that's the perfect word: whimsy. Whimsy was not new in hip hop by this time. First thing that comes to mind is The UMC's "Blue Cheese". Rap has always had a whimsical quality to it. "Apache" is whimsical. Maybe it's the way that Missy is so fuckin relaxed in this song. It's a super dreamlike whimsy. Maybe that was totally new at that time.
2022 and this song STILL doesn't sound dated next to current music! Timbaland's beats are seriously just timeless, I don't know anyone else who's work can withstand time the way his does. There's just no one else like him and I'm so glad I got to be alive during his reign!
You would, because nobody makes unique songs anymore. When you hear a Missy track or Timbaland beat you know who made it. I can't tell any of these rappers apart anymore. They all mumble and speak with weird accents.
"I feel the wind, five six seven, eight nine ten Begin, I sit on Hill's like Lauryn Until the rain starts, coming down, pouring chill, I got my umbrella My finger waves be dazed, they fall like Humpty Chumpy, I break up with him before he dump me To have me yes you lucky (I can't stand the rain!)" 💯🔥
I been on a Missy kick lately listening to a lot of her older stuff, and if you think about it not only did she come out with a new delivery that no one had heard before in the 90's, but she had lyrics and timing. She really could spit.

I wish people who was not alive understand how out of the box this video was. By many it was weird cause Missy did not look like a " Female Rapper" of that time which was ruled by Foxy and Kim and the video was so different from anything out at that time. Missy is the greatest female rapper of all time
True dat, Missy was and still is my favorite Female Rapper. Music during this time, being the 90's is way better than the CRAP we hear today. I still find myself 30 years later going back to listen to real Rap/Hip-Hop music instead of the autotune B.S and the Shitty mumble "NON-Rap" nonsense of today.

Her and busta rhymes videos were🔥🔥🔥
Hype Williams -Director
"Got to be ft Janet Jackson "
Yup. Those were the 2 u always looked forward to because u knew it was gonna be creative and have some serious choreography
Ludacris too.
So ahead of the time and underrated.
Lil Kim with that Chanel gear omg I wanted to be her LOL.
Yessss,Indeed!❤️🫶🏾💯
This will never die!! 2022!
Truth.👆
Beep beep … 2022 it bee
I was in the 10th grade when this came out in 1997. It's a classic
Uptop..
Listening still in New Orleans
Her songs age so well over the years. Hip hop during the 90s and early 2000s was so good
late 90s and 2000s is where it all went wrong and got worser
Missy is underrated like...GAWD she looks like she doesn’t age and her style is different and beautiful
Curious...what is the talking about in this song when she says its my window I can't stand the rain? What is she referring to??
Tiffany Hubbard This is a sample of Ann Peebles‘ 1974 hit single “I Can’t Stand the Rain.”
She's a certified rap legend. She's at the top of the food chain. She's damn sure no underrated.
Afro Sage 😬
@@tiffanyh3176 against my window
When hip hop was beautiful. SMH I miss it.
If you never heard this song you wouldn't know it's 20yrs old. Easily better than what's coming out now.
It was in 1997 I enjoy listening to this song 22 years ago when I was a little kid
When you hear the beat your like wtf then yr like ok, ok, then your hooked dancing with your 🍸 drink
You would, because nobody makes unique songs anymore. When you hear a Missy track or Timbaland beat you know who made it. I can't tell any of these rappers apart anymore. They all mumble and speak with weird accents.
NEVER BEEN TRUER OMFG I CAN'T STAND MUSIC TODAY
"I feel the wind, five six seven, eight nine ten
Begin, I sit on Hill's like Lauryn
Until the rain starts, coming down, pouring chill,
I got my umbrella
My finger waves be dazed, they fall like Humpty
Chumpy, I break up with him before he dump me
To have me yes you lucky (I can't stand the rain!)" 💯🔥
One of the most visually stunning videos ever produced.
So ahead of her time. Timeless.
Cameo appearances from Timberland, Yo-Yo, Total, 702, Da Brat, Puff Daddy, Lil' Kim, Lil' Cease, Taj of SWV. The 90's was everything.
