertical splitter video to a playlist.
Thanks George!
Be neat to see what direction Brent goes. 😉👍
I agree, this might complicate his decision...
I look forward to see brent get addicted to the vertical machine
Thank you!
That splitter looks like a beast. Great Job Bob
Thank you!
Looking forward to getting the call that our 17vs is going into paint. I'm stacking the rounds to give it a proper break in...
You are going to love it, and thank you for choosing Wolfe Ridge!
Great video Bob as always! Merry Christmas and Happy New Year
Thank you Pat, same to you!
Bob,another excellent video from around the yard 😮😊❤
Thanks Todd!
Such an awesome splitter!!👍💪💪👊
Thank you!
hi there interesting show , best to all john
Thanks John!
Great Video as always Bob. That VS-17 Is a great Machine. It's a Liitle to Much for me Now. Out.of my Price Range but if I had the Money I would Definitely get the One with the Conveyor. Nice looking Totes for your BundleWood, and Roadside Stand. Just keep me in Mind Bob if you happen to be getting a Used 1 in. Ron from the Woodyard in Upstate NY.
Thanks Ron, will keep you in mind! Hope you had a Merry Christmas!
Merry Christmas to you guys love your videos
Same to you, and thank you!
Holy smokes did I miss something what happened to your hand Bob? I hope you’re all right man.
It has been messed up for more than a year but I finally had surgery 2 weeks ago. This annoying cast comes off tomorrow!
@ wow I was not aware. I’m happy to hear you’ve gotten it fixed, well we hope right. Hope you had a merry Christmas and I wish you a happy new year as well.
So the throttle switch has been changed? Multiple settings now? That is much nicer if this is how I saw it.
On the VS-C we use the v-twin that uses this controller. The VS is still the standard switch for low and high.
Looks like an awesome machine! Question: can you get the 17VS without the electronic throttle control?
No, the only way these are built is with the iGX engines with electronic throttle.
@BacktoBob1 Thanks for the reply. That's the only negative, in my opinion. I want as little electronics/technology in my equipment as possible. (simple reliability is what I like)
@ I can understand your concern. These have been really good on the electronics side. I think we had one digital panel have an issue in the past year and we got it replaced right away.
@BacktoBob1 No doubt that Wolf Ridge customer service is top-notch!
But, when I'm ready to purchase (3-6 months from now), I will not buy this model because of that electronic throttle. Nor will I buy any other machine that has similar technologies. Sorry, I'm just a dinosaur. 😅
Not 100% sure I'm going with a vertical unit (still considering the 28C as one of my top picks)
@ Let me know if you have any questions about any of the machines. Also check out the Wolfe Ridge Owners group on Facebook. Have a good night!
I opened my tube and it is not waterproof. It was tight and it has the rubber gasket. Nothing but wet paper. Love my 17 VS C
Oh no that’s no good! Send us a contact request on the website with your info and we can mail out some replacement manuals.
Should have called me I could have done some vids with you guys
Why is he looking to get rid of the blue horizontal??
Going from a 30 inch stroke to 24 inch stroke, and just change things up a bit.
Lol scared it's going get his hand .... keep it on side and low you will be fine...
I always stress - never put hands on top of the log.
I know that is a wonderful machine, the vs17-c but what was that tinny sound at begining, stop it any way you can!
Might be the conveyor chain you hear?
Can you control the conveyor speed?
@ On this machine, the conveyor speed is fixed. It does have forward and reverse though.
