Princes, UA-cam channel has recently been posting full-length concerts from the past, and they are all absolutely amazing. I can’t even stand how good they are, I have to pause it sometimes.
I’ve played guitar for over 30 years and can tell you that Prince is cream of the crop on guitar. He is, however, not known for it because of his fabulous voice and stage presence. He’s a monster.
Damn!.. I think only those who have been to his concerts would know this... I never knew he had these skills on his guitar.. Don't get me wrong and as you've pointed out his other talents are usually forefront in his albums but he never expressed enough with his guitar on them. Now I am getting a chance to see more of his live work, brought in by his part in the tribute to George Harrison "While My Guitar Weeps"....And yes, guitar is my fav instrument in a band, especially the electric..
Absolutely! My jaw dropped when I saw a video of his solo on “While my guitar gently weeps” at the MTV with Tom Petty back in 2004. To think that there are approximately 2000 unreleased songs in a vault in Minneapolis is unbearable.
Hello, Fil...🤘it is thanks to you that i listened to Prince..! Brillant man,.but your dazzling smiley sweeps Prince performances...Fil..., You make me die...!💌 M'y kisses, m'y tears at your feet..🏹🏹🫂 🏹🏹🫂.
I'm a Minneapolis old head who was lucky enough to follow Prince from is second concert on. My parents wouldn't let me go to North Minneapolis late to see his first show but I tried my best to see everyone after that. Let me tell you that the best of times is when he would just lose himself for an hour just jamming on the guitar or piano! It was amazing and something special to see! What's also great is that he left us with so much that now seven years after he's passed I still see and hear new stuff all the time! They said he has enough in the vault for 100 years....
I believe people underrate Prince as a guitarist because he was so good at everything. It gets lost in the mix. Songwriting, singing, charisma, stage presence, production chops... He had it all. Same as how people forget Hendrix was also a great songwriter and lyricist, or how great and powerful a singer SRV was.
Yep, that's what I was saying as well. Similar to Paul McCartney often forgotten for the great bass player he is because of everything else he can do. Geminis, Geminis, so versatile, it can play against us ;)
It also has a lot to do with his style. Most of his fans aren't guitar fans. He could've definitely worked a guitar solo album in for us but that would have alienated most of his fans. I and most musicians I know always knew that Prince was a better guitarist than most that made their entire career playing.
Prince literally did not have enough ways through which to express his talent and genius. He wrote all of his music, did all of his own choreography-and that of Revolution, played every instrument on every track, oh, and designed his own clothes and costumes, developed new artist/label contractual paradigms, all while initiating an explosive revolution in music.
Absolute pro level, and it's worth mentioning, just how well the band stays with him. They are on the beat, and are following his every signal with keen focus. It's a team effort, and they support the leader like true professionals.
So many people have no idea Prince was a guitar virtuoso. Plus, he has recorded entire albums where he plays ALL the instruments. He's a crazy bass player BTW.
I've seen him play dozens and dozens of times over the years in various venues (intimate parties, small bars & clubs, medium sized theaters, large concert halls, and at Paisley Park many times) and each performance was incredible. I miss him terribly.
Small club Prince and Paisley Park Prince are the best concerts. Yup! I’ve seen him in all these too. The closest I’ve ever been is in Paisley Park (right in front of the mic) but the best was the small club called City Winery NY. He rocked us until 6 am. Stunning! My favorite Prince concert of all.
People like Prince are so good - because they absolutely believe in their own abilities and because of this have absolute rock solid confidence to just go for it - anytime and with anything. Prince once said that he played every show like it was his last -and you can feel that!
In my opinion Prince is the Greatest Musician to walk the Earth. He could do Everything, virtually a one man band. The world is a worse place without him. Rest in Peace Prince, your Legacy will live on. 💜🐐💜🐐💜🐐💜
So true i don't think a huge amount of people appreciate the freakish talent this human had. Could sing, song write for multiple artists, entertain, play just about every instrument there was and self taught. He was once in a life time, no one has ever been close to true musical talent or i doubt they will .
