From Nothing to Something: The Emtee Story

Hip Hop loves a good underdog tale, from the rags-to-riches story of Jay Z on Reasonable Doubt to the escaping an institutionalized system on Good Kid, MaAd City by Kendrick Lamar, much of the themes in hip hop are about facing adversity. Trap music, a subgenre of hip hop, burst onto the mainstream in the early 2000s and it perfectly encapsulated the raw energy of the genre with topics such as urban street life, acquiring wealth, drug abuse, and life experiences in the inner city or the ghetto. Though the mood of the songs often differed, the goal was the same; make it out the trap and don’t look back.
