2+ year 2008 Acura TSX 6MT owner here 🖐🏻 After my 2 year ownership, it's been a decent car. Car suffers from major body roll so I installed a Progress sway bar on the back, improved driving significantly 💯 Also the car was made for an automatic gearbox, so throttle response is terrible thanks to the DBW. Downshifting can be a real headache. I had 2 major repairs so far. The infamous front suspension failure which yileded me $1k worth of repairs. My ECU failed when it wouldn't respond to my immobilizer, but I got it replaced free of charge because of a recall from years ago. The verdict? Great car! Expect to purchase parts for it like it's an Acura, not a Honda. It's like the poor man's TL but with Honda's bulletproof K24a2 engine.
05 tsx 6 speed w/133k miles was my first car. So much fun to learn stick on and it saved my life when someone blew a light running from the cops totaling it. 06+ have 205 hp, better tech and the ac compressors don’t implode as frequently 10/10 recommend thinking about getting another

I had a tsx and I agree, it’s one of the best daily’s you could ask for. Huge modding potential and super comfortable, I took mine on long road trips all over. Carved canyon roads and camper with it and would drive back home 10 hours no issues. Great cars
Honorable mention 2004-2008 Saab 9-3 Aero. Has a 2.8L Turbocharged v6 that, with a few bolt-ons, can make mid 400 to 500hp. Can get it in a 6 speed manual also. Parts are also pretty attainable since this is the era of Saab when it was a GM parts bin. The 2.0/arc models are nice as well since its basically a fancy cobalt with a similar ecotech motor. Their pretty reliable and fun cars with a simple tune.
This is a good recommendation. SportCombi could haul a whole family and all their possessions, but I think there's some caveats to explore. When I think of the v6 aero I think of heat soak problems and axle failures, and I would absolutely recommend a metal coolant reservoir (the crack all the time) and not putting the car too low. I'd also say that the older 2.0T Aeros/Vectors depending on year and market, are a better option if you're a more handling focused driver; Having driven a tuned v6 and 2.0T back to back on the same roads, with the same tires, suspension, and alignment, I can say that the point in of the front end is a night and day difference.
As far as S60Rs go for anyone interested the major maintenance you need to address are the timing components as it’s an interference engine and the PCV system. Those are the two major things that could kill the car. The car doesn’t have a “pcv valve” it has a interworking of various hoses and a charcoal box that makes up the pcv system and when not replaced in a timely manner or if you drive the vehicle short distances and like a grandma it will get clogged up ultimately resulting it in pushing out a cam seal and giving you a major oil leak (the engine doesn’t use a traditional valve cover or gasket) The Volvo 5 cylinder engines sound amazing and have a lot of potential but parts are expensive to buy and the 83mm bore 2.5l engines do have weaker blocks than the 81mm bore ones found in the T5s.
06-08 M-B CLS 500 or 550, you can find clean examples under 100k miles for 6k-8k lol, depending what motor you get it’s 302hp or 382hp, you get shift buttons (paddle shifters) on the back of the steering wheel too. This was the first 4-door coupe even before Audi’s A7/S7/RS7 & BMW’s Gran Coupe Options
Here in brazil, the 8th Gen Civic Si Sedan is getting into prices of 60k, 70k, 80k and even 120k for a 2008 / 2009 car, it's absurd but it's worthy here.
I never understood why Acura never gave the 1st gen TSX the Type S treatment. They gave the 04-08 TL a Type S version for the '07 and '08 model years. A Type S TSX would've been dope and got even more power at least 220-230hp and 200lb-ft of tq. Nevertheless, I would choose the 8th gen Civic Si and the '04-'08 TSX as my picks.
I got an 01 Buick Regal GS for $3000. Factory supercharged 3800. Bought the stage 2 kit from ZZP for less than a grand, extra 30-40hp and more whine/supercharger noises.
Honorable mention no one is going to mention. 2010/2011 Buick Lacrosse CXS Touring. 280hp/259ft/lbs, 6 speed auto, active H arm rear and a similar front setup to the Regal GS, All of the luxury bells and whistles too, it's quite a luxurious car. I had the remote sunshade, rear media headrest, HK sound system, heads up display, heated and cooled seats, heated steering wheel. Had it on 5th gen SS wheels. Only thing to watch out for are timing chains, some preventative maintenance will take care of that.