Prince was such a uniquely charismatic individual and entertainer. When he took the stage, you couldn't help but watch him. I found him absolutely mesmerizing.
I was a lukewarm fan and was prepared to be bored by his 2007 Super Bowl halftime when he performed, but Prince absolutely OWNED the show. It was raining and that would have dampened a lot of performances. Not Prince. He embraced it ... the rain became part of the show ... he rocked it far better than any show before or since. I paid attention since then to his virtuosity. Like SRV, one of the geniuses of his generation.
That by far was the best Superbowl performance ever !!! God it was perfect and when he jumped into "All Along the Watchtower" I was in tears because it was such a perfect moment. I can't even tell you who played in that game, but I damn sure know that Prince put on a show.
I love the interview where the guy who produced that show said he was sick with terror the entire performance that someone would get electrocuted. Agreed, best Super Bowl show, no one will ever surpass it.
That halftime performance was the first time I got my friends to believe me about just how good he was... He rocked America that day... Like Hendrix did playing the star spangled banner at Woodstock. People finally noticed ...
I just think Prince was on another level entirely. Such a musical genius... I have to tell you I had a rough time choosing between watching Prince and watching you react to him. Terrific analysis, Fil...
I grew up on Prince, and I adored him. My parents thought he was a weirdo because of how he dressed and looked, but I loved that about him. When my dad finally heard him do a guitar solo at a concert he took me to, he got it. He was blown away. He said he couldn't believe it was the same guy. I told my dad, "As IF I'd love some half-rate musician. I have better taste than that, dad." That made him gut laugh...
It took me years to comprehend the greatness that was Prince. Now I wonder why. I guess I was just too young to understand and appreciate his out-of-this world talent.
I didn’t get Prince either for so long. My wife always loved Prince however and in in the early 90s she got tickets to see him live at Sheffield Arena, UK. I have to say that I was not in the least enthusiastic about going to the show and would have done anything to avoid the long drive down there. I am so glad that I did go however as Prince put on one of the very best shows I have ever seen. What a guitarist!!! He also played, Bass. Drums, keyboards/piano, saxophone etc.. He was on stage for well over two hours and I have to say that i left the show as a massive fan. I think that his amazing songwriting skills often overshadowed his abilities as a guitarist etc. A huge talent and a massive miss but at least we have his prolific musical output to explore and enjoy. Great video
Oh, how I wish you could have seen Prince live, Fil - what a treat! My late baby sister turned me on to him in the late 70s - early 80s. I got to see him at the Forum here in L.A. back then, and again at this concert you show here in 2011. A great musician and performer gone way too soon.
I love watching Prince play the guitar. He’s up there with the best to ever play, but visually he has no equal. Not even the great Jimi Hendrix, and he was a joy to behold. The ultimate showman.
It seems like he's not trying but you are really seeing the result of endless hours of practice and playing . He has a natural talent but without all the hard work , it would never show itself like this .
Bro, it's ok to let Prince be one of your guitar gods. We now get to see Prince's guitar playing on UA-cam now that he's gone. He was badass. Glad you're into Prince now, better late then never.
Prince's 2nd show at the 2009 Montreux Jazz Festival is the best video I've seen of the phenomenon you describe. For starters, he brings a tiny band with no other guitarists, so every single guitar note you hear throughout is 100% Prince -- and not just playing great but also having an obvious great time playing. Sound just flows out of him like liquid magic. Both those shows are fantastic, and the first is probably his best recorded performance ever ... except that means he's already warmed up to that level from the very start of the second set, and omfg I don't know words to describe what goes down after that. Watch for yourself, you'll see I am not kidding.
@@MisterRlGHT Wow, incredible stuff indeed, thank you!!! Absolutely faultless as ever from the few bits I've watched so far, mesmerizing. A very interesting setlist indeed for both too. Prince knew hundreds if not thousands of songs and was able to improvise perfect guitar and vocal parts flawlessly on the spot. Astounding talent.
I think Prince was such a total showman, band leader, composer, and cagey businessman that his guitar work got lost in the shadows for most reporters and critics.
