I was 9, maybe 10 when this came out and I was visiting family in Mexico. I didn't have cable where I lived, but they did and I LOVED watching MTV. This song came out along with Jamicorauai and some others. All of which I hated backed then. But now at 31 I can really appreciate this simple, but humble song

Kiss me out of the bearded barley
Nightly beside the green, green grass
Swing, swing, swing the spinning step
You wear those shoes and I will wear that dress
Oh, kiss me beneath the milky twilight
Lead me out on the moonlit floor
    Lift your open hand
Strike up the band and make the fireflies dance
    Silver moon's sparkling
    So, kiss me
Kiss me down by the broken tree house
Swing me upon its hanging tire
Bring, bring, bring your flowered hat
We'll take the trail marked on your father's map
Oh, kiss me beneath the milky twilight
Lead me out on the moonlit floor
    Lift your open hand
Strike up the band and make the fireflies dance
    Silver moon's sparkling
    So, kiss me
Kiss me beneath the milky twilight

I've said this before and I'll say it again: this song is a peaceful summer evening translated into musical notes. I'm sitting in my bedroom as I type this with evening falling on a day in midspring. It was nice in the afternoon but it's now a bit too cool to have the windows open. Nonetheless, as I listened to this song for the umpteenth time, I felt a warm, lazy breeze float past me while fireflies bobbed around in it like boats on a lake. I am an old metal head and love all manner of loud, angry music but somehow, over 20 years later, this is just about the only song that can elicit a strong emotional reaction in me and draw out my most over the top prose when describing it.

Ah the 1990's. When music was about art, form, and creativity. When movies weren't a political agenda. Before NAFTA took full swing and destroyed America's self sustained economy where even young teenagers worked at McDonalds and bagged groceries. When people were sane, for the most part polite, and industry was a magnum opus. It was a beautiful time in American history with all probability that will never again be seen due to Liberal politicians making a political statement in every avenue of life they can.
This song really does take me back. I remember watching it on Mtv when Mtv was.... well..... Mtv...... MUSIC VIDEOS. This song brings back so many memories of my teenaged life it makes me want to cry. Life was not perfect for my family in any regard, but it didn't matter. You see.... back then people really were content, and selflessness wasn't a dirty word. I miss those days so much. I doubt we'll ever see times like that again. America is too far gone now.
What we call "progress" is the ultimate destroyer of any society either past or present. It's too bad. My family didn't have a lot, but life was good. It's such a shame. Take care now.

Remember being in a tent in my backyard with a little radio and headphones. Two in the morning, hoping like hell that my radio request would be played. It was. I was hopelessly in love with someone I knew even then that I could never have. She probably never heard the dedication. About twenty-two years later, and we're still friends, we still talk, and while she doesn't know it, I associate this cheesy, romantic little song with her. Always have, always will.

You always get that classic wild and undeniable 90's/2000's teenage romance vibes from such love songs, not only they were in almost all teenage movies and teenage tv shows expressing romantic and sad moments between two of love, it also felt the same in the real world. Iconic, breath taking just kiss her!

I do the same thing. Geez, I miss the world we knew and took for granted. Everything we knew is gone. Regional department stores that were around for over 100 years gone, 27 airlines down to 6, traditions that were cherished gone. Worldwide governments have become more corrupt than could ever have imagined. Christian values our countries were founded on have been tossed. People dress like slobs and have no concern for their fellow man or national pride. Give them their phones, tablets and social media and they are happy. So sad.

I was so embarrassed but I always treasured my time with him.
He died a little over a year later of cancer at the age of 47. I’m 26 now and when this song comes on the radio all the time I can’t help but cry with this memory. Every time I feel lonely and defeated I hear this song! He’s speaking to me and here I am a single mom, never married and the thought of any relationship now scares me.
