I love the flying armbar it works better than alot of people think, its great to use on higher belts once you get into the single collar, alot of them are trying to setup there takedown and not expecting you to do a flying armbar, I did this only once at a tourney, I got the win but I got dropped right on my head haha
This is one of the bset turorials because it shows how to drill rather than just jumping right into a technique. A lot of these wanna be submission 101 people, lol, will just go right into. But this is why u guys are great, drilling is always better than just going right into something.
It's amazing that it's 2012 and there are still a lot of people that think bjj is useless in a street fight. Brazil is a wild country. A lot of dangerous areas. Since the 1920s, the Gracie family and countless other Brazilians have fought using bjj IN THE STREETS.
@adamsbeer I've actually managed to pull this off pretty consistently, but flying moves generally tend to work out better for smaller players. It helps if you know how to set up your opponent as well.
@adamsbeer Then those 1 chances happen more than you know. My student Red pulled of 3 flying armbars in one competition. We have the reel up on our page if you'd like to see
To all the people complaining about this being a Gi demonstration, Jiu Jitsu and many other styles of Martial Arts have been put into a no Gi format as well. Don't hate on Jiu Jitsu. It's a great grappling system. :)
i was just wondering if you could post a no gi version?! :D i did bjj b4 im 13 i stopped about 3 years a go because of bad knees and i got the ok to start again and i usuallly competted in no gi tournaments. my favourite submission is the armbar.
This helped haha i impressed everyone in my Grappling class because it was my 2nd day grappling they put me with some dude thats been there for 4 years then out of nowhere bam flying armbar
If by any chance, you accidentally snag your foot in the gi, is there any way to get over it? The last time I did this, I think I did it wrong in some way...
Great move, but if we wanna do this, must uke hold our leg?. I see more practical put the right leg on his abdominal and then kick the other leg over his head finishing in jiuji.
the best way to do a flying arm bar is when you openent grabs you deep cross collar and thats when you secure the arm put you foot in his hip and then through your other leg over his head. i did that yesterday : )
When he jump he isnt grabing the opponent´s arm for the armbar, he do that only when he has his back on the ground. Is it effective to do it that way?, maybe its easy for the opponent to pull out his arm?.
Hi, I am wondering how to get really good grip strength. I was told a technique of throwing your gi over a bar and doing pullups holding your gi. Is there any other techniques you guys use please?
Professor, would you say it's safe for heavier guys to practice this move as shown? There's a new student at the academy I train in, and he weighs around 140kg. He's told our instructor his dream is to be able to do a flying armbar. In fact, he told me he only joined the academy to learn this move (!). It's very hard to fight against him, since I'm around 85~90kg. Is it safe? My instructor is trying to discourage him at the moment, trying to convince him to lose some first to avoid injury both to himself and to his partners. Any ideas?
@Sikke107 Maybe 1 in 1000 was a poor choice of words. I think its safe to say that any flying attack, including armlocks, is at best a low percentage move.
i really like this video. it shows how to do the technique in detail and a way how to safely practice it, when i tried doing this move i kicked my friend in the head... hard lol i needed to learn how to practice it without killing my friends lol
you should be more specific the flying armbar is not a only a bbj technique , it was used by judokas long before bjj its called mae juji gatame . in judo you are not allowed to do it while standing because of the injury it can cause but the armbarjuji gatame its as common as a pinn in every judo competitions all over the world , look at the olympiques .
@adamsbeer Last year at NAGA I tried it in No-gi and he escaped, but I did get points for the attempt. Later in Gi division I nailed the guy in less than 10 seconds. So according to my experience it is more like 1 in 2.
I've found the best way to convince someone that BJJ (or 10th planjj) is superior to their lethal street fighting techniques is to have them fight u. simply saying u can punch/kick/knee/elbow etc and i wont strike u ill only use my jiu jitsu techniques. it works
@Tigerstyle1981 Wow. Is this a 14 year old trolling attempt? I have a couple of kempo black belts that train with me and they are very open minded and know the importance of jiu jitsu and ground fighting.
Tiene una falla si tienes mucha fuerza puedes levantarlo cuando el brazo está flexionado y dejarlo caer de cabeza posiblemente matando al que intento el flying ámbar El flying ámbar es un arma de doble filo
The variation i learned your almost turning before you jump. This assures your opponent is off balance and your on your way to down with a sweep/armbar. check my video response and please comment.
MMA is as closest to a real fight as it can be. You are allowed to use almost any type of strike and fight both on ground and standing. By MMA you can judge that BJJ works and with a few modifications and tweaks it can be a normal self defense system. I would even say that in a 1on1 situation with someone not very much heavier than you and who doesn't have ground fighting experience you would defeat him 9/10 times.
If you slip or miss you could end up hitting the floor hard on you head or neck. I have seen somebody KO themselves from a failed flying armbar and wouldnt recomend doing this as a "new" move in comp. Drill it loads like they show you. Its much harder No Gi. And I wouldnt recomend trying it outside of round 1, far too slippery and sweaty to do this. Good luck in your fight.
in a street fight you wouldnt flying armbar someone or pull guard, that side of the sport is more competition. most bjj guys train in mma, the street fighting side of bjj is throws and joint locks you would drop them on their head or rip their arm off. in the end would you rather be punched, or have your elbow destroyed, its not a normal break its fucked and takes atleast a year to heal. as for "not some controlled mma match" i think id rather fight a kempo or street fighter than an mma guy.
@Tigerstyle1981 With respect, no art is 'useless' - they all teach confidence and the importance of thought in a situation - In my dojo my students are taught respect for all other martial arts, apparently Kempo does not. Jiu Jitsu allows for varying degrees of response to a threat, striking arts do not - Keith can hold a hysterical teenager safe and immobile until they calm down; you would have to batter them to submission. Young man, you've learned Kempo now learn respect.
@Tigerstyle1981 Well, you made a complete blanketed statement about the whole art of Jiu Jitsu. It is ridiculous to think that you are spreading misinformation and general hate for other arts to your students. I've been bouncing for 17 years and I've used jiu jitsu more times that I can count. It is taught to police departments. Your lack of understand of even the basic concepts of jiu jitsu is alarming. I am WELL aware of street level confrontation. Just shameful.
eu não gostei dessa posição sou particante de jiujitsu aqui no brasil e pra min essa posição vc facilita demais o esmagamento, e passagem pra sair do armlock !
thank's..i've tried this last week and i kicked my teacher in the head:)::((poor him...that was nasty...thank you very much...thanks to you my teacher will survive another figt...
your underestimating this martial arts kempo is only good in striking and in a street fight it could be a ground fight what if you were kick in the balls you would feel alot of pain you'll feel bad about underestimating some other martial arts kempo is a portion in martial arts so i suggets to you to think before you comment.
creo que los movimientos son muy buenos pero acuérdate de mi soy Dylan jesús un tico con muchos sueños de ser grande en el jujitsu me despido DYLAN unit revolución