There was a video with Prince doing an interview saying he didn't trust reporters saying they cant be trusted because they lie a lot and u tube took that off in the wake of the lying dirt bags they are they didn't want a video with Prince going against there narrative.
I've basically been a Rock/Metal guy my whole life. So whatever your influences are, you tend to gravitate around that genre. Prince was huge and we all know his big hits, but it's a pleasure to hear stuff like this and reflect on how truly talented he was! I'd have never thought to go down this rabbit hole, so I'm glad for this little trip outside my comfort zone. The man could drop a beat! that's for sure..
Cut me and I bleed metal but love prince! He can shred with the best, like on doves cry or let’s go crazy but he can bring the funk, play the blues and everything he does has soul. Truly one of the greats.
As a musician and a instrumentalist i consider Prince one of the greatest, as a singer songwriter i would not rank him very high! Purple Rain is the only song that is worth mentioning to be great in my opinion, and his singing abilities is questionable in my opinion!
you forget to add Prince was the best, or definitely one of the very best live performers. . I have been fortunate to see some of the greats in concert through 50 odd years, and I would say Prince was head and shoulders above all of them.
Yes, the whole package is what is insane. Few singers or instrumentalists compose anything, let alone a ton of top level stuff. Amongst those that do, how many have had anything like Prince's moves and stage presence? Although his musical genre is not my favorite, his almost unique greatness at excelling in soooo many things has to be recognized.
I used to be a Prince fan in the late 80s up to the early 90s. Then I went full on into hard rock and he waded in my mind. Then in 2007 he was playing in the O2 and my then manager/friend and I decided to go. We hopped on a plane to London and I had bought 3 tickets. The third person couldn't and so we had a ticket left (which I still have on my wall). We had seats on the first elevate row and space to stand because of the empty seat. And I am not bragging if I say that as a former player I have been to hundreds of festivals and concerts but that was THE BEST EVER! Musically it was so tidy! The sound was ASTONISHING! I don't know if the acoustics of the O2 played part but it was a perfect mix. And Prince really was super into it as well. Best show ever! Such enormous talent on that stage. Goosebumps!
I watched Prince play like that at a club in London for about 4 hours one night, back in '88. Right after his Lovesexy concert at Wembley arena. Played a tele just like that w a Vox wah...solo'd nearly the whole time. The only thing different was he wore only jeans and a white t-shirt and 4 other guys playing with him. It was special for sure. Prince absolutely ripped on guitar
You lucky duck you!! I too saw him in '88 on the Lovesexy tour...picture it, Seattle 1988, at Seattle Center. Prince and me. He was singing to me and ONLY ME!! Had GREAT seats...6th row or so as I recall. FAN-FREAKING-TASTIC!!! Will never, EVER forget it...Had to beg my mother to buy the ticket for me as I was a jobless senior in high school...monies well spent!!!!
One of the great things about a Prince concert. When you see the crowd it really is a melting pot of colour and different races. That man could unite all people with his music. Not many artists could do that.
My friend was a Prince fan so I started listening to him too. I was playing a prince tape on a two hour highway drive and my son, who could barely talk at the time, heard the song “Girls and Boys.” He loved it and would yell “AGAIN” every time the song finished. Over and over and over. If I tried to play something else, he’d scream from his carseat like he was on fire. Two hours of one song on a loop. What a nightmare! I can still hear that song ringing in my head and that was many years ago.
1. Eric Clapton said he was the world’s best guitar player. 2. He’s on the Rolling Stone list of top 100 guitarists of all time. 3. 95% of the time he’s on stage he has a guitar in his hands, including the Super Bowl performance which reached about 4 million viewers. 4. I literally don’t know, or know of, anyone who doesn’t know what a great guitarist he was. Which two people on planet Earth are you talking about that “hardly ever recognize” his guitar ability?
i feel like he is the most overrated artist ever imho. he hid behind effects so we cant exactly hear what he's doing. he was just riffing like we did when we first started playing guitar. he sang the same way though truly. most successful poser, i will give him that.
