I'm confused - is this the same guitar as the D-50, but with more bling? Or is the D-50 tonally different? I keep reading about the D-50 being a great bluegrass guitar, but there's not that many mentions of that or flatpicking in D-55 reviews...
I have had experience playing similar guitars. Both westerly guitars I played a D55 owned by a brooks and dunn player. Very nice sounding instrument for folk music that I play. I ended up buying a DV52 for half the price as the D55. The only thing that I'm not impressed with my 52 are the medium gauge strings that are on it. They seem to weigh down the guitar, not making it ring like my preferred lights do. Buttery is a good name for them. If you have never played on a ebony fingerboard then you are in for a delightful surprise! My personal opinion? 1. Go buy a westerly guitar, they are heavy but I like them as a tank (and they are not as bad as you hear, the real heavy ones are the F412) plus collectors say they are the best and i agree with them, westerlys have the guild heritage 2. Are you wanting a flashy guitar? If your wallet is talking, then you may want to look for a dv-52 or d-50 blugrass special. If money is not an option, lay down the cash for a d55. Ps I would recommend you to look at martin d18 d28 d35 or d41 since you are considering a guild of this price. I like guild because the have excellent bass and John Denver owned a few. They are also made well and are the dark horse of American guitars, making them cheap.
+Mikko Väätäinen nowadays, they are very similar. Rumor is that wood grading is kicked up a notch for the D-55 vs. the D-50. Both have scalloped bracing today, so tonally, it is probably very slight.
They don't have a 1.75 nut in the D-55 unfortunately. Guild's are great guitars. When they come out with a 175 nut & adirondack top I'll pay the bill. For now I go with a 2008 Martin D-28 Marquis (really love the neck & 2 5/16 spacing at the saddle).
One of the best guitars ever! And I have a D-55!
Beautiful!
Good choice for that first song!
His playing isn't bad, but why palm mute the entire demo?
Guitarist didn't do the 55 justice. Grab a pick and jam on that thing! 🎸
How does he get his head so shiny and even? Mine never looks that good.
guitar polish assclown
it sounds great....best american craftsmanship 😎
And 2nd too!
What's the best strings for the D55 Guild AD552130 thks.

Anyone know the intro song?
This is the worst demo of the D-55 on UA-cam. Musicians Friend did an awesome job. The crappy sound ain't the guitar, folks.

As if they're aren't already a ton of choices with 1 3/4" nuts ! Some of us are VERY thankful Guild offers a narrower alternative. . .
It sounds marginery, not buttery
Looks hard to play
clunkers.
