Yes, I think the Chinese semiconductor development has been hugely underestimated in the West. Even the claim that SMIC is using old lithography machines from ASML for their new chips I have doubts about. The Western experts are just guessing! And therefore are taken by surprise again and again by the Chinese progress. I of course guess too, but not like ASML's CEO who says that China is 10-15 years behind leading chipmakers.

DeepSeek uses Huawei's 910C for inference ever though it was trained on Nvidia. From day one DeepSeek has supported Huawei for training and inference.

it seems like the wrong analogy anyway. Sputnik was the first satellite. DeepSeek isn't the first AI.