@@walley2637 At age 19, he put out an album on which he wrote all the songs, played all the instruments, and did all the production and sound engineering. Eric Clapton called him the best guitarist in the world. And you are…?
I have a feeling Prince would not have been second best on stage with any guitarist, any genre, any level. His ability to express his feelings through his own music is unparalleled. Great choice Fil!
A dear friend’s husband brought acts out to Australia and in 1992 Prince came down under on tour for two weeks. She was host to him and says he was very shy, quiet and polite but when he went on stage it was like a switch was flicked. The music came through him like magic. The energy was palpable. He was a beautiful soul with a strong aura.
That was very good solo!!.....playing that long a solo and keeping the dynamics top notch . And being able to strut around on stage and not even paying attention to the guitar neck!...... All these amazing ideas while looking off into space . Great vibrado ! That was something!!!!!
Almost every musician said watching prince play the guitar was just like watching an extension of himself . .just pure feeling ..that gift isn't earthly
My daughter works at a music venue in Toronto so I was able to see him 3 times. I'm 72 and have seen them all, Beck, Vaughn, Kath, Healey etc., What surprised me most about Prince was his guitar playing. Very under-rated.
People are only beginning to understand Prince's guitar skills since seeing the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame performance. Go back and listen to his first albums when he was just 18 years old. He was already shredding at that age, let alone writing, arranging, performing and producing everything himself!
Yeah would have loved to see this in perxon. He's not only playing great music, he put together a great and enthusiastic band, dancers. and the whole show on a cool stage. He's not holding back anything for his audience.. Great respect for a musician who delivers! He could have just played guitar and we'd be happy but he gave the audience all he could.
For guitarists who say Prince is overated, All I can say is the GREAT ones make it look easy. And Prince always makes it look like he's not even trying.
@@nihlify I don't form my opinions based on what someone allegedly said. Unfortunately, there is a lot of "he's great because [somebody famous] said so". 😂🤣
@@AdaptivePhenix it's such a common urban legend that this person or that person says what is it like to be the greatest guitarist, Hmm I don't know, maybe ask Prince or John or Mark or whoever. It's highly unlikely that Eric Clapton hasn't met 100 great guitar players, and many we haven't heard of.
Ever since I heard him play in Let's Go Crazy (when I was introduced to his music), I told everyone what an amazing guitarist he was. This one is almost Stevie Ray-Vaughan-esque in its delivery. Fantastic.
I never got to see him in concert, have loved him since “Purple Rain” had no idea until the R&R Hall of Fame video came out how instrumentally brilliant he was.
Prince is a guitar GOD. I’ve seen and heard many great guitar performances, both recorded and live, but there was something about what Prince did that’s on a whole other level. I’ve heard people say that when he played his guitar was an extension of his voice, no separation between him and the guitar. What a loss.
If you watch the antics and the over the top solo that Prince does at the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame tribute to George Harrison playing While My Guitar Gently Weeps, you will see him full throttle. The reason why he went over the top was a recent article had been released in Rolling Stone that listed the top 100 guitar players of all time, Prince was not anywhere on the list. He was completely omitted on it. This infuriated him so much that he used that performance as a statement. Another great example of Prince being incredible on guitar is his Super Bowel live performance.
The Superbowl performance of Prince was out of this world. The professionalism of pulling that of with that weather and actually blow the roof of with Purple Rain in the rain.... Words fail me.
ChristopherBuzzell --- Never realized he was so good until I saw him do on his Tele "While My Guitar Gently Weeps" for tribute to George. I think Prince was omitted from the best list because of The Purple Thing. At the time I had no interest in him because of The Purple Thing!
@@rogertycholiz2218 I agree. When I was going to school in MN in the mid-80s, it seemed like his music was everywhere. I didn't really care for it. Years later, when I saw his solo on 'While My Guitar Gently Weeps' it completely changed my opinion of him.