Except P Diddy is a sick disgusting pig unfortunately but who knew back then
I think Aylia as well
Yeah they used to do alot of cameos on each othes music videos back in the day
grindsted sisters I'm so sad r i h to both we miss you Irish & orish 💔💔🙏🙏
Gotta love the cameos in music videos back in the 90s...
She probably helped write music for a lot of the people that cameo-ed in it. I heard that's what she was doing before her career took off.
The production on this track feels so fresh and original even for today's standards. And those crickets!
Missy wit the finger waves is unmatched
I been on a Missy kick lately listening to a lot of her older stuff, and if you think about it not only did she come out with a new delivery that no one had heard before in the 90's, but she had lyrics and timing. She really could spit.
Here cause our girl getting THE MICHAEL JACKSON VANGUARD AWARD. TOO PROUD OF OUR GIRL. BEEN TIME SUCE SHE SHOULDA BEEN GIVEN IT.
Jerome Leon meee I’m proud of her man honestly I was crying now im rewatching all her videos

I was 17 in 1997...GREATEST YEAR IN MUSIC EVER...when this came out I was simply mesmerized. And all these years later it STILL sounds new.
Same here, I was 17 back them. What I wouldn't give to relive those days again.
1997 hits:
NEXT- too close
K-CI $ JoJo- All my life
Puffy/Mace- Cant nobody hold me down
Puffy- I’ll be missing you
Puffy- Been around the world
Dangerous- Busta Rhymes
Butterfly/Honey- Mariah Carey
Put your hand where my eyes could see-Busta
Wow I was too lol
Big claim
That's Hard to argue against, but 92-98 was incredible. Can you remember who that is @2:05? I can't put my finger on it. She's in multiple;e spots but I froze it at 2:05
Who else bumping this into 2024 ✌🏾
Me cuz it’s a banger js like get ur freak on
💯🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🤗🧡👍
Me!💯
THEN n now both !
THIS BEAT IS STILL FUTURISTIC !!! TIMBO AND MISSY ARE EXTRATERRESTRIAL!!!
🛸🛸👽👽💯💯
Missy Elliot and Busta Rhymes had the most innovative videos in rap
They used Hype Williams as a director a lot. He did this video. So much talent & originality from the 3 of them!!
And Kanye (he also collaborated with Hype)
This song and video was way ahead of its time. Both have aged very well.
@hkq999 Heh. And look at aaaalll of Busta's videos of the time. So much fisheye you'll think you're a shark.
1:51 Kim definitely shaped the feminine esthetic in hip-hop & pop culture, and came up with so many looks its crazy. And also, she did it waaaay back. Honestly, it needs to be studied as a PHD thesis topic.
"We so tight that you get our styles tangled." 🔥🔥🔥
💯🎵🎶🔥💯
Swag
Her music videos are honestly the best, close second to MJ;s videos
That is true!
what about bustah =D
Bustah too!
tibitop That gimme some mo' video!
janet too!
Damn it Lil Kim @ 3:02
She was so pretty back then
U mean so pretty B(l)ack then
I don't know why they didn't colab more.
Between Ladies Night and Mulon Rouge you think they would have more
Lil Kim was so beautiful! She didn't need all of the plastic surgery
lol she has sun glasses covering her whole face. sooo pretty.
Fuck lil kim Missy was a fine big woman. She look weird as fuck now.
In 2024 and she was ahead of her time if she dropped TODAY!
I love all the cameos. 90s was poppin
Was just coming here to say this!! So much 90’s greatness in one video!!!
That's my favorite part. All the cameos took me back. I was a fan of all of them.
Goosebumps. They don't make em like this anymore.
Jerry right though.
Jerry.. Isn't she incredible?!?
Jerry SAY IT
She's always included her sisters :)
Rayon Bizarre yes!!!! Now females "beef" for attention
Nicki isn't a girl's girl. She is very insecure
Rayon Bizarre k
ALWAYS!!!
