One of the best parts of the sport - great to listen the exact words from the man in the middle.
And woman - SA ref is awesome

Love the calm but assertive manner of Aimee Barrett-Theron! "Not angry, just disappointed." :D That hit hard!
The pressure of the following question "Did you lie to me?" was great too.
If only the FA, UEFA and FIFA would back their referees to make decisions and enforce them like this. Any dissent - yellow card, and move the restart 10 yards closer to the goal. If it goes into the penalty area, then it becomes a penalty. Yes, for a month or so there would be multiple red cards per game, but after that the players would be told by their managers to cut it out.
Any dissent is already a yellow card. Dissent is also subjective for everybody, it depends on what they're willing to tolerate. Leagues and FAs 100% support referees in being able to penalise dissent.
I’m not angry just disappointed 😢
Childhood flashbacks 😂
@@schnozz87 good point!
Ngl if I was a player I'll just reply Sorry mom
Why's the ref at 1:25 more jacked than the two players 😂
Jordan Wray, an average Aussie. We're all built like that.
We're so used to the likes of Nigel Owens and Wayne Barnes being great on the field in the past. It's fantastic to see a strong succession of referees coming through!
Wayne Barnes hates Scotland with a passion shafts them every time
Aimee Barrett-Theron's mom energy is strong!
Given his passing, could you do a Tom Voyce tribute? I get footage from his era might be hard to come by though.
What a shame soccer refs aren't this good!
What a shame that soccer players are not this good and respecting referees as they should do. How many times do we hear a rugby player say, after the referee had spoken to them: "Sorry sir", "thank you sir".
As a soccer referee I feel offended by this comment. It’s not the referee’s but usually the players who can not behave. Secondly, we do not have the opertunaties like the sin bin or 10 meter penalty. Thirdly, the clock can not be stopped so speaking to players is limited. I am very strict. If I hear certain foul language then the players are sent off. This I see not enough sadly.
And yes, there are referees who are not up to the standard sometimes. This is the fault of the FIFA and the way they assign them or the national league agencies. That is politics.
Another top video !
Always respect the Reff
Referee giving a player a grilling, "do you understand?". "Yes sir". Won't get that in football.
If only football was managed this way, it would be a sport worth watching
“This relationship isn’t working” 💔
Watch and learn, football. Watch and learn.
8:00
fun fact:
James Botham didn't go for HIA, the Welsh doctor cleared him to continue 2-3 seconds after that clip ends
The ref then went something along the lines of "oh you're fine? Oh, then it's a penalty for not rolling away"
@@angelaizen2231 as far as I remember he still continued with the scrum for unplayable. IMO it should have been either how you described it or forcing the player go for HIA.
@nikolakozhuharov1042 I could be wrong, but im pretty sure he turned it into a penalty
Ref stopped the game because he was concerned for player safety.
Match doctor said the player on the ground did not need a hia
Ref explains to the Australian captain ,I have stopped the game because I am concerned for the player on the ground, the match doctor has said the player is fine. We restart with an Australian scrum.
Top class officiating as far as I am concerned. Ref did the right thing stopping for player safety, ref can not argue with the independent match doctor. All protocols followed, all explained to the fans, top job!
Jimmy Doleman is simply a great ref
Come here, come here, come here says Matt walking toward the player. Rather like me telling off my dog😂
Wish more refs would as strict after saying 'use it'
Love the refs. Coming from American sports it's night and day.
5:20 South African ref telling South African players that they are not scrumming the way South Africans should. Glad the ref steps up to ask for a better standard on home turf.
Marius Van der Westhuizen
@torinsuriarachi700 I know, but the fact that he says to our forwards, guys, you scrum shit now is very funny.
@@christiangerhardt2408 I don’t speak Afrikaans
@torinsuriarachi700 Tra slated it
Without naming anyone, Nick White must be the most nauseating player in the world. 😅
He would fit perfectly as a Shelby brother in Peaky Blinders.
rugby referees are the best trained refs in any sport n the world. straight to the point, no nonsense & clear to both teams
But importantly they treat the players with absolute respect as well - And demand the respect in return.
Great to see some discipline and respect. Where else do you see it these days.
Rugby Ref’s are pure class!
Man i love Piardi sooooooo much
Clearly knocked out. He didn't cover himself in glory in this game but Rugby still does it better than other games.
The respect shown to refs compared to football. Footballers should take notice.
Should be made to take notice. Current rule is only the captain should speak to the ref. Every ref should book a player who approaches him to question his decision. 2 weekends of that and the resultant sendings off for repeat offences would quickly get through most footballer’s brains
I would like to see the how rugby referees deal with the tantrums of football players; and also when the players get in the faces of the referees. It will happen once and no more.
Send them off, give them a match ban.
They wouldn't put up with the childish behaviour, of football players.
