- Tech companies like Meta are investing billions of dollars into the so-called metaverse.
It can loosely be defined as a virtual world where people live, work and play. While there are some early versions of the metaverse out there, it doesn’t really exist yet.
Many of those early versions were touted by the tech giants at this year’s Mobile World Congress event in Barcelona.
But there’s a long way to go and questions are already being asked about whether the metaverse will end up being a utopia or a dystopia.

Imagine how depressing it would be to celebrate your birthday with VR with a virtual cake and friends and then you take off your VR headset and realise you're actually all alone...
its gonna be some of the problems, some weak people will get stuck in there, so that put a huge responsibility on us, developers, to create exit strategies
Sounds way more depressing to be sitting in a room full of your friends and instead of, you know, talking to them or cutting an actual cake, you put on some stupid goggles and pretend to eat virtual cake.
Well, actually they are not even your friends, just an AI that you need to pay to celebrate your (virtual) birthday 🤪

It's gonna turn into futuristic social media as I see it. We know how social media has ruined the present gen. Metaverse will start with trade, business, economy etc,then back to upgraded version of current problems ruining our gen (pron, social media, we becoming dumb)
being disconnected from reality and depending on happiness through a false reality, the meta verse is not good.. you will be disappointed and depressed as soon as you disconnect from it as now you have to face reality.

@@redpillmatrix3046 I would say the internet is reality, we seek and capture reality and upload it online. watching a 6 min UA-cam video is way different than putting on your meta verse goggles on and being completely immersed in there, in a alternate reality.

A mix of human and online interactions is still required; but doing it virtually will make it easily to get a taste of something. But I believe metaverse is just the facilitator; seeing, talking and meeting other people and going to places will fundamentally be critical in how we connect with each other.

Some features that may set $fitfi Step apart from other "move to earn" apps include the specific rewards and incentives offered, and the functionality and user experience of the app.
About VRChat being full of people hurling abuse at one another. That's just internet in general. Here are a few examples where it's also a prominent problem:
Minecraft,
Roblox,
Facebook,
Twitter,
CoD lobby
and any other site, app or game that has any kind of chat functionality.
In my opinion, VRChat handles the problem quite well. If someone is hurling abuse at us we can simply mute and report them. If their avatar is inappropriate, in addition to reporting them we can block their avatar from being rendered for us.
Now on to the general Metaverse creation talks. Companies like mEtA, Unity, Epic won't be the ones who create the Metaverse (better name will probably be chosen as the current has been quite tarnished) it's gonna be the users that build it. Tech companies will provide some and I mean SOME of the tools to build it, but the users will ultimately be the ones to build it. It just sucks that companies like mEtA gonna exploit the hard work of people that use their tools. Heck, even if people don't use their tools, they still find a way to exploit other peoples work.
What is the metaverse? it's a dystopian nightmare brought to you by the man who wrecked the minds of hundreds of millions.
A bit of an controversial question: Can we argue now that those companies have the incentives to spread other viruses causing more pandemics?

The counterbalance to all this nonsense is: boxing, sailing, hiking- mountaineering, surfing, motorcycling and so forth. Skills to acquire: carpentry, electrical, plumbing, digging wells, farming.
We already spend far too much time staring at screens. The negative fallout is only just beginning to he revealed. Think of the schmuck in the Barcalounger gaming all day in the movie Idiocracy.
"The Metaverse" is simply a buzzword popularized by Meta (Facebook) in order to drive interest towards VR/AR/MR.
In the current reality of 2022, the word "Metaverse" can be used to reference any form of digital ecosystem containing virtual goods.
Word Metaverse actually comes from a book written in 1992 About avatars.
I believe that the Metaverse is going to be set once they decrease the size of those virtual reality headsets into some small glasses. Because it doesn't feel comfortable to wear a microwave around your head.

Imagine being in a top secret virtual meeting room with hollographic interaction projectors facilitating talks with partners across the globe and suddenly get barged in by a gang of drug traffickers hakers disguised as intelligence officers or something like that. And imagine being in a room with real people and high definition holographic attendees. Confusing...lol.

So this is basically Second Life, The Lounge aka Vside, PlayStation Home etc just VR. They didn't do anything that wasn't done before, just used the VR gimmick to recreate it.
Nice vid. This is similar to Metaversus. It's a metaverse project as well where you can create your own avatar or a digital "you". It's kind of fun to know more of these projects are now existing.

With second life you were sitting in a chair, looking at a screen and there was an avatar on the screen. You didn't look down at your hand and see your avatar's hand move as yours. You brain didn't adopt the avatar's body as its own.

Vr has ALWAYS been very niche & nobody is really interested. Nobody wants something that is going to occupy more of their time. Google couldn't even sell glasses, absolutely nobody wants a VR HELMET.
Metaverse on Unreal 5 engine is gonna win the race
Engineers saw what UE5 can do, now they will search for similar output of UE. But Epic raised bar too high with many abilites of their engine.. Specially with human modelling.
Metaverse is the protype of real world, where social experiments will be executed through A.I. and required results will be generated. Those results later on will be applied to real world through DAO. Incentive of using the Metaverse is Education and Entertainment
This won’t happen. For one, the toll on you’re eyes and sight will be far too grave. Two, it takes physical bodies to move object A to point B and C without catastrophe. Three, the amount of money it will take for you to replace humans with machinery is just too counterproductive. In order for you to work from home they’d have to replace you’re physical being. Physical work will not and cannot be replaced by VR. This idea of making life easier and more comfortable is absurd. Life is not easy and it continues to become more and more strenuous by day. To live and let this fact remain is true comfort.
But, VRChat has ability to move legs and arms..is it still impossible? :(
I agree with most, but physical work has been being replaced by machines everyday my guy. Look at construction. It’s mostly machines building houses. Look at the self checkout. Look at atms. A washing machine. It’s just gonna get more and more electronic.
TV and cinema has had its day. Meta is the next big thing for sure.

What a gimmick...living your life in a Virtual World buying and owning virtual land. Did they use a virtual surveyor to plot the points? VR money and VR worlds has already been tried many years ago. It didn't work...Like those people addicted to Second Life years ago. Some never left their homes at all!! This is what we've come to... Pity that...

I saw a video once about the Metaverse. If you are working in a company using meetings or work time in Metaverseerse, and you forgot to answer some from someone or your boss, it is really a severe problem. You need to be 24 hours connectMetaverseerse to reply to anything. The population will be co-dependent on this virtual reality. It is so difficult to survive, pay bills, rent, and buy food in a real-life, imagine you spend more to purchase bitcoins to have a virtual life? Also, the big companies want the ordinary people spend go to the Metaverse to consume more, they just want to make money. I think could be fun to have a meeting with friends who live far from you, like everybody in your living room. It could be nice.

Metaverse is understood as a graphically rich virtual space, with some degree of verisimilitude, where people can work, play, shop, socialize in short, do the things humans like to do together in real life, and that is also the reason why billions of dollars by the big names companies spent for it because in metaverse a lot of opportunities would you get and can be used for the future! If it happens the way mobiles have, humans are going to regress in intelligence and quality of life much further. We keep investing in ideas that are going to harm us in unfathomable ways for the sake of money. This is probably how we'll end up losing our edge and eventually be wiped from this planet.
Nowdays we see our smartphones makes us more independent that we re not meet with people like we meet before smartphone era and i think Metaverse makes us more independent because we we stuck in virtual world.
