One of the most disliked scenes in all of Dragon Ball is when Goku gives Cell a senzu bean before his fight with Gohan. While I find people’s hatred for the scene more a misunderstanding of what’s actually going on rather than valid criticism - I think it does leave the question open as to what would have happened if he didn’t. So for today’s Dragon Ball what if, we enter the Cell Saga of Dragon Ball Z and ask the question - What If Goku DIDN’T Give Cell a Senzu Bean?
Our story begins at the moment Son Goku decides to resign from his fight with Cell. Everyone is in shock that Goku would resign from this fight and they’re only more astonished when Goku announces Gohan as the next fighter to face Cell. Goku explains his plan to everyone and despite protests from Piccolo - Gohan’s words make it clear he might be far stronger than anyone imagined, even if he isn’t confident in that fact himself.

Gohan's biggest mistake is not realizing that he was fighting to SAVE the damn planet because his father wasn't strong enough to do it
I feel Goku could have but he was just headstrong about Gohan doi ng it,his mind was made up to let Gohan win.
You don't think he was ready for his opponents after Frieza & Namek? I think Goku couldve gone ss2 and figured it out while he was in the chamber but he didnt use it tol later. Again I say that cause he was very bent on Gohan beating Cell.

He literally fought Cell & was toying with Cell how do we know Goku was toying with Cell? Cause Goku told Cell theres no way Cell could beat him with his stolen fighting techniques. & he also fought Cell for GOHAN TO SEE CELLS FIGHTING STYLE so all of that let's us know that Goku was toying with Cell. But like I said,he was headstrong.
& goku couldnt go train another yr cause the hyperbolic chamber back then was very limited on usage. Even when Goku and Gohan went to Corrins tower before the tournament we Know Goku didnt use all of his power for Corrin to test his powers.
We know Goku taught just about everybody how to suppress their power levels. He didnt go ss2 against Cell cause he didnt want to take the spotlight.
Goku wasnt fighting Cell to beat him,he fought him so Gohan could watch.
It's all just a theory but it makes complete sense. Cause I say it we know Goku is a bluffer.
Like when he fought Kidd Buu and he passed out so Vegeta could fight. He made us think he actually got exhausted but he didnt he fainted on purpose so Vegeta could fight.
He told Kidd Buu on kai planet "I couldve beaten you when you were fat buu,but I wanted the boys to have a crack at saving the world"
That's literally the same mindset he had with Gohan vs Cell. He couldve beaten Cell but he wanted Gohan to do it.
Oh & Goku trained more than Gohan did in the chamber,remember he was still training while Gohan was asleep.

The biggest reason why Chichi was okay with training later down the road was because of Goku's death humbling her. Losing him opened her eyes. so if Goku never died there's always that possibility she may never have that character growth.
There's also the fact that she did have an appreciation for martial arts regardless, but she felt Goku's hyper dedication was detrimental.

To me the only thing Goku really screwed up was not being straight up with Gohan during their training about the game plan. I feel like the main reason Gohan struggled with his confidence was because it was such a shock to him to consider having to defeat someone his father couldn't.
Goku should have said, "Look, your ceiling is higher because of the special power you have. I'm going to train you to use that and that's how we're going to beat Cell." With a years time Gohan could have been WAY more mentally prepared than he was.
Cell was confident he could beat everyone on that cliffside even while exhausted and even after seeing Gohan OHKO the Cell Jrs he wasn't worried at all, implying he could do the same.
And then he didnt

People don't realize what he was doing.....he was helping Cell to have a chance to get Gohan's full potential out of him.

Considering cell's dna both being frieza and vegeta, a low powered cell might have gotten desperate even if he was winning and self destruct earlier events play out the same expectat for a ssj 1 gohan not having been pushed into ssj 2
What I would have changed is Goku actually dying and Gohan keeping up with his training, and the Buu saga going relatively normally except with Gohan being a lot stronger.

There’s a what if about that, called “what if Gohan kept up with his training”. But I’m not sure if you’re including this what if too.
@@-ASTROMAGIC Gohan would have still been too cocky and played around with Super Buu. He would have been able to fight evenly against Buutenks, though, and he and Goku would fuse into Gokhan, and when Vegeta arrives, they all get absorbed and the three of them rescue Good Buu, Gotenks and Piccolo. Then once out, Gohan claps Kid Buu.

Finally someone who had understand that a SSJ don´t mean that different SSJ´s have the same amount of power at the same SSJ level. One SSJ can have much different amount of KI from another SSj. Well done, bro, well done :))

Tbh I personally feel like the moment cell would be overwhelmed he would legit try to kill everyone before gohan could go ssj2 but thats my opinion.
Gotta say, it's actually really refreshing hearing a perspective that actually explains why Goku had done what he had done with Cell at the tournament, instead of just regularly bashing him for his actions. Your videos are amazing man, keep up the good work.
You should do what if vegeta didn’t let cell become perfect
The only difference I could think of is Goku would survive and no ssj2 until around Buu saga and there MIGHT not be a ssj3 other than that no difference.

I can agree with Cell getting a surprise kill on Goku. However, due to the goals of Akira at the time, I guarantee that Cell would also take out the senzu beans at the same time. In other words, Goku would die, just like in the canon story.