I can only try to get over how crazy good this video and song is. ❤Missy
Now this my damn Jam they don't make em like this any more Missy Elliot was light years ahead of her time I just wish she still was making music the Game needs her
Yeah. I agree Missy was light years beyond her time . She put these new age rap artists to shame. She wore clever outfits and sexy hairstyles which accompanied her floetic persona she slayed the hiphop world, with her clthes on😍😘😉😊 there will not ever be another like her.
She wasn't 'lightyears' ahead, alot of sum great artists were from her time like Jay, nas, dmx, the lox etc.. dat was hip hops peak fr till drill music nd twerk songs came out nd da substance of rap transformed into wat u hear now.. but my man meek got out of jail last week tho
andrew duarte Fuck meek mill he's garbage and shouldn't even be mentioned in this conversation. Missy was light years ahead of her time you dumb fuck
andrew duarte Of course he's making millions...off of idiots and he has to use that million on royalties. Being signed the "hottest" group comes with lengthy ass contracts and anybody can make a mixtape. The question is can you go triple platinum more than twice? I'll wait... **looks at watch**
***** You know what? I wanna know that question as well, I was just waiting for a response. Look, I'm 20 and I don't even know any of these people, assuming that they all sound like shit and I don't care if they sound like an ass. I only came here, to this video, for Missy and only missy...and to recall the legendary cameos involving YoYo, Tahj from SWV, 702, Da Brat, Bad Boy Entertainment, Junior MAFIA....yeah, that's that good shit....excuse my language.
Yo. My 80s & 90s kids who still bumping to this jam. 🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥
I was born in 78 and i still bump this song
Born in 2002 bumping this like I was born in the 90s
Me.
hell yeah you know that's right
@@1988benzwitlouisvseats fr, we both 2002 & love it
Missy has always been a queen. She is a staple in hip-hop, and changed the 90s!! She is not only talented, but a wonderful woman. I LOVE her!
Out of this world now 🙏🏾🙏🏾📡📡
Yessss!🚀🚀
I feel sad for the people that are only just discovering Missy, but also beyond happy she is finally getting the recognition she deserves!
This lady is just legendary. Missy is undeniably a trendsetter, hands down!🙌
whoever did her finger waves deserves an award
Stella K bruh ..they are the G.O.A.T
usher
Stella K hell yea her waves were always poppin' 😊😊😍
I used to do my cousin's hair just like that too!! Not many ppl can master the art of waves.
On point!!
ooooooohoooo! I luv me some Missy, yes indeed I ga-run-tee.
She is in the 2023 Rock and Rock Hall of Fame Nominees please go vote!
I agree she is even Wayne put her in his top 5 and I see why.
She IS the greatest rapper of all time...just my humble opinion
Yeah I remembered when this dropped. It was mind-blowing!!! Nothing & I mean NOTHING looked or sounded like this. Everybody was in music videos littered with Halle Berry/Nia Long, barbie doll look alikes & here came missy. Big girl. Baggy clothes. In this big ass bubble plastic bag ensemble thingy 🤣😂. It was so futuristic & artistic. And then you added timberland’s beats. Yo I played this song until I passed out at night. It was the first CD I ever bought 🥹
Missy Elliot has the freakiest music videos man. Still a damn good song.
+Izurin GREATEST music videos .... really does , best hip hop videos of all time (Work It & Gossip Folk are CLASSICS)
like dude below said , those and Busta Rhymes Gimmie Some More & Dangerous ((videos SUCK now)
busta rhynes would like a word with you
love it. her, busta, and luda have the craziest producers.
Why can't female rappers be like this today and come together n be in each others videos like this
everybody wants to be the queen
+Andre McClain fr
He literally read my mind! But they all wanna be the best they act like they're too good for each other
Cause the Superficiality of Capitalism Killed the Music Industry ...!
The Devil replace the creativity by " Boobs Ass Money Hate F---k ..."!
Montrell Th. Cause it's a different generation.
The most unique rapper ever! Idc what anybody says, has never and can never be imitated.