Prince’s I’m yours from his 1978 debut album “For You” gave the first taste of what was to come from him as a guitarist 🔥🔥then Bambi (1979 “ Prince “) album, he plays everything… mind blowing only 17 -19 years old 🤯🤯🤯🤯🤯
He also plays a blistering solo in "While My Guitar Gently Weeps" at the Hall of Fame intro for George Harrison. My hubs is the Prince fan. I'm not crazy about most of his songs, but there is no doubt Prince was one of the absolute best guitarists in rock music. His musicianship is peerless. Thanks for the analysis. It was fascinating! Peace!
That's the one where Prince stylishly throws his Guitar to the side at the end, but his bodyguard buddee misses it and it hits the security guard on the head, concussing him.
Prince's videos are like a big Vault full of precious things . Now he's no more underrated as a guitar soloist but his energy on stage was unmatched , every video is full of magic ...
Prince is more then a guitar player. He's one of the BEASTS of guitar (besides Jimi Hendrix and Jimmy Page)! Love his performance from his 1984/85 Purple Rain, 2004 Rock & Roll Hall of Fame and 2007 Super Bowl Halftime.
@@groofoot Damn that's pretty high praise, I'm a General in the Purple army (life long Prince fan) and even I don't rank Prince ahead of Jimi Hendricks.
Prince brilliant as usual !! Hints of SRV at around @1:30 ish! But wow killer band!! John Blackwell on the drums is just explosive!! Wow!! Rest In Peace Prince and J Blackwell Too
Prince was one of the greatest musicians. I never realized this until now. I’m 53 years old and grew up listening to Hendrix, Page, Clapton, Van Halen, etc. I realize now that Prince is in the same class as them, perhaps better. Lots of stretching with the notes and creative stuff. Live-he shines. What a cool dude! Sorry I didn’t realize this sooner.
You are not the only one -- the people in Minneapolis already knew it from when he was a kid, us fans have known it for decades, & now thanks to UA-cam, the rest of the world is finally finding out & catching up...
Prince was incredible as a musician and singer. He is a prime example of an 'Ultimate Showman'! Fil, I have faith that people will continue appreciating the music of the 60s, 70s, and 80s for a very long time. Great music in an eclectic range of treasures appreciated and played by younger generations like yourself makes me happy.☮❤
Great Job explaining what Prince was doing in that guitar solo! Being one of my all-time favorite musicians, ever, I've always known he was an amazing guitar player and it's good to see people recognizing that.
I was lucky to see Prince live a couple of times in the late 80's and early 90's. What an absolutely outstanding performer. Without doubt, the greatest showman I've ever seen. I don't think there's ever been anyone else quite like him. And maybe there never will. Thanks for making this video, Prince's guitar playing often gets overlooked.
The thing about this solo and most of the stuff you see him play live is, he's winging it. Improvising as he goes along. How talented do you have to be to be able to produce that out of thin air? Man was a genius
He was ….not one concert I saw did He play songs the same way , that’s the marking of a Genius Purple Rain a thousand times and a thousand times different, that’s mind-blowing He is and Always will be The Most Talented , Complete musician to Ever walk this earth
Well said! @PAULWHITE and us mortal creators wouldn't dare attempt anything like this epic solo, and that mesmerizing sound quality at that. We would be overly concerned about a major, unforgettable mishap onto the stage leaving us unforgiving of our own embarrassment. Prince was like none other. And there will never be anyone into his stratospheric land of musical gifts.
That guitar prince is playing is a "Hohner Madcat" not a "Fender Telecaster". Very similar in shape and was his favorite guitar among many. Same one used in the famous HOF solo that he throws in the air in 2004. And the Drummer is playing in "the pocket" which allows Prince to improvise not just here, but later in the song when he does a bass solo as well. All his drummers were pocket drummers who could keep a tempo on cue, with the exception of Hannah maybe. Love her but she played different. Anyway that allowed him more space to improvise without having to constantly practice. His band mates will tell you that you always had to be ready for his cues because he didn't even know what he was going to do, he thinks it and it pours out.
Hohner “MadCat” guitar - close, though! I took lessons at a place back in the 70’s that sold those - the owner always referred to them as a “professional” guitar. As a teen, I scoffed at a Hohner being anything a pro would play - only a Gibson or Fender for this young wannabe! Now I wish I would’ve bought one!