I realized that every mistake in Dragon Ball ends up being beneficial.
Taking into account, if Goku didn't give him a senzu, Gohan wouldn't have sacrificed himself to train himself for the buu saga, therefore NOT acieving ssj3 and gohan and everyone else would have died.
But wait, would the cameraman's camera still break?
Did the fight get broadcasted in its entirety? Even if the fighting was too fast to track, the public would have seen the slow and talking moments. Plus Cell's death. No way for Mr. Satan to claim the victory if people saw he never got back on the ring.
I'm not sure why Cell was tired to begin with... he has TWO 'Infinite energy' Androids inside him at this point. He should be healed as quick as he can catch his breath... AKA Fully Healed by the time Goku throws him a bean.
Plus Piccolo's regenerative abilities.

Cell is fully organic, so he can't really utilize the fonts of infinite energy since they were made specifically for the Androids. Think of it like why a human can't just use electricity to nourish themselves forever without needing to rest or eat ever again.
The visual is a step up from your previous What If's. I really enjoy your stories. 👍🏾

If...
Goku Survived:
Goku is exhausted but so is Raditz so it’d either end in a loss on Goku’s end or a tie.
Goku still dies:
Loss, Piccolo ain’t doing that shit solo.
If reditz survived goku would to either the beam miss vital organs or piccolo didn't charge it up all the way and it only does massive damage not killing him goku and piccolo could probably deal with a heavily damaged reditz if not the other z fighters hunt reditz down and kill him goku and piccolo dead piccolo in hell and goku on,king kais the z fighters all die to nappa and goku beats vegeta the namek saga is much different goku and bulma go to Namek goku most likely gets less training so his power lvl is mosy likely at 70 or 80k they get to namek and die to captain ginyu and the universe gets destroyed by zeno sorry for bad typing I did this really fast

Before I actually watch this: I believe Gohan would've faired a bit better against Cell than normal, not by much.
Having Goku around can make a much bigger difference, if just for the power creep. With some effort, it really could be expanded upon. But for what you were asking? Great Job!

Considering Cell was practically worn out from his bout with Goku, Gohan would've made short work of him without even having to go Super Saiyan 2. Or Goku could've just eaten the bean himself and murdered Cell effortlessly.

Wouldn’t cell starts with gohan since he felt cornered by his exhaustion and the gang up and since he’s intelligent would destroy the most imminent threat and therefore open a VERY different timeline ?
I just realized something, Goku would probably master ssj3 at the buu saga, because of the Zenkai he got from cell “Killing” him, his body would be able to withstand ssj3 much earlier so he would probably invent a ssj3 grade four sort of thing making him significantly stronger than the original

Would you make an analysis video of this part the what if is based off so people could understand what is going on? Some didn’t watch it entirely (me included but I don’t throw hate at it) and as you said, some misunderstand what is going on so an analysis of this may clear out some of the confusion this scene has brought upping the DB fan base

I’ve always thought about this what if and I even asked it to another UA-camr so when I saw this video I clicked instantly
Since gohan doesn't get his power unlocked in the buu saga I feel like the top would have definately gone diferently because gohan was there to alleviate a lot of the stress from goku and vegeta towards the end along with frieza defeating dyspo in the anime as well as kefla in the manga
What if db or dbz Goku mastered his teachers training, involving the self movement (ultra instinct without god ki training), so basically making Goku be more focused, and having far more potential, probably being like kid buu (not sure on him copying instantaneous movement, from seeing it once, but it would be very useful if he could)

One i think goku is smart to give cell a senzu bean cause after he fought cell he knew he could regenerate and he also has frieza cells so he knew he wouldve gotten desperate and blow up the planet and goku knew it

Nothing would change Goku himself said staying in there for longer would not have been training but torture
@@kazeguy8869 They might not get stronger but things would still change. Goku wouldn't be able to save the zfighters losing to cell and they likely would have died. It's also possible Gohan would have tapped into ssj2 again and gotten control.

By the time Goku and Gohan left, Cell already announced Cell Games so nothing changes other than Vegeta getting in the Time Chamber later but nothing still changes after that

I feel as if most people forget that if Goku didn't give Cell the senzu bean, he would've gotten a zenkai boost from his saiyan cells and been even harder to deal with. He did his son a real favor by preventing Cell's healing factor from abusing his saiyan genetics.
Outside healing still gives saiyan's a zenkai. The entire Freiza Saga relied on the saiyan's getting beat up and either healed with senzu beans, healing tanks or dende's healing.
@@travissapienza4930 Late reply, but Senzu beans are basically like magic and just instantly repair your body back to it's peak. Healing tanks and the like just accelerate your natural healing and still give the zenkai boosts by having your body still remember the damage. Senzu beans really don't do that as they just immediately repair and reverse any damage.

giving cell a senzu is absolutely a problem ALONGSIDE misunderstanding his son, you cannot separate these things and excuse one while understanding the problem of the other, the two are intertwined.
Nope not at all. Cell was still weaker than Gohan either way. Gohan not wanting to fight would ALWAYS be the key issue. Cell being very minimally fatigued from fighting Goku doesn't make any difference really.

Goku had a lot of confidence in Gohan and wanted him to have a fair fight. You may not have had that epic SS2 moment as well as that heart warming scene with 16 talking to Gohan if he didn't.
