For ground cover you might consider stonecrop, there is a wide variety available in many forms and colors - blue spruce, dragon's blood, zipper plant, etc., or choose a native one. There's also low-growing native plants like bunchberry, wild ginger and bearberry.
I definitely appreciate some whimsy and fairytale vibes. Love your work so much 💕! Add a gas fireplace, a few pygmy goats and mini donkey and I’d be more than willing to move into the chicken palace 🤣🥰
Creeping Jenny ground cover. Low to the ground and manageable. I’m in Tennessee, zone 6a. It tends to brown in the winter but comes back in the spring.
Oh MY Gosh! What an imagination you have..Love this! Love this, Somone needs to hire you for a park area, so you can create all these little enchanting nicks and crannys for all the kids to come to visit, how fun\\ Just do you Mike! so cute and all the perfect plants around it. thanks for sharing! Genie : )
I really enjoy watching your process. Love your plant combinations. I like to make fairy gardens, but I do it on a much smaller scale. Jill from Sydney Australia.
So cool! FYI. I had a sweet potato vine that I dug up for the winter. Found a potato under it. Stored the potato over winter and potted it up in the spring for a brand new sweet potato vine.
I love your creativity, whimsy and unique gardening style. I have been following you a little over a year and I watch your videos and try to garden like your style. I am horrible at it…. I am not going to give up though…
One thing I do when you take your camera and pan around your property, I glance to see your neighbor's top of their houses, but my eye is drawn down to below your fenceline, all the beauty of your trees, shrubs, plants, and garden art is absolutely stunning! That's what keeps me coming back to your garden videos, what you do with your backyard!
You’ve created a sub climate/culture for you and your family, keeping eyes from watching you, muffling the noise. Brilliantly! Love your whimsical style and using what nature provides. Rain? Last rain here was Feb. , hottest year so far on record… Blessings to you and yours. ✨💖✨
I love what you do Mike. Just a suggestion...you went through all that work putting in the whiskey barrel, how about leaving it open so you can see in. Add plants or creatures in there peeking out. Love what you come up with!
Once again an amazing transformation…..sweet woodruff would be an awesome ground cover….very whimsical & grows and spreads beautifully over the years….transplanting cuttings over time is abundant as well …I live in zone 6 and it does wonderfully 😊
I LOVE the whimsy!! This Hobbit house is terrific ❤ I think the idea of lighting behind the door would give it a magical feel as if any moment a Hobbit may step out. Just a thought, how about a little chimney up top? A chimney is not really necessary as it is perfect as is, but was just a thought. Thank you for doing these projects. It gives us all inspiration. Keep up with the amazing work. 😊❤
Mike it looks absolutely wonderful, I love this style so much. Like your idea to grade the hill to the left, I think that will look extra lovely. The ferns are amazing. What a cute little door handle too 😊 I would suggest brunnera if you want to add more plants and in the spring there would be frothy blue flowers. Gorgeous.
I love that kind of “surprise” in the garden, something different 👍 But no window this time 😁yes I know their no space, but a little mini tiny…is possible?? Just give me an idea. Blessings fir all
Love the whimsy style you’re going with… it lets you imagination go wild… looking for ground cover thyme has become a favorite of mine. Thanks for sharing
What a great yard surprise: Unexpected, artistic, delightful! You inspire me to raise the ground here and there, and make some interesting spots on the otherwise flat Iowa yard that I have. Thanks for sharing. 😊
You asked for suggestions on ground cover for this project. Great job by the way. My thinking is that Irish or Scottish moss would look great. It does spread slowly but it’s one of my favorites in one of my gardens that contains rocks. A very nice combination.
Such a cute bit of whimsy! I was thinking aslyum (sp?) its tiny flowers would look cute growing in all the spots & it would grow around the little walkway steps too. Great job!!
I love it when you post new videos! I believe you have created an enchanting garden when you walk through your gate, and I’m looking forward to seeing your landscape lighting next year. There’s a light colored ajuga, Burgundy Glow, that would bring in a different color but same shape as your existing ajuga. Lamium, and Creeping Jenny, but those might really go to town. Ground covers are tricky, good luck!
What a treat getting a new video late in the season! Your imagination never ceases to amaze me. The ferns look so good surrounding the roof and the wooden steps and mini wheelbarrow just gave it that final touch. Love it
Licorice plant aka helichrysum is a great green silver groundcover. You put that log right on that whiskey barrel… it will only be a matter of time before the log collapses the barrel. You need to add something underneath the log so that it doesn’t sit right on it. Ask me how I know. Lol. It looks awesome though. And I’m not all that into whimsy but it is cute! I figured you would leave the barrel open and plant something in there but that isn’t near as whimsical!
Greetings from Olathe! I love this! I love the height you get by layering the ferns on top. It makes the garden seem larger, oddly. Everything you do turns out so well, and gives great ideas, thank you for sharing! Oh and I can't wait to see a light shining from inside that door! Are you going with low-voltage? Excited to see that next year!
If you want a ground cover that loves a bit of shade that has magical low growling little white or blue star shaped flowers, I would suggest blue star creeper or mazus.
❤❤❤❤❤
Absolutely love everything you do! Great imagination. You inspire me to add fantasy into my own garden. I’m enchanted!
I love your whimsy style! Makes me want to go hunting around and see what kind of cute vignettes I can create on my own property!

