I started with vikings 13 years ago. In the beginning I was a classic case of fantasy viking. Shop-bought cotton clothes, rubber-soled leather boots, absolutely hideous sword, plywood shield, leather armor, deerskin cloak. After ten years, I sat at home and thought that it could be better after all. I sold all my old equipment and used the money to buy cloth, leather and other things. I remember reading books for months looking for the right styles of clothes, belts, shoes, buckles, knives and other things. It took me a month to sew my first tunic. Thanks to reenacting, I learned to sew basic clothes, make a belt, shoes, arrows, carve dishes,... There is still a lot I would like to learn. Weave fishing nets from your own ropes, track animals in the woods. When I think back to how I thought about Vikings a few years ago, I have to smile. Today, as a new member of the open-air museum, I can show visitors a historically correct view of the given time. And that makes me happy.

thank you for sharing that journey. Im sure many "old" reenactors can recognize them selves in this. I surely can. But this drive is exactly what is there. to keep learning, upgrading, honing and exploring. Just like you say that there is so many more things you would like to learn, I have never met a reenact who was done learning. who was ready to settle and just let the world go by. It keeps the sword sharp:) you should be proud of what you have done. all the best

I have no words to express my appreciation for what you are doing. I share this with everyone I can, because so many people think this is roll playing. They are so utterly wrong. You have such large round apple cheeks, like mine and I think they make for framing some of the best smiles in the world. And your eyes are like refreshing spring pools reflecting out all your joy and passion, see 20:42 in the video for proof!!! Sometimes the world feels like there isn't enough smiling going on, I am glad to know that another person is out there spreading some real quality smiles out to others. Thank you again for all the effort you put into sharing your passion with the rest of us, this video is just top notch!!! @@RAMUNI-Viking

I can see the commitment your community has made in the village you have crafted. A large piece of land laid out in a comprehensive manner, with fortress walls, drainage canals, bridges, towers etc. This didn't happen overnight and is a massive construction project. No modern conveniences are seen anywhere. Building your community happened long before what we see now. My hat is off to all of you for your dedication and ability to work together. Skal!

Perhaps it is because of my ancestors and my own craftsman experience. My grandpa was a Norwegian cabinet maker and used common hand tools to create cabinets and furniture without metal fasteners. My father was a sculpter, detail artist, jeweler, silversmith and violin maker. I have been a house framer, boot maker and saddle repairman. I have worked on large jobs such as your village, but not as comprehensive as your village. Skal, my friend.

Dear friend .it would've surprised me if u had some scandinavian ancestors ..u don't have to feel a connection obviously but for thoes that do and forgon the ppl history and culture it's like a reawakening. I belive 100 % in DNA memory ..the blood knows and remembers..on an internal level this has always stired me in ways explaine any other way .I've been a living historian for going on 35 years now and with out knowing my real root ..then I found out I'm 46 % danish ....the blood knows . Just my opinion but I feel that that's why I have always been drawn to aspects of there way of life and culture.even before I knew this was the beliefs and culture of MY ppl .I would highly recommend u and others to get involved with reenactments .learn how when and why ancient ppl did what they did .and pass it along to the next generation so it isn't forgotten to the pages of history..skol.

I completely missed this video 😮 but have now seen it and enjoyed it from start to finish. So beautifully and wisely spoken and there is nothing wrong with being yourself in this crazy troubled world and seeking peace and tranquility in nature. And to be yourself in what you like. Being a Viking with all your beautiful creations that I have already seen in your other videos. Beautifully filmed with such beautiful details of everything you love. A very nice compilation of your previous videos and with new images and spoken with wise words. Thank you Rasmus for all your work and sharing with us.🙏

U couldn't of worded it any better how u see why u see .how ur made to feel and why u feel the way u do when your living even for a short time as your ancestors did . Wich to me is proff of DNA memory..u should be praised skaldic warrior ..for passing on knowledge for thoes that may seek it ..passing this on to the next generation. And keeping the fires of the old ways burning bright.. skol.

