Ranger build is the best thing y'all have done. The more entry level stuff like high low and money pit is fun and all but for me (and probably others who already have experience with normal modifications and typical project car stuff) have a lot more to learn from an uncommon, fabrication-heavy, motorsport build like this imo. Nolan's doing a great job hosting it too.

@3:10 another thing to go along with zip tying nuts, is also keep a big neodymium magnet in a ziploc bag suck somewhere on the truck in case you drop a tool/part into that silt. Then you just dip the magnet in the silt and move it around and pick up whatever you dropped. It's easier to pull the tools/parts off the magnet if there's plastic around the magnet

Nice to see Aaron again. The first season of Hi-Low is the best thing Donut has done. Aaron basically carrying Low team by making all the garbage parts fit (and work better than they had any right to) was some of Donut's best content. Really evened the playing field with Zach on High team. S1 of High-Low really had a "We chose the best option" vibe for High car and that was enjoyable, and that slowly turned into "How can we possibly spend more money on this thing" by the end of the 350Z series. I would love to see another season but really think both ends of the spectrum should be realistic choices. I think a lot more people could relate.
I was a safety steward when I raced in SCCA OMR SOLO2 back in the day! Really loved that job, and our group. As long as it wasn't a big job to fix something, we'd all get together, and do what we could to help the person pass!

@ $100,000 they maybe are about half way to the actual cost from building a Baja from scratch to race day. Not bad if you ask me. And check out them parts prices they kinda under prices what they have in it
trophy trucks arent cheap. they still spent half of what teams spend on real trophy trucks to run these races. real ones from real teams cost upwards of $200k - $250k. you can find some for sale afterwards for around $250k - $300k .... motorsports are NEVER cheap.
Totally normal for purpose built race cars/trucks. This is "budget" for trophy trucks. Even in your budget racing series (Think Spec Miata or Pro3/SpecE30), building a car from the ground up is easily a $25-30k proposition for something not front-running. And it rises super fast. Wanna do Spec E46? Just buying someone's already built car is easily $40k for a decent one and it can be $60k+. That doesn't factor the cost to build it yourself were you to do so

As I reported it back in the day "I went to BK, the one near the Autobahn where they have two exits to the main road? Yeah I took the 0.5th of those with the grassy knoll that drops 4ft onto the parking lot...at 40mph...with a drunk russian in the back and a case of beers in the trunk. Flew a solid 15ft or so, landed hard, lost the exhaust and 3 out of 4 hubs BUT the axle was fine, the engine kept running smooth and the 306 has NEVER sounded better. Xtra Long Chili Cheese was good, though. The russian didn't want anything but go home" My buddy in the passenger seat and i had the time of our lives just telling that one with the car next to me...the russian never mentioned it😅😅😅

Just a small tip but is really important, the passenger when test driving was way to tall for the seat… his back was too long for the harness holes in the seat… if something would have happend he broke his shoulders immediately. So keep those small things in mind 👍🏼 Love the build so far!

Yup the weak link of the twin I beam has always been those tie rods. Every prerunner you see has an after market tie rod. Especially that long drive link that runs from the pitman arm side to the passenger side. I have a stock 4wd 91 f150 and every time I get to spinning good in 4wd I think about that right tire suddenly finding traction and folding that tie rod. It’s going to happen one day. Then I’ll upgrade. lol.
11:40 tech time here that system works because there is a 0 to 90 ohm (in gm senders) resistance in that sending unit that goes to the computer. The sensor is known as a potentiometer four wires, and they work flawlessly.

I really enjoy this ranger build...one thing I heard from another Baja racing team was that they lost their transmission in the middle of a race after a jump. I'd have the skid plate that's under the bumper go all the way to the start of the drive shaft. (I mean that the bolts snapped and the transmission fell out out of the truck.)

I really enjoy this ranger build...one thing I heard from another Baja racing team was that they lost their transmission in the middle of a race after a jump. I'd have the skid plate that's under the bumper go all the way to the start of the drive shaft.
(I mean that the bolts snapped and the transmission fell out out of the truck.)