I love the wood log with the ferns. Looks like it's been there forever.

You have done it again! You have a wonderful creative mind ! Thank you

I'm Gobsmacked! What a fantastical creation Mike. You maxed out the whimsical meter! 🐢
I really enjoy watching your process. Love your plant combinations. I like to make fairy gardens, but I do it on a much smaller scale. Jill from Sydney Australia.
I don’t know why you don’t have 100,000 followers! People have simply not found you. You are amazing!
Thank you for the kind words!!
Well, you’ve gone and done it again! Absolutely love all the changes you made and the new little hobbit house! So darn cute♥️♥️🪴🌲💐
This is so flipping cute!!! Love it! I gotta try it! Great job! Thanks for the idea!!!
So cool! FYI. I had a sweet potato vine that I dug up for the winter. Found a potato under it. Stored the potato over winter and potted it up in the spring for a brand new sweet potato vine.

Your creativity knows no bounds!! Great Work!
I love your garden. I wish I had your imagination. I'm totally lacking 😂😂 👍👍👍
I love what you do Mike. Just a suggestion...you went through all that work putting in the whiskey barrel, how about leaving it open so you can see in. Add plants or creatures in there peeking out. Love what you come up with!
I think that’s a very good idea, maybe slightly ajar so you just get a peak inside, especially if you have the lighting added ❤
I was totally thinking the same thing, leave it open. Maybe add some figurines and make it a larger scale fairy garden.
Ajuga would be a great ground cover there.
Another amazing transformation! Love your videos and the happiness they bring!
Great fun project!! Skullcap might be a good look for the front where you’re looking for a different ground cover.
Once again an amazing transformation…..sweet woodruff would be an awesome ground cover….very whimsical & grows and spreads beautifully over the years….transplanting cuttings over time is abundant as well …I live in zone 6 and it does wonderfully 😊
This turned out lovely and it looks like it has been there for some time. ❤

I can't explain why, but I love the sound of a chainsaw😂

Love love love! Would love to see in person on one of my trips to KC.
And just like that…another delightful area and it looks like it’s been there forever.
Good morning 😊 I am always in awe of your creations/gardens. It is absolutely INCREDIBLE how you create! Thank you for sharing 😊
Ground cover - Selaginella, creeping thyme, wooly thyme, creeping Jenny might work nicely in those bare spots or maybe one of those pathway plants.
Wow, that is so beautiful. Your brain must be constantly working, thinking what to create next in your garden. It's just another awesome idea. 😊❤
You are so talented. Thanks for sharing your ideas with us. Have you tried sweet woodruff as a ground cover? Works well in my New Jersey yard.
Love the lungwart and ferns. Keep that thicker fuller beard.
Love the whimsy style you’re going with… it lets you imagination go wild… looking for ground cover thyme has become a favorite of mine.
Thanks for sharing
Hellebores grow beautifully under birch trees. Love your garden!
Absolutely love it
I love the newest whimsical area! The ferns and the log are perfect right there. Great job. ❤😊
What a great yard surprise: Unexpected, artistic, delightful!

Some of the new Yarrow would work around the birch trees if it gets enough sun. They don't like much water.
Wow! That is incredible!
Such imagination you have! Turned out so well, fun fun project.
It looks like it has always been there. The plants highlight that focal point. I love that you use what you have. You guys inspire us!
Love it! I imagine a hedge hog peeping out near the door.🦔
I love your vision. You have a lot going on. The more you grow the more you know.💐
There are 2 More Colors of Ajuga For your ground cover. I love it for ground cover. This is beautiful
Whimsy is certainly my thing.😊 Beautiful

Wow, what a great transformation! Now I want a hobbit house garden. . .
Looks great! Can’t wait to see how this spot matures.. . Imagination coming to life! Do heathers do well in your area? That might be a nice addition.
I like the dark pink door much better.
I am at an awe at what you can build great job
This is too cute!! I'm going to have an ugly shared I want to camouflage and something like this would be AMAZING!
I forgot the word "wall" I see 😂

Dwarf mondo grass would look nice.
If you want a ground cover that loves a bit of shade that has magical low growling little white or blue star shaped flowers, I would suggest blue star creeper or mazus.
Irish moss would be lovely. Or you could add thyme for a ground cover.
Love it!!!! How about some Irish moss for a ground cover?
WOW
I wonder if you can get moss to grow, that would be really pretty and somewhere soft for the hobbets and fairy's to walk on..Genie : )
❤
Very nice!❤ How about a stream made of blue glass pebbles?
Do you ever do garden tours? I live in the Kansas City area and would love to see your garden in person sometime!
Sure do. The next tour won’t be until May. Keep in touch and thank you for watching.
Try sedum for low ground cover, lots of color and texture
Awesome video. Have you seen invitation of Electric Pole Saws via email today?
You have done a beautiful job with your yard! What type and brand of bag dirt do you use? Thanks….again, great job!
What about some snowdrop bulbs in the front.
Your face hair makes you look more mature. Like 🎅 in a good way for now...jeff