What an absolutely beautiful video! You captured the spirit of Viking reenactment perfectly! I am a beginner in medieval festivals and reenactments and this video touched me in my heart place :D And the things you said at the end about coming home late on a Sunday with muddy shoes etc. I FELT THAT! This is such a great representation of the beauty and simplicity of reenactment and I love how you took us through the seasons of the year. So well done and in a very creative style. I must say that what you are doing is simply an invaluable contribution to historical reenactment. Personally, it’s hard for me to find good books with things that interest me on reenactment because they are either very schematic, or in a language I don’t know. And need to be additionally translated for myself, which doesn’t turn out accurately. I would like more visual examples, photographs, 3D reconstructions of burials and finds, and of course the kind of films you make about simple daily life of viking. I probably won’t be able to express in words how grateful I am to you for what you do. I send you my deepest hugs and heartfelt gratitude! ❤

Well I don't really cry much these days, but this video reached right down and pulled the emotions out of me. You are very lucky and must have done something right in a past life to have such an enjoyable time - good for you! As with most of the other comments here you make those of us with similar feelings or inclinations just want to go right out and enjoy nature and the natural world. It's a bit difficult in England as most woods or natural environments are owned by people who really don't want anyone to spend time there unless they pay money for the privilege. And the "authorities" certainly don't want anyone to use a edged tool! Still, with a Viking heart anything is possible. Take care, Eddie.

    • @RAMUNI-Viking
      @RAMUNI-Viking  6 місяців тому

hello Edwin. Im happy to hear that the video invoked something in you. It makes me proud. its a bit of the same here. most nature I privately owned. here it means no fire, no drones, stick to the major paths and stay away when forestry machines or hunting is active. there is a few government owned forests and natural areas that are free for all where you can be free. but its not easy. its really sad that nature has to be in fact fairly inaccessible. and yes. anything is possible. tak care Eddie.

For me the early medieval era has a material culture that is more accessible to someone making reconstructions than later eras. So much of it just makes sense to me in a way other eras do not.

I was a member of the SCA and left it because it was a joke. The only thing period, historically, was the clothing. I wish there was a good reenactment group in my area. My 40 something times great grandfather was Sigurd 'snake in the eye' ragnarsson.

Hello Charles. I hope you can find a reenactment group that suits your needs. And maybe try and take your gear out to the forest alone. Then you make the rules about authenticity and maybe from there or with that persepctive try and start your own group?all the best:)

This couldt have been a piece of music composed by Legeti.

I dont know Legeti. But there are links to the songs in the video description. They Are All part of the UA-cam studio licence free music for creators. The intro part i recorded my self though with my hurdy gurdy. All the best and thank you for writing Alex.

If my kids were groan I'd love to do this for 1 year! Hell mabey longer who knows. I'm just tired of the hustle and bustle of this so called "every day life" bs, that something like this would completely hit a life reset button, open my eyes to a whole other world that's out there just waiting to be lived by someone like me who's tired of the normal! I'd love to learn more about this way of life, and possibly do it one day in the near future hopefully.

Hello:) sorry for taking so long to reply. i would love to do it for a great long stretch of time too. Most of the time its hust for a few days or a week. Its important to get these breaks form the normal. Im sure there is many ways to get the break, but this type of reenactment surely is a good one. I really hope you can get a chance to try it out someday. Its great to have the kids around in this, but it also makes things more complicated and hard. In the end I think its worth it. Try and search for Alone in the Past. Its a russian guy who lived alone like this on a viking farmstead for a year. Very interesting. I heard there was supposed to be a follow up called Togehter in the Past. But i dont think it ever happened. Thank you for watching my video and for taking the time to write this comment. I highly appreciate it. All the best. Rasmus

@@RAMUNI-Viking thank you very much for replying to me. I will definitely check out and research the information you have given me. If I can't do that soon then I may do something close to it here with me and a few brothers I served with in the USMC that are like minded in this type of "break/reset" that you refer to as a reenactment. I believe it's a way of life we yurn to get back to deep down inside, but with today's world, it makes it difficult to do sometimes. I live in the country, right outside of Chattanooga Tennessee USA and have land to do something like this here, mabey it's worth a try to invest time and money to do that which makes me happy and my kids like to do that kind of things anyway. I'm a single dad with full custody and no help so I don't have anyone to answer to but God, so if this is to happen, then all I have to do is to just do it. I believe I have a large project starting this weekend that involves building a small longhouse and start from there. Thank you for the inspiration in the video you made that has given me this idea in starting to make me happy and getting away from "the real world" briefly every so often!
