Oh yeah and Billy Powell on the piano is just so amazing. I can play that part but it's hard to play it as well as he does and also I would really have to brush up on it just a little bit but it wouldn't take me about 30 minutes of working at it to be ready to play it in a band in a live situation, which I have before. In fact I've played They call me the Breeze live a number of times and whenever you start the song, this huge cheer goes up and then everybody just starts rocking out and dancing their asses off to it. This is a barnburner, it really is.
And he describes specific scenes while being kind of general in a poetic sense. In that one verse, it could be in an airport, it could be at a train terminal it could be at a bus terminal, and a guy has met his end with this, and someone can clearly see that he's in pain and ask him what's wrong, and he said it was the needle and the spoon, and the trip to the moon, it took me away. It's heartbreaking for anyone that knows anybody suffering like that.❤ But for what it's worth, regardless of the specifics, They Call Me the breeze, which is a cover of a JJ Cale song, but the Lynyrd Skynyrd song here, it's basically an anthem to a whole section of culture. It's hard to describe how much it means.
I know I'm a day late with this comment, but you have just reacted to my favorite Lynyrd Skynyrd song: Call Me The Breeze. Glad you enjoyed it so much! I know Sweet Home Alabama is their most-recognized song, but Call Me The Breeze just has that rockin' partyin' tune to it dialed up to 11.
That song Was I Right or Wrong in the bonus material, that was actually on another collection of stuff they recorded at Muscle Shoals and all of it is incredible. I would absolutely react to was I right or wrong.?
Hard to believe such great guitarists (three of them!!!) could coalesce in one band! And they changed the roster too! And then Billy Powell's piano virtuosity on top of it all. This song is from the great JJ Cale, who passed away 10 years ago. Skynyrd did it justice! 🎸🎸🎸😎👌
Watch this song from Old Grey Whistle Test in 1975. Great visual of the solos by Gary Rossington on guitar and Billy Powell on piano on that particular video. You’ll love it.
Call Me The Breeze cover by Lynyrd Skynyrd is my all-time favourite song of theirs. It is immense fun and a rocking, dancing groove to die for! I thought, how is Silas' ass still in the chair? And then you leapt up! How could you not? I love every thing about this song, but the highlight for me is Billy Powell's solo. I'm a guitar guy, so for a piano solo to be the main event in a rock song, it has to be stellar!
Great album and great band but you have to listen to the live version of this on the "One More From the Road" album. They are so much more powerful live than studio. I promise you will be blown away when you hear them live.
Anyone who is a big piano fan and hasn't heard THE THE Uncertain Smile - well....get on it! One of the greatest piano solo's I've ever heard in a song. Elton John of course is always greatness, Leon Russell as well.
Oh yeah and they have a few other songs like this that warned of the dangers of addiction, but The Needle and the Spoon is a classic. I can't tell you how many times I've heard this on the jukebox at places for on the radio and for some reason it is a big fan favorite.
Billy powel was a classical trained piano player who was a roadie for the band .they had no idea he could play like that until they heard him playing after a show ... they fired him as a roadie and asked him to join the band ... for my money he is the best boggie piano player ever
So cool to see the younger generation enjoy the music that I was brought up on. I saw them 5 times in Denver, the last being g 4 months before the crash
N & S was heavily influenced by Cream. The guitar solo has Gary using the wha wha pedal basically just up & down but very effectively. That solo you’re enjoying so much on Breeze is Gary again & he did that effortlessly live as well. Then there’s Billy Powell’s piano solo that just smokes & he keeps it rolling thru the horn section too. You want piano? Check out Billy on their live version of “T For Texas”.
As I recall, the single version isn't much different than the album version, so I don't really see any reason to do that other than just every Lynyrd Skynyrd song No matter how many times you hear it just grows on you more and more, laugh. But I would 100% absolutely do Was I Right or Wrong?
I don't care for the single version of Questions. You should go back and do their first album too. Pronounced. All their albums are top notch I was there when it happened. Saw the original lineup several times as well as the later incarnations. They were MAGIC. I cried my eyes out when the plane event down. Never really got over it. My CB handle was Mr Breeze throughout the 70s.
Absolutely, I totally agree. I loved everything off that first and last compilation it came out not long before the crash. I think those songs were from their Muscle Shoals sessions and there are some real gems in there, including this one. White Dove is one of the most beautiful songs I've heard. Down South Jukin' is just amazing. It's just amazing.
You gotta do a full album review of Van Halen I and Appetite for Destruction. Gotta ask for Quadrophenia as well. All 3 are legendary, groundbreaking albums.
A little disappointed with your review of Needle and the spoon. agree that it's not a musical masterpiece. The lyrics are so very deep you just skipped right over it without even looking at what the song was even about.
Breeze is definitely my favorite Skynyrd song, and it's all about that piano solo, which is just filthy.
Love Skynyrds cover of the great JJ Cale song Call me the Breeze. Southern rock at it's best.
Lynyrd Skynyrd was the best band ever put together in the history of music...

