In the States what these former police officers are doing is illegal and if any of their former comrades are helping them with information it is doubly illegal. If you are furthering the interests of a foreign government you need to be registered as an agent of that foreign government so that the State Department can make sure that you are not harming people's rights in situ. I'm surprised that Australia doesn't have similar laws in place.

This is a very insightful comment. Do not forget that until recently Australia also had in ocuntry an ex-US marine flight trainer educating PRC pilots on how to land military planes. That man has now been charged and is in jail, but he was able to get away with it in Australia in a way that he could not if staying in the States.

If I robbed a bank and then invested that in property, the feds could seize that asset. If I made millions from drugs, then got caught, all my assets could be seized. [assuming its universal to the entire federation] The proceeds of fraud and corruption should no longer be enjoyed a convicted defendant. This is a concept from the doctrine of equity which is used in most common law jurisdictions and Australia is one. A company formed to clean the proceeds of crime would be illegal and once its illegality is proven, an equitable remedy would be to seize its assets and repatriate money back to whom it was stolen. I am sure there are many cases from common law jurisdictions to prove this. You can check All England Law Reports for some. I am a second year law student just in case you are wondering.

“Money doesn’t go where there is conflict” probably one of the most inaccurate statements I’ve heard in a long time. Money thrives in conflict, as matter of fact , it wouldn’t surprise me if money is the root of most conflicts.
If you want to know where our unstoppable property boom has come from, look no further than the content of this video. To think that our successive governments were not in on this knowledge is foolhardy. Our current government and previous governments have actively sought to grease the path for Chinese money to flow into Australia and into our property market, with full knowledge that a percentage of that money is of criminal origin. I don't get it. They have the names of the two directors in China, and even know how to contact them. If the money was taken out of China illegally, how come the cops in China don't just show up at their homes and haul them off to jail, and force them to resign from the company? If the money was not taken out illegally, what are they doing trying to seize the money and "repatriate" it to who knows who? Makes me think that their contact in China isn't really the government of China. It's a corrupt official who is in fact trying to steal the money for himself. The houses may sit empty, but most of them have fake tenants paying 'real' rent each month which is sourced from casino-laundered black money. Once it gets paid as rent, the owner can justifiably operate a property management company and pay taxes to look all legitimate and shit.
Owning so many properties, but leaving them empty, gives an organisation the ability to manipulate the housing and rental prices in an area, a state, or a country. They can withold properties to shorten up supply to force prices up - and they can also release properties to flood the market and drive prices down too. It's a practice known as 'land banking'.
And YES, the same thing goes on in Australia on a GRAND SCALE.

When a foreign nation state bypasses a domestic government as in this case, the purpose is to undermine the local govt's authority and necessity for existance which in turn erodes its power. That's why it's considered really bad practice in most places outside of the US.

On the surface this seems unsavory having Australians act as agents for the CCP. Let's hold our nose for a minute and think about it.
1) The money leaving China was earned legally or illegally however it was illegal to take the money out of China. Those who are taking millions out of China probably have connections to the CCP that allowed them to earn it in the first place and are potentially people of influence. Chinese put up with the CCP because generally their life has improved over the years and greed is their religion. The CCP negatively impacting their pocketbooks and taking away fake freedoms may be the fastest way to political change.
2) The money may be from corrupt CCP officials. Taking away the money incentive to be a part of an authoritarian system will further erode CCP support. Frankly I'm surprised anyone in the CCP is pushing for money to be returned since I think they are all corrupt and are getting their money out too.
3) If I owned a $10 M property in Australia I'd gladly sell it to Chinese citizens for $15M. I'd also gladly cooperate with Chinese government to help pursue the buyers after notifying them of the transaction. In order to claw back the money the property would need to be sold. I'd gladly buy it back for $10M and sell it again to Chinese citizens for $15M. This helps balance out whatever shenanigans China is doing to create trade imbalances.

Moving money from one country without a proper authorisation is against the law. Beside how could they explain the source of funds in millions that they claimed to be their own money at such young age? Any government's treasury finance department does not simply accuse any individual without doing A DUE DILIGENCE and tracing the money trail which leads to MONEY LAUNDERING. Otherwise it would slap any government in the face for any wrong accusation.
Any government has access to banking and all the money transfer from one country to another. Those who worked in those area must have known the loophole and facilitated the money LAUNDERING.
With learning deeper, one will realise why any government would hire the bounty hunters in the respective country to recover the stolen cash.
Any foreign money buying real estate or business must go through gov't approval. The money being used is scrutinised. It passed so it's clean. Also they said it was bought with cash, that was speculation. There is no way they can legally know that.