They would yellow or red card them - Rugby has a catch all rule called "Brining the game into disrepute" perfect for these temper tantrums, where the player does not cross the line with action or language, but their intent is clear.
Im not mad just just really disappointed “. Use be the best comment ever.
Referees reports should be made public knowledge.
Hey, I was quite impressed by the female refs who refereed the male matches -- and the gentlemen llike reaction of those men!
Omfg the clown outfits they make refs in the URC wear. I'd be so embarrassed lmao.
I wish soccer referees controlled players and games the way rugby refs do. It's not their fault though. Rugby players and coaches generally respect refs and refs have powers to sanction players who misbehave. Wish it were so in football.
Refs are not above a telling off either I'm afraid
nice video mate ❤
Do one of referees taking some nonsense
Busby is incompetent
The lied to me one is pretty cringe tbh
Just admit you don't like it because it's a female ref and let's move on
Another beloved game being destroyed by the refs
Ooooo don’t cry ref
I find Rugby refereeing to be so toxic. When a ref makes an obvious mistake and a player points out that they have made that mistake there is this culture of belittling and gaslighting them. It may work with school kids but it is so demeaning to talk to adults in the way that refs do.
Just a question; have you ever played the game at any serious level? Because I think you misunderstand the obvious reason for the referees' firmness in certain situations.
I am a player nearing the end of his career and have now been refereeing alongside playing for 2 years. Maintaining control and discipline on the pitch in a game which can easily descend into absolute chaos if not managed correctly is paramount to ensure the safety of all players.
To that end - whether I have made a mistake or not is irrelevant. I have made the call as I have seen it and that is the call. I don't care about your interpretation of the laws in that moment.
A player who questions the call respectfully will get an answer if the time is right, but ultimately they are there to play rugby and focus on the game and not moaning in my ear. What you're interpreting as belittling and gaslighting - I'm seeing more as the referee non-overtly reminding the player that he's overstepping some leniency he's being shown in questioning the call in the first place (particularly if he's not the captain) or being annoying by having multiple bites of the cherry when provided with the referee's logic.
That really isn't how it is. The referee's authority is final in the sport, most referees I have ever played with have been perfectly amenable to feedback and will usually admit their mistake of approached in the right manner.
The point is that as a player, the values of respect for the officials means that you are taught to accept the referee's decision even if you don't agree, and many laws in rugby can be subjective and open to interpretation, which means if every decision gets questioned and debated the game just wouldn't be practicable. The players cede to the referee's decision, the referee doesn't let the players dictate and that's crucial to the sport.
That's not to say it couldn't be improved! Refs like Steve Walsh were always notorious for being big egos and not accepting any feedback, but the majority are very civil. In my (admittedly low league) experience anyway.
Also tbf it's worth pointing out that the game did start out as a school game, so the edict of respecting the referee, calling them "sir" etc kind of trickles down from the public school days when the referees were schoolteachers....
Not a game for snowflakes or soy boys if you feel demeened build a bridge and get over it 🤷
Refereeing is not a debate. It’s not the job or right of a player to point out mistakes as that leads to anarchy with players deciding what is right or wrong. It is the AR and TMO job to point out errors or a review after every match.
If football refs had the backing, these guys have, and they treated everybody fairly it would be great. But in football you actually see refs saying fcuk off and similar, so they have to learn as well.
One player only to approach the ref, the captain
Shame soccer referring is as weak as it is. Stop being babies, learn from rugby
Piardi ti amo
To be fair, there are a lot of shite refs out there at the moment. Pearce chiefly amongst them. The incident at 0:32 was a complete joke. The munster player was thrown into the sign -- and somehow the thicko gives Munster a penalty for that. He was an utter embarrassment in the first Ireland/SA test too -- in conjunction with Ben Whitehouse.
All stems from the fact that Barnes was a complete embarrassment in the last RWC -- and instead of making them take responsibility for it, World Rugby let him ref the RWC final. Two inferior teams -- and a shite referring performance -- made it the worst display of rugby at the most critical time. Funnily enough, they still let him spout absolutely shite and take no responsibility for being shite across the entirety of the RWC.
Are you, by any chance, a bitter Ireland fan? Refs make mistakes all the time, it’s part of life
@@matthew3078I'm not even sure they are a rugby fan if they think Pearce is chief amongst shit refs.
@@matthew3078 nope... I'm a realist.... and if they make mistakes, own up to it. Barnes is out there thinking he wasn't utter shite the entirety of the last RWC, and that it is not fair to criticise the refs. Way too many shite refs around -- and no action to either sanction or discard the shite ones. Instead they reward them by giving them appointments they are clearly not deserrving of -- and inferior teams like the Saffas and Kiwis profit from it -- while the game of rugby suffers for it.
@ ahhhhh I see, so it’s coincidence that you picked out refs from games involving Irish teams, gotcha
And I’m willing to bet that refs generally aren’t as shit as biased, emotionally reactive supporters make them out to be.
