The mellow R & B concert sound & arrangements of FAMU & the uptemp, mellophone, intense high note trumpet, precision marching and brass sound arrangements of the Human Jukebox. If you put on a blindfold you can tell which band is which. Many bands in the SWAC and around the country INCLUDING J-STATE are leaning towards sounding like SU over the past 30 years. Many MEAC bands are sticking to their traditional full sounding arrangements. This is why SU always states "Often Imitated and Never Duplicated" The Human Jukebox invented the term "Crank". Many Louisiana and New Orleans high schools adopted this style years ago, which is why many HBCUs love to recruit from NOLA. NOLA high school trumpets learn to play above the register at an early age, especially in the 70's & 80's. Check your history & old videos from 30 years ago JUKE HATERS... hopefully they now have quality brass tubas to match the brass sound.
FDT you hit the hammer on that one .I learned to play octave from 6th grade and once you master that we usually went into the full musically type of arrangements. That WAS the thing that made us different from other states and bands.

nathan livingston Naw fam.. They will never reach the, level that Txsu, jsu, aamu in swac is on. Them the most consistent sections in the swac. They might be in the 4 spot but so far it sound like a lot of individualism in their section. They got a long road. A horn don't make you, it's the player.
tsumusicman86 I played in 88 - 90 our music was ALWAYS written regularly it just sounded that way due to the fact that the horns was f-glass, but METAL TUBAS ARE INDEED BETTER for BOTTOM after these boys keep POPPING THEM tubes like that, the breaking in progress will accelerate they need to keep on pressuring the horn into the true BASS horn it's supposed to be so GIVE em time and YOU'LL see the music is the same ....THE SOUND (if that's anyway possible) Got BETTER!

Yes this is a nice step for SU Tubas, BUT JSU Dawgs sound is unmatched. They will have to rearrange their music to match that sound. Also one person can’t blow for the entire section.