What exactly constitutes as 'dirty / hot money' according to Chinese authorities though? To us, in the West, the connotation is that the money has been acquired and is being processed according to nefarious or criminal protocols. no problem whatsoever with returning both moneys and unequivocally and internationally identified as criminal individuals back to China, but legit people funnelling their hard-earned legally earned cash off -shore to evade an authoritarian-driven future and prepare for a potential defection to a democratic nation...? Hard call. Would hate to be the bounty hunters doing the Devil's dirty work on this one!

Toxicity from China is spreading in many directions. Not just physical toxins, but also psychological and oppressive.
Here in the US China is selling drywall $16 a sheet cheaper that will offgass formaldehyde so you have to leave your home. It also burns easier, along with their flooring that does the same thing, and they also treat their bamboo clothing with formaldehyde along with other dangerous chemicals so you wonder why you're getting cancerous lesions between your legs or under your arms. I was also told they are using lead paint in childrens toys when regular paint would be cheaper.
but china also banned all the flammable polystyrene building products we have still been using in 2015....but this video is nothing about that.
They(China) have banned the importation of domestic waste....that was coming from us.
That is why our waste management industry is in crisis and having lots of fires.
Now it is getting sent to Malaysia (and previously Thailand until they banned most of it).

in the US everytime you move over $5,000 out of a bank it is tracked, in fact the person at the bank is required to ask you what you are going to do with your $$$$.
Same with Canadian bank laws. Anything over $2000 is automatically flagged and tracked. It's to help reduce Chinese land speculation money laundering rackets that nearly destroyed Vancouver.

What we really need to investigate is those who ARE permitted to take money out of China to invest in Australia. Given the restrictions on taking money out of China, there's a high chance it's actually on behalf of CCP and is military / political strategic purchase.
The CCP would not be chasing the money if they sent it.
I believe we should spend more $$ on fighting cyber crime, rather than war. I believe, wholeheartedly, an entity seeking to damage financial institutions, can cause morw damage, than bombs.

It's a win win for Australia and China. Australia kicks out foreign buying up their property, which can raise inflation. A win for China, because it helps to bring back money to prop up their failing economy, but it doesn't make it moral on either shore. In this case, the Australian court did the right thing.
Now i understand why china does not allow buying bitcoin.
@Obi-Wan Kenobi i know bitcoin very well. I've got lots of crypto. Yes anyone can see the blockchain but theres no names attached to adresses. Everyone can see all bitcoin transactions as its a distributed ledger but theres no identity connected to the transactions or adresses. There are other cryptos like DASH and MONERO that are even more private. If you use bitcoin you can even wrap that transaction in GRIN mimble wimble tecknology to mask your bitcoin transactions. The chinese state allows minning kind of as far as i know but not buying bitcoin. I could be wrong on chinese law.

The program does not mention the important fact that China is a dictatorship and that according to the rules of the CCP it is forbidden to take ANY (amount of) money out of China, ALSO IF IT IS YOUR OWN. So if you'd want to take your own, legally earned money out of The Mainland you too could already be called and treated as a criminal just for that fact alone. Of course really large sums that without doubt come from fraud indeed, still should be called and treated as such indeed and i⁰t probably is a good thing when in such a case China succeeds. Tracing back and then seizing money that was stolen by corrupt members of its own party at least will put a bit of pressure on SOME of the officials to stay within legal and acceptable boundaries with their behaviour. Although I doubt greatly if it will help one iota against the local big shots that are both corrupt and party members. Those are the ones that damage the ordinary folk the most by far - they for instance are the main cause for several dozen million Chinese having lost everything too floods this year! At the same time I wonder how it is now, a few years later. During the last year they have dropped all play acting and stopped even attempting to keep up appearances about their initial promise to guarantee personal freedom in HK. They have installed Draconian punishment for demonstration, illegalised liberty of speech and bound the press to impossible restrictions that make it impossible for them to print the truth about anything. Even being slightly critical might have one in prison for seven years of more. In that light, my guess is the Chinese government now also has taken the Hong Kong financial institutions in a stranglehold and that there no longer is overseas banking without oversight as described was a few years ago still the case.
