When Kuch is on he's dominant and he improved as a pitcher under Pete Walker in Toronto. His off speed stuff mixes in well with his sizzling fastball. He will give you everything he's got and put his heart into every start. Toronto fans love this guy. Hope we can bring him back in free agency
He's got a career 4.72 ERA, a 4.75 this year. He gets worse as the season progresses. He put up a 6+ ERA for June and July. Hey, at least he's consistent.
The Hader deal never shouldn't have happened, They needed a starter TH:EN. On top of that, moving Pressley back to set up messed with his head early on. However, he's not to the level of the Jose Abreu debacle or even the Montero deal. He had his moments. He hasn't been a good value though.

He is also a FA at the end of the season. They just traded 3 good prospects for a half a season of a solid 5th starter.

Sure, we sorely needed starting pitching, but this is giving up too, damn much for getting back an ailing starting pitcher, who at 33 has only had one season with a sub-4.00 ERA. For the 3 studs we gave up, we should be seeing AT LEAST Blake Snell in the dugout. I've been an Astros fan since 1968, and the worse this comes closest to is Mike Cuellar for Curt Blefary, in 1968.

When Verlander comes back, Arighetti gets bumped from the rotation. His velo is up, and, as a result, he's getting it done. The only positive is the trade made room for Leon. Now, will the manager get him ABs. Who the F knows.

Not only "casual fans". I do understand how the bullpen is getting worn down this season, with 7 starting pitchers with injuries. But making this trade smells too much like desperation. We got fleeced.

Astros coaching staff does have some mad analytics and can maximize/juice spin rate, release points, etc. Maybe they liked what they saw and think they can improve upon. But from what I've seen with the double-delayed leg kick and on paper though, it seems like a big mehhhh.

Nealy an 8 ERA at MM doesn't inspire confidence. The league has seen his pitches for years, and they love his pitches. He's very hittable.
