Remember that movie, must have been 10 years or something like that!
Every time I see that background with all the models from Battlestar Galactica (including the helmet) and Buck Rogers I am seeing the dreams of my youth! You guys are dream makers, whole generations have your work as part of their imagination! It is a joy to watch this stuff, thanks for continuing to share the legacy and memories.

Speaking of which ... if you can find any early images of the Bowerhouse 'REFINERY' from Ridley's 'ALIEN' (1979) -- the underside was loaded to the gills with STAR WARS, GALACTICA and of course, tons of Tamiya models.
(I was a Film Booker for 20th Century-Fox at the time and had the Exhibitor's Teaser Pics from the first few weeks of principle and model unit stuff)
By the by ------- anyone wanna do a stand-alone ALIEN film with me ..? I got a wicked idea'r been bouncing on my brainpan for years and it's wayyyyy coooool.

This team worked miracles on such a slender budget compared to the bigger films of the day, and the creativity in their design really shows. Love the still towards the end of Morgan Woodward, the unmasked Cayman. He only passed away in 2019, after a very career. Also, the gun being held by the guy in the gas mask (evidently a Coors enthusiast) looks like an upside down Viper fighter model from "Battlestar Galactica" lol.

Nice, so many great models. I’ve always been curious about that practical lighting effect in the walls of the planet Akir set, it looks like flickering rainbow colours and is very pretty.

I totally enjoyed this movie. Good Saturday afternoon popcorn flick. The miniatures still hold up to this day. Loved Robert Vaughn ship & character. 🖖

James Cameron talked about that first short film of his. He got the money from a Consortium of dentists who wanted to break into the film industry. For his part, James Cameron has learned all of his filmmaking from reading papers from the local Film School. Using that knowledge, he was able to Create some Chansey special effects That worked out in the end.

Often times, I think I like these lower budget miniatures better than the big budget ones. Some of the spaceships on this project are absolutely amazing.

I remember watching this as a kid, but also watching a film called Space Raiders, and getting confused at the fact they both used the same special effects.

3:45 I like how the engines on Thad's ship look like the Space Shuttle when it had the engine pods on when transported by a 747.
Also: if there is any way to do a video on *Galaxy of Terror* that would be fantastic! I always wished there were better shots/views of the spaceship from that film.
I almost wish there were more shots of the models. A lot of these I have never seen.

Also, fuckhead, The Magnificent Seven isn't the original.
The Magnificent Seven is Kurosawa's The Seven Samurai remade as a western.
For fuck's sake, read a goddamn book...

its a naked female body, complete with breasts. The story goes that they were having a design competition for the different models and James Cameron reasoned that Roger Corman being an exploitation filmmaker would go for breasts so he designed Nell that way and sure enough Corman picked it.

I mean, he's prolly gonna do the press junket for Avatar 2 and, guaranteed, you'll be the only one asking about Battle Beyond the Stars.

Mmm yes, John Boy in space. And I suspect that what impressed the important people about James Cameron was that he was able to raise money for his project mentioned, and that industry people saw potential in it. But that key skill, fundraising, is incredibly important.

I must give this movie another viewing as I've not seen it since the 80s and I do remember not being very favorable about it. I think it was cause the effects were not as great as Star Wars. I have more appreciation for this sort of thing now.
