  • Wilfred Reilly, author of "Lies My Liberal Teacher Told Me," unpacks how we've been taught to believe complete myths about our history. He emphasizes the importance of going straight to the source and checking the data for yourself. If we trust the average person to serve on a jury, we can certainly trust them to use critical thinking to draw their own informed conclusions about the world. Wilfred illustrates how deeply ingrained myths can become, referencing popular narratives about Native American cultures, the Red Scare, and more.

  • @markkirby9531
    @markkirby9531 Місяць тому +3

    I have advocated this for years, but the word "lie" has incorrectly become synonymous with "wrong".
    Being "wrong" means that one's statement is not factually correct.
    "lying" means one knows, a priori, that one is making an incorrect statement, and is doing so to gain some sort of advantage.
    The difference, isn't subtle, from a moral standpoint. The a priori part is of significant importance.
    There are plenty of people who are simply wrong, be that due to lack of data, belief in what others have told them, embracing a specific ideology, etc.
    This isn't a good thing, but as long as they don't believe what they are saying is false, they cannot be said to be "lying".
    IMHO, this is not all that different than the fact that literally no longer literally means literality.
    Language is a tool that helps us communicate our thoughts to other people. If two people don't have a common understanding of meanings and definitions of terms, then true communication is impossible.

    I'm Native, born and raised on a reservation, and we definitely lived in better balance with nature than the industrious people that moved in. Natives worshipped nature, so that's a terrible argument to use. but the problem is that the nature worshippers of today think that trumps everything else. That fact alone makes Native Americans morally superior to people who don't worship nature, and worship God instead. How one treats nature is a small part of what makes a people virtuous, but the woke environmentalists of the day elevate it to the nth degree. There's a romanticism with Native Americans that almost strips us of our humanity. I tell people all the time, treat Natives like you would treat white conservative males. Treat Natives like regular fallen humanity.

    With the rise of the internet and it's increasingly tight grip on what you watch/linger on PSYOPs have become increasingly effective. There are teams of very intelligent people backed by very deep pockets whose single goal is to find a way to make you subconsciously agree with what they are saying. It is not easy to keep your own council these days, because something you firmly perceive to be true one day can change overnight with realization of another opinion. I've always listened to news by first considering the source, and then considering who would benefit from it. I'll watch CNN and then cross check with FOX, for example. CNN will tell you the sky is Green, FOX will say it is purple and the truth is that it is Blue. The truth is out there....somewhere ~ Skully.

    The best way, indeed, the only way, to inoculate oneself from the lies of the world is to study history and philosophy. If one does this with diligence and purpose, a point will be reached when one's knowledge of human nature will equate to a level of wisdom and discernment that provides insulation from deceit and cynical manipulation.