A bit of trivia - I stumbled across the live show that most of the guitar parts in Purple Rain came from and Prince was playing his MadCat, not that white thing shown in the movie.
My god - Prince is just astounding! Other planetary. Thank you so much for this Fil - Your wealth of knowledge, your ear, amazing skill, and passion for music are so impressive and much appreciated!!
Even his guitar solos in pre concert sound checks and rehearsals were legendary. He was also an excellent piano player as well. The best demonstration of that was his posthumously released album Piano & A Microphone which is a collection of demos that he recorded in 1983 using a cassette tape recorder. For the sake of accuracy Prince’s early Telecasters were not Fenders but knock offs made by a company named Hohner.
He had a sponsorship deal. I have a couple of the Steinberger licensed Hohners. They’re both great guitars, both over thirty years old and still solid.
Totally agree! Soundchecks and rehearsals were sometimes better than the actual show and albums. Here's a perfect example, out of this world!! ua-cam.com/video/DKEMFWFxerk/v-deo.html
Prince is without question the most underrated Guitar God of All-Time... when I see Prince I easily see his influences... I see Jimi Hendrix, Sly Stone, James Brown and Little Richard... Prince Rogers Nelson was an absolutely incredible Rockstar!
Prince always said that people liked to compare him to Jimi because both of them were black but who he really liked playing like was Carlos Santana he said cant you hear it? Prince played like only one person... PRINCE no one else there is no other no matter what anyone else says the man was always all by himself he was in a class all his own. And why they always tried to compare him to MJ is beyond me cause MJ was a one trick pony Prince did everything and he did it better then everyone else and he let his work speak for him.
Prince was amazing. I’m of the age group that saw him when he first appeared on American Bandstand and simply fell in love with his style, talent, presence, music, the number of instruments he was so skilled at playing, and of course, his voice.
Wow! Amazing performance. The energy from all on stage was terrific. Have been a fan of Prince since back in the day. Always loved his sass along with his talent (really like his boots!).
Prince was ABSOLUTELY a true musical virtuoso and musician...I do NOT say this simply out of respect from his passing. I have followed Prince's music since the 80's and he is a STUNNINGLY GREAT guitarist , pianist and bass player...along with SEVERAL other instruments !!!!! It is an HONEST and FULLY DESERVED compliment to call Prince a musical and guitar GENIUS !!!!!!
Dig the solo on "Why You Want To Treat Me So Bad?" from 1979. You will be astounded. Absolutely changed my head. I was lucky enough to stand about 30 feet away from him at a club gig in NYC (The Ritz) in 1980. A fearless guy in his underwear, playing every instrument with precision, soul, and expertise. He changed my ideas of what music could be. Thanks for the cool analysis.
When this hit UA-cam I went nuts. He's walking around like that guitar is a piece of him, (it is) no effort, so at ease and on FIRE! I'll never get enough of Prince and his guitar shreds. Amazing artist unlike any other - so missed, thank you! 💜🕊
How can you call a person that followed his dream, achieved success doing exactly what he wanted, without selling himself out and mastered a lot more than most of his peers ? Truly, and I’m not a crazy fan of Prince but a real admirer, I cannot bring to my mind a single artist that level up to Prince’s profesional height
A unique artist, he knew how to do everything... nothing was impossible for him and the rest of the musical panorama pales in comparison to his immense talent 💜

People like Prince are so good - because they absolutely believe in their own abilities and because of this have absolute rock solid confidence to just go for it - anytime and with anything. Prince once said that he played every show like it was his last -and you can feel that!

So true i don't think a huge amount of people appreciate the freakish talent this human had. Could sing, song write for multiple artists, entertain, play just about every instrument there was and self taught. Much better entertainer than Michael Jackson, he played guitar better than Michael danced!
🎯💯👍
The GREATEST Super Bowl halftime show of ALL TIME for sure!! My absolute favorite.
Prince was just a natural genius. He probably played that without even thinking about it. It just flowed out of him.
as did his charisma.....