I want 4 seats(don't care if 4 doors), ideally rwd, and under 3400lbs with around 200-300hp stock and the ability to take turbocharging for 450whp plus. There's an E46 325i in my area for $2800 and has 214k miles (looks immaculate though) and I'm wondering if it's a good idea. I currently don't have a car at all and my budget is an absolute practical max of $4500 cash. Not taking any loans out this time around.

by no means would i say volvos of that era are on the fence between econo and luxury cars. i would say that they are luxury cars as the interior is much nicer than lexus's, acuras, infinitis and 90 percent of bmws all from that era and majority of volvos of that era ride nicely asides from the more performance based models like the s60
Volvo s60r mentioned probably the best on the list the t5 is also a good choice 2.3l is a stronger block you don't have to deal with block cracking issue that the 2.5l in the R's have.
Finna probably get hate for this but what about the 7th gen Malibu with the v6 option, the v6 is the same 3.6l from the 5th gen base model Camaro but the 3.6 in the Malibu only makes 252 hp but can be tuned to 300hp, reliability is good for a v6 American car. Bad things are cheap plastic interior, FWD and doesn’t come in manual ofc since it’s not really a sports car. But it’s good if u want something that has decent pickup speed and isn’t known for being fast. Basically it’s the same platform as the Saturn Aura just looks better imo.
Gs300 comes with the 2jz-ge not the 2jz-gte I wouldn’t recommend adding a turbo to the 2jz ge. They say they can handle boost but in reality they can’t I’ve seen multiple gs300s blown not even in the 400whp range.

slight correction. 8th gen si also has a k24, they have the k24z3 whilst the tsx had the k24a2. the k24a is the best one you can have but thats only in the jdm versions of the car. but for usdm the tsx has the best stock motor and the 8th gen si is great too. pretty sure the 8th gen head flows a lil bit better too so a lot of people do the frankenstein with the tsx bottom and si head. rsx type s oil pump is the best to throw on these things and then stock internals your're ready for at least 400whp with boost.
There's absolutely nothing wrong with FF/FWD , you just gotta know how to actually drive! Real skill doesn't manifest only when you're in your most ideal setup. It's proven by being able to drive anything well, if not expertly. Also, that whole "enthusiasts drive manuals or nothing" claim is so f*cking tired and played. A manual is a preference. And outside of that, it's one real benefit is that you can bump start/clutch start/push start a manual trans vehicle. A truly good DCT or sequential trans will always be better in every way!! Thing PDK's,DSG's, and a Shift-Tronic. Or full race spec sequentials where you start off with the clutch and just slap and ride! (Pun very much intended). I have nothing against people who love a manual, or manual trans vehicles. I can easily drive stick, I just don't prefer it by any means. What I don't like is the tired lie of "real men/women drive stick", or car enthusiasts only drive stick. Again, a tired and verrrrrrrry very old lie! And no, drag racers don't prefer them either. Drag racers prefer going faster than everyone else. That can only be done with Autos, DCT's, and Sequentials. Btw, all of the Lexus GS, LS, & SC series between their beginning and about 2009 are perfect cars!!! You won't find better, unless it's another Lexus or Toyota. Acura is pretty close too! They're almost tied. Almost. Toyota ftw!
Dct might be technically better but you won't find a reliable one in this price range. When it comes to old cars the manuals are far more reliable than the autos and are more fun to boot

Try 2005-2006 6-speed manual 3.5 SE Nissan Altima, you won't believe how fast it goes with full bolt-ons and a tune.