I was really curious on how to do this move,my curiosity ended....I can see how you get a real serious concussion from this move.
This is one of the bset turorials because it shows how to drill rather than just jumping right into a technique. A lot of these wanna be submission 101 people, lol, will just go right into. But this is why u guys are great, drilling is always better than just going right into something.

awesome video, i love the progression of your teaching style, that makes it a lot easier to learn! Mahalo!
one of the better submission vids from 101. usually the video or audio is bad but this is pretty good =D
Very nice. These guys helped out in get in my guard 3. If you havent seen it then go watch it right now. Its soo funny
I like this guy's conscientious method of teaching. Well done
If you tuck your chin and do a crunch as you jump, it helps from hitting your head on the floor.
He's just teaching you a great way to develop perfect mechanics. This way you can practice and perform it without fear of injury
You still alive, bro?
@adamsbeer I've actually managed to pull this off pretty consistently, but flying moves generally tend to work out better for smaller players. It helps if you know how to set up your opponent as well.
Nice break down of a complicated move. Thanks for posting.
No problem. Glad you liked it!
Well done, sir. I love this technique.
Thank you for showing the move. I was successful doing the move watching this video.
@adamsbeer Then those 1 chances happen more than you know. My student Red pulled of 3 flying armbars in one competition. We have the reel up on our page if you'd like to see
so amazing the flying arm bar that my favorite submission !!!! tank submission101