Our own modern-day Mozart in my opinion. 👍
When u try 2 explain the funk, it isn t any funky anymore - Prince
I read somewhere obscure that he had never even heard the song until 2-3 days before the performance.
@@karendaugherty9840 i read this about is performance from "when my guitar gently weep". Anyway, Prince was not into music, he was music.
Just the way he sustains the pace and energy is amazing enough. But all the musical flourish and flair on top of it is truly next level.

Great video
Never heard him play any wind instrument... would love to listen to this... I hope the's some video that will be accessible soon, now I'm thirsty!
I love to read testimonies of the Prince converted. Great story
Oh, how I wish you could have seen Prince live, Fil - what a treat! My late baby sister turned me on to him in the late 70s - early 80s. I got to see him at the Forum here in L.A. back then, and again at this concert you show here in 2011. A great musician and performer gone way too soon.
You can definitely hold your own when it come to teaching and demonstrating what another guitar player is doing. cool solo by Prince.
Haha thanks!
I love the way you pick the solo apart in the way only a skilled guitarist can.

I love watching Prince play the guitar. He’s up there with the best to ever play, but visually he has no equal. Not even the great Jimi Hendrix, and he was a joy to behold. The ultimate showman.

One of rock’s most underrated guitarists. Thanks for excellent analysis.
He is not even trying....natural....very underated
It seems like he's not trying but you are really seeing the result of endless hours of practice and playing . He has a natural talent but without all the hard work , it would never show itself like this .
John Clark yep, natural talent will get you so far, then the hours and hours of practice starts
Talent is ability, performance is work, very hard work!
Bro, it's ok to let Prince be one of your guitar gods. We now get to see Prince's guitar playing on UA-cam now that he's gone. He was badass. Glad you're into Prince now, better late then never.
That guitar is an extension of his whole being. No person playing guitar moves and handles the guitar as effortlessly as he does. He is magic.

I would put Jimi in that category. For both it’s as if the guitar was part of their bodies.

@@stianmathisen4284 it’s interesting that your comment is schizophrenic.

Prince was a genius , not only as a musician but as a songwriter, dancer, singer...
There you have it in one sentence.
you forget to add Prince was the best, or definitely one of the very best live performers.
Prince was no genius at the drug game. Shame.
He’s not just playing, he’s performing and making it effortless.
I saw that video last night and was shocked beyond belief! Prince had talents most didn't get to see. RIP Prince.
One of the great things about a Prince concert. When you see the crowd it really is a melting pot of colour and different races. That man could unite all people with his music. Not many artists could do that.
That's it right there mano...music as our common thread, I went to at least 30 concerts, never a fight or disrespect from anyone in the crowd
Good on your son!! Great taste!! He said, "you're welcome!!"
Not a nightmare at all. Could have been baby shark bro.
Maybe the most underrated guitar player ever? He's a monster on guitar, but hardly ever recognized for it.
Recognized it in 1984...
Guitar, drums, piano, bass, saxophone, and all the other instruments he taught himself to play. AMAZING!

His artistic talent is so under appreciated.
@@superfishially Haha yes you are absolutely correct!!! I do that all the fricken time. SMH *Madcat.

First guitar solo I heard with Prince was While my guitar gently weeps and it blew my mind !
Even when he was on the junk on his last concerts...he sounds like a cross between Ellington,booker,Mozart.... genius!!!
Prince could play a bailing wire on orange crate and make great music.
Did some searching and he had the Hohner modified with strat pick ups. The signature model had Bill Lawrence pick ups.

Just a killer ganky, jangly Tele solo that only Prince could pull off. Good gawd, what a performance, and what tone.
Exactly!! What a tone!!
the tone of Tele is so Good 👌👌
I agree! But it's not a Tele, it's a Hohner Madcat 🐯
Tone and timing is unreal great!!
@@jaybo8043 finally someone correctly I.D. the guitar... thx
A unique artist, he knew how to do everything... nothing was impossible for him and the rest of the musical panorama pales in comparison to his immense talent 💜
This is one of my favourite analysis vids of yours.
