What a great listen. I had the pleasure of meeting John in the early nineties at HMP Wandsworth. A larger than life character who brought a bit of light in a dark place.
I had the pleasure and privilege to spend a few hours talking to this man about fourteen years ago. He will not remember me, but I will always remember him. He told me a story about when he was on the run and went to buy a newspaper. I was in stitches when he told me and I still remember it now. I found this geezer to be funny, humorous, and intelligent. I always wondered where he was and how things panned out for him. Fourty three years. Disgraceful. I wish him all the best for the time he has left, God bless him.
I spent 2 weeks banged up with him in HMP FORD in 2010. Must have been around the time you met him? How did you meet him though? As we was all in jail and he certainly was 14yrs ago or so as I was with him. Really good guy. Stood on principles
These old school men are way more interesting to listen to, Dodge, I hate to make a request but if it’s possible you must get John Hilton on if possible. He’s only done one pod (SA) he’s about 94 now and knew every face imaginable and served 2 life sentences (separately) hard to believe he still exists really. Thanks, lee in Vietnam..
This man escaped prison/ breached his licence a few times to be with a dying relative and ending up serving over double his original sentance, id been in winson green for 24 months and still had 42 months left in jail when i found out my father was dying, i thought about escaping every single day, i was a mess, i just thank god i met my wife and had kids after my jail time, dont wory about jail being physical its the mental game that will get you
@Home.Barissta yeah your right but were not all perfect, good people can make bad decisions, this was 20 years ago anyway I've grown alot since then, and thank you 👍
@@deangleeson3595 Don't even give him your energy bro.. We all make mistakes, and I've made many.. But I'm a changed man today... Some of us are not born with Silver 🥄 in our mouths.. Be lucky Dean 👊🏽 All the best to you
Thanks Dodge, you pulled it off with that one mate. John is East End old school. A fine orator, articulate and intelligent with a great accent. I wouldn't have it with him at 76. He's in good nick and looks like he'd chew your earoles off
In answer to his question, he absolutely isn’t the worst of the people who’ve killed, let alone worse than all the criminals in or out in Britain. I work with some of the most violent ex offenders and he seems genuine, he accepts responsibility not just because of the extra 23yrs but through heart. Unlike the nonces that get 3yrs or less for ruining every child’s life they’ve ever come into contact with, most of those kids end up in prison or the mental health system due to trauma. In my opinion they are the ones that should never get out or a life sentence for every child they abused. Just like the children who never recover. VP wings are the easiest in any prison. That’s a direct quote from those monsters. I’m lucky I rarely cross paths with them. John you were done over and my heart goes out to you. 🤗
Listened to John’s story on my walk to cricket at Old Trafford today. What an eventful life and you wouldn’t have thought from listening to him he was so violent. An interesting listen Dodge, enjoyed it. Another good episode.
Brilliant podcast Dodge.......again! Very interesting life story! I hope Mr.Massey can enjoy his freedom and rebuild his life. Certainly been put through the mill by the prison authorities! God Bless Him .
He ain’t gonna tell us, cos he was probably one of the screws, mob handed kicking the shit out of John at 3 in the morning 🤷 Hence why he’s keeping quiet, tosser 🤷
What an amazing story of johns life.Related in the most simple of terms no glamour. The regret that door man shouldn’t have fallen onto him, there was no intent to kill anyone in that club. As for the Prison system he beat it in my opinion he wasn’t broken . Live the remainder of your life happy and in good health John .
I HAVE SPENT 2 WEEKS IN THE SAME CELL AS MR MASSEY .. In those two weeks we was separated but still in the same prison. Really nice guy and we are from our own. I’m Hackney BORN AND BRED. I have 2 weeks of memories I spent with John at HMP FORD. REALLY FUCKING NICE MAN ❤ I AM SOO HAPLY TO SEE HIM FREE .. Woyld live to see him again, have some dinner like we did, and catch up. I never knew who he was until a couple years after I was released. He is a really good stand up guy. Principles this man
I have never once felt anything like emotions in these podcasts, but Mr Massey reminded me of big John Gallagher survivor of the Peterhead regime, battered half to death of the SAS and still a gentleman. You aren’t built for prison it is survival nobody thrives in the jail. You survive if your lucky enough to have a lib date ,as I always had and the lifers were by far the best characters I came across ✌️🏴
Fantastic interview 👌👍 And about time someone in the know talked honestly about Bronson's narcissistic bollox, and the acolytes who he has fooled into believe him, the last grift being the " long lost son " demanding a public parole hearing. 🤔 I wish Mr Massy all the best in the next chapter of this thing we call life. 🙏🙏
43 years, that's only 6 years less than I've been alive! Yes I know he took someone's life - but it's hard to wrap your head round being locked up for that amount of time.
Interesting character. Not sure I agree with the argument relating to the severity of his sentence, and his belief "I'm not as bad as some people" angle. If you don’t want to do the time, don’t do the crime. An interesting interview. Im always fascinated how these people end up as heroes, or revered for what they've done with things downplayed to a "You've lived a life, you little rascal haven't you?!" Is it because they're all ancient now and because they look like someone's Grandad? Does that take the edge off what they've done in their younger days to make it more palletable? Good, interesting, thought provoking interview.
Class act as a man. What is sad is the fact he has so much time on his hands that he has all the time in the world to tell a story!! This isn't meant to be an issue but an observation as is never someone else's fault
My old man was a REAL hard bastard , a coalman and slaughterman. He didnt use knuckle dusters. Biggest lesson to be learned here is, if you want to be a real criminal stay off drugs and booze! Like all the Italians men of honour do.