This Kids is SOUTHERN ROCK AT ITS FINEST!!!!!!!
Billy Powell (keys) was a classically trained pianist. He was awesome!
That was a Wah pedal on that middle guitar solo and it's done so masterfully, just so much attention to detail and yet he could do it in his sleep.
Yep.
Allen Collins
Billy Powell on piano! what a key member of this band
Nice pun!
WARNING....cruise control on, foot off the gas, if call me the breeze comes on while driving.
I wish my standard pick up had cruise control. Definitely would have saved me for me $300 ticket.
Billy Powell tickling the ivory's.
If I’m having a bad day I put this song on and go for a drive. Instantly all is right with the universe.
Billy Powell, was a classically trained piano player that was working for them as a roadie before they discovered his talent. The rest is history!
Honorable mention: those handclaps and the whistle. Perfectly placed.
Needle and the Spoon is a big anti-drug song, and it’s written from their personal experiences.
And he describes specific scenes while being kind of general in a poetic sense. L S were one of the Greatest.

That guitar sound on Needle & Spoon is a Wah pedal.
Watch this song from Old Grey Whistle Test in 1975. Great visual of the solos by Gary Rossington on guitar and Billy Powell on piano on that particular video. You’ll love it.
Allen's solo with the wah pedal is the best.
Those 3 songs you allude to at the end are bonus tracks that weren’t included on the original pressing of this album. They were later added
Mr Breeze has got some good stank on it 😂, love that piano and horns through it

Both of those last two songs are great.
Great album and great band but you have to listen to the live version of this on the "One More From the Road" album. They are so much more powerful live than studio. I promise you will be blown away when you hear them live.
That album is so overlooked by reactors. I grimace at the chopped up ending in the live Oakland Freebird video! Ugh
One more from the road is 1 of the greatest live albums of all time. And it is the best way to listen to the band at their best
FYI, Billy Powell, was a concert pianist 😎😎👍👍👍😎😎, he was B/A😁😁😁
Anyone who is a big piano fan and hasn't heard THE THE Uncertain Smile - well....get on it! One of the greatest piano solo's I've ever heard in a song. Elton John of course is always greatness, Leon Russell as well.
The effect was the wah pedal.
One of my favorite songs of all time. Everything is just perfect on this song.
Oh yeah and they have a few other songs like this that warned of the dangers of addiction, but The Needle and the Spoon is a classic. I can't tell you how many times I've heard this on the jukebox at places for on the radio and for some reason it is a big fan favorite.

Call Me the Breeze is,,,,,, SPECIAL 💥💥💥👍😎
Original band members. Most were high school age buddies. From Jacksoville Fla.
Love these songs. Perfect songs, the winds carry the notes. Many songs of warning. We listened. Love Billy on his piano.
Wah wah peddle and solo by the great Allen Collins 🤟
If you want to play the piano solo watch the live videos. One keeps the keyboard in focus for most of it. He plays almost the whole thing one-handed!
Oh, I apologize, sum, Hank Williams Jr, and, sum Bob Seger 😎😎👍👍👍😎😎
Awesome Silas that's how you pick an air guitar! : )

Please do Don't ask me no questions and it would be fun to see you play the piano.
You just gotta you just got to❤
You may like Triumph since you like Boston
That's a wah wah pedal
wah wah pedal
And, if U lyke piano, U need, more Skynyrd, more Elton John, sum Billy Joel, and U (GOTTA HAV), sum, Jerry Lee Lewis 😎😎😎👍👍👍👍😎
Unfortunately, this song is too relevant today. Even more potent H and Fentanyl - so devastating the number of ODs.
A little disappointed with your review of Needle and the spoon. agree that it's not a musical masterpiece. The lyrics are so very deep you just skipped right over it without even looking at what the song was even about.
Wow. Deleted my comment. Been here since you were at 1k.
UNSUBSCRIBING.
Little man.
They don't do it. UA-cam does.
