I became a Bonobo fan 20 years ago when his sound was quite different; more instrumental than electronic. One of those "walked into a music store and this was playing" types of things. Have 2 of his albums/CDs from back then. Glad to know he's still around, and it's interesting what his musical style has morphed into. Will have to give him more of a listen to see what he's been up to.
Listen to 'Fragments'. The album has got a bit of that old-school Bonobo sound you're referring to...although it strikes a fine balance between electronic and instrumental. Some of the tracks on there are ethereal - that riff in 'Polyghost' never fails to give me goosebumps - whilst some are typical (read: modern) Bonobo fare. He embarked on a 'Fragments' tour earlier this year. He was accompanied by his band, I heard them in the Dubai Opera and it was magical.

I’ve loved bonobo’s music for years and years now it seems , the sound blossoms along with my journey, & absolutely sets the bar for all other DJs in my opinion. The travelers ultimate soundtracks, ethereal singers…my favorite peridot Dot! ✨🤍🕊️🕯️🌙🌿
To me listening to all of Bonobo albums in chronological order tells me an interesting story about self healing. In the earliest albums there were so much pain and so much emotional release at the same time. As we moved forward the music became nuance and shifted more towards entertainment then self search. The new tracks sound better, more mature, and yet I can't vibe with them as much as with the older tracks. Maybe I wasn't healing as fast as the artist himself.