i miss my jj days so much :'(
gl guys from 101!!
If by any chance, you accidentally snag your foot in the gi, is there any way to get over it? The last time I did this, I think I did it wrong in some way...
kettlebells, captains of crush hand grippers, dynaball, the list is endless of good ways.
yay, i wanna try this :P
gonna try this on my next judo lesson.
This is pretty cool, thanks for sharing!
thk a lot I practiice judo and this is gonna help me a looooooot!
Great move, but if we wanna do this, must uke hold our leg?. I see more practical put the right leg on his abdominal and then kick the other leg over his head finishing in jiuji.

wish this was out a few months earlier....
Hi, I am wondering how to get really good grip strength. I was told a technique of throwing your gi over a bar and doing pullups holding your gi. Is there any other techniques you guys use please?
Should he not grab higher on your collar, like around the shoulder? Because if Keith hits his wrist and pull his arm in he has a wrist lock?
Very nice!
u think there is one lock that is impossible to get out? and wich would that be? and why if u don't mind.
Good stuff exactly how i learned it solid instruction!!!!!!
im gonna practice this move in judo gym tomorrow

I am taking a back seat for a while and letting others teach and take the helm for a bit....Keith is a GREAT teacher...more to come from him.
As Arnie would say, Excellent
I am. Thank you.
Seems like a great teacher alright.
@Submissions101 i have respect for u what u typed down to tigerstyle, i think ur tottally right, and each and every art has it specials,
Keith owen is awsome
@Sikke107 Maybe 1 in 1000 was a poor choice of words. I think its safe to say that any flying attack, including armlocks, is at best a low percentage move.
what happen if the guy dosnt let u down easy? cuz i dont wanna try this in one of my MMA fights and brake my neck for nothing
i really like this video. it shows how to do the technique in detail and a way how to safely practice it, when i tried doing this move i kicked my friend in the head... hard lol i needed to learn how to practice it without killing my friends lol
great tutorial thanks!
@adamsbeer
not realy i nailed 2 of those in a competition almost nailed the 3rd one...
its a clinch game submission you need to look for it
Excellent video. Thanks guys. Come & open a dojo in London, I'll ensure you're slammed every class. Osu.
cool, really nice.
great video 5 stars
Going well man...I am letting other instructors take the lead for a while...more points of view and therefore, the wider the knowledge pool ;-)
you should be more specific the flying armbar is not a only a bbj technique , it was used by judokas long before bjj

Yes...he is a high flyer ;-)

Tiene una falla si tienes mucha fuerza puedes levantarlo cuando el brazo está flexionado y dejarlo caer de cabeza posiblemente matando al que intento el flying ámbar
El flying ámbar es un arma de doble filo
what do you do if your opponent lets go of your gi instead of letting you drag him down?
He can't let go if you lock one of his arms
Havent seen any new videos from ari for a while. :o Hows the marriage going?
dude your just the fuckin man
Rip Kieth!
@Tigerstyle1981 Clearly you are not up on the times man BJJ is lethal and a great workout at that.
The variation i learned your almost turning before you jump. This assures your opponent is off balance and your on your way to down with a sweep/armbar.
check my video response and please comment.
In a fight your opponent doesn't tend to help you.
@Submissions101 Best just to let him talk his crap, I love how many martial arts experts have appeared since the beginning of MMA as a sport.
His right hand should be holding the lapel still right next to the left side of the neck
wat if he doesnt grab ur leg

Next time an opponent jumps into my gaurd I’ll know what to do
Ottimo
Man.. Keith Owen looks like he could be Mandy Patinkin's twin brother, lol

it is, check out Joe Dangers clip on it.
the jacket.
this question gave me cancer of course it is possible just grab around his head "single collar" and his arm
@@efiefi357 gi is the name of the shirt.
eu não gostei dessa posição sou particante de jiujitsu aqui no brasil e pra min essa posição vc facilita demais o esmagamento, e passagem pra sair do armlock !
@adamsbeer not really man, most people get caught by this off guard
But it still looks good to me I do judo
