Beautiful song or beautifully sung? Or both? This song is an admittedly impressive cover, the original is by Bernice Johnson Reagon (October 4, 1942 - July 16, 2024) from her album "Give Your Hands to Struggle", which was first released in 1975 and reissued in 1997.
My partner of 14 years has recently been diagnosed with terminal cancer, and this song is seriously crying out to me. Such a beautiful, soulful and meaningful song x
I lost my long-term fiancé to a massive brain stroke' I woke up to find him unresponsive ' he was taken by 🚁 to the hospital within 2 hours I was told he was brain-dead. 7 hours later I permitted to removing life support. It will be 5 years in October .Our son was a baby , Sending love & healing lights 🙏🏾🙏🏾🙏🏾❤❤❤

53 AND CRYING LIKE A BABY!! Makes me think of the people I lost in such a short period of time (3-5yrs) Mum/Dad/Gran/ My Wife/Mother In-law/father In-law. I miss them all so much and still feel the pain to this day, but there is not a night I don't look upwards and think of them all. If I could turn the clock backwards even if it was only to say I love them one last time I sure as hell would do it. To Sir Tom Jones I know your pain on losing your wife its something that you just cant describe and can never really get over. I lost my wife to Alcoholism, but we had just under a year together where my wife never drank a drop and will always remember the night when I was lying down with my head in her lap and my wife stroking my beard she turned to me and said "This is how it should of been" My wife died just 4 days after that. This song brings back the sadness but in a good way as i remember all the good times we had had. Much love and respect to you all ❤❤

Man, nowadays there's such genuine emotion in Sir Tom's voice, not that he was ever lacking; there’s just a little less bravado to the power and a lot more honesty. And, my goodness, the phrasing…never thought I’d compare him to Sinatra, but there’s a "talking" quality now that makes the lyrics that much more moving and meaningful. Forget about The Voice-Tom is THE voice.

This! I never liked him when I was younger. My grandmother loved him, my mom too. In his younger years it was all about the power and persona. I heard him recently on The Voice (a short clip on FB) and was blown away. Honestly didn't even recognize who he was. There is so much more truth, honesty, and depth to his voice these days.

I've lost most of the people who mean everything to me in my life. My mother, the remaining one, is still here at almost 88 years old. The worst part of growing older isn't the pain or the limitations. The worst part is the goodbyes. I do believe we'll all be together again someday. I hope that will be enough to keep me from crumbling before I fall. God bless you, Tom. He has surely blessed you with a voice and a gift.

As soon as I hear Tom's voice I recognise it as his. He did say he lost a top note but gained a bottom so yes it has got deeper as he aged.

Melinda knew she was dying and actually told her husband to carry on with his singing and he mustn't give up. Imagine the shiver he felt when he heard this song. He didn't write it, yet the words fit so perfectly through his long term love of his wife.

It has come to my notice that some of my fans thinks I was the person who died. Late jones was The one who conceived the twist on Romeo and Juliet with composer John Donald Robb.
He died 11th August, of cancer in his home in Sharon.
I’m still alive and much healthy.
